I am trying to understand the logic of a snake owner. I'm new! I only have a little over 500HP on my 05 vert.I am able to keep up with traffic, fine. If the announcement would have been same design body wise but 700HP would this change your lust for another 100 HP. I'm sure Valentine must love this war.... :2tu:

I think it is interesting that the marketing of the Vet is in two different Hp and price ranges. They make volume in the lower and develope the HP in the high end. Even some of the Euro cars have two classes I would call "a bridge class for the masses". Why does DC chose to offer only the Viper in this way? It seems even the Lambo's have two groups. A 500HP and a 700HP Viper would be nice with a $30M diff. It would keep it in the market for many more years and produce a profit I would think. JMO.......sandy g.

They didn't for 30 years.

If the Viper goes that long I suppose someday it will be fitted with a optional "economy" package. Until then I'll apprectiate a paraphrased version of the "Henry Ford" attitude - "you can have any option you want, as long as it's a bigazz, gas-guzzlein', high HP, high torque, V10."

I was actually lusting for a completly redesigned car. I don't really care about the power since you can always add as much as you want later. It was the Viper mistique I was hoping they would get back. A car that gen I II and III owners would look at and say "Damn I have to get me one of those".

If it's not considered a halo anymore, then it makes sense to have multiple models. Halo cars don't have multiple models, it kills the car. The Vette is not a Halo car, the Bluedevil, SS or whatever you call it will be. Chevrolet will call it a Vette because of the history of the car, to call it anything else would alienate all their current customers. An optional race package (ACR) or limited packages can be used as upgrades without degrading the standard cars mystique.

This post shows good understanding of brand packaging. Kudos to you for the apparent cerebral activity.

But Ford also only offered black as a color, and we know red is the fastest... especially with white stripes! :D

From my limited exposure the core of Viper owners want: More Power, better braking and less weight until the tires can be smoked turn to turn on their road course of choice. And in doing so leaving all other exotics in our tire smoke. Add to performance bold styling and a aspirated V10 defines the core of the Viper Nation.

If Chevrolet calls the Bluedevil, SS a vet it is than a vet!It is not a Halo car. If it were not for all the vet's the money to make upgraded special models over the years would not be affordable. It is the mass produced vet that makes this HP war worthwhile for GM it's their Special Editions over the years. The Viper stands alone and speaks with authority! It's a privilage to drive one let's rumble!!!!!! :headbang:

ALL OVER
The complaints would be no different. If 600hp didn't light them up, 700hp wouldn't make the car look any better to them.

i disagree, id be ALL over a 700 viper. no matter what BS options it had in it. i can overlook a lot of stuff for 700hp

GTS owners will proably never see that day...it's gonna be nearly impossible to out-due the GTS. :2tu:

The Vette and Viper are COMPLETELY different cars, and are marketed completely differently.

The Corvette is a mass produced high performance Coupe, that has been built in high volume for nearly 55 years. There is usually an option for a higher performance model, at a higher price and much lower production number.

The Viper, on the other hand....has one goal. A crazy ass exclusive super performance car...PERIOD. Either you can afford it, or you can't. I think the ACR is the only real "upgraded" Viper they've made in addition to the normal ones, from the factory.

I think it would ruin the name and image of Viper if they made a watered down version that was mass produced and cheaper.

When you are driving with your Viper buddies, and you both get on it, and your buddy flat out pulls ahead of you, then you will understand our need for more hp.

A minivan also keeps up with traffic.

They should have just bolted an Eaton s/c on it. The Vette SS is going to be s/c..

Why would you add the weight and parasitic drag of a SC just to achieve power numbers this motor can putout NA??????Maybe its cheaper to just slap a charger on it but I would much rather they just pull 700hp out of the NA motor instead...No need for FI to get to those reachable power levels with 8.4 liters at your disposal...It may cost more for the R&D but hey its a Viper..A big nasty NA V10 should always be its legacy from the factory...

Man, I think when new owners get a hold of this '08 and write reviews on this forum, more people will be eager to own one. I know many haved modified their snakes to more than 600, but a 600hp factory warrantee'd, low-mid 11sec car with world class braking and very limited production just excites me! All of those color/stripe/interior/wheel packages, too. We could all design a 1 of 5 car if we wanted. More power, better rear, trans, swinging oil pan and customized options - I think they really stepped up to the plate (for now, at least) :) Lets not forget the new weight/hp ratio is 5.667 (lower than any other car in this class). This car is going to seriously kick ***!

Hey Paul,

What you said ..... that's why I keep my black SRT-10. When me and a couple of my Viper buddies go cruising, no problem "flat out pulling ahead of them"!

Unfortunately, most of them won't even play any more, they say it's hopeless.
