YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THIS - THE NEW VIPER WILL RUN 10\'S IN THE 1/4 MILE

600 hp / new tires / new trans / new rear and even leaving out the speculation
of 200lbs less weight the new viper will run in the 10's 1/4 mile. I also think
many average drivers will be able to do this, not just a few. Most of us know of
RANGER who has a stock C6Z06 running 10.8's on DR'S, the new viper should and
will better this on stock tires. Also I think we are all going to be shocked
when the 0-60 times come out, my guess, under 3.5. :2tu:

Who ever buys the new viper and would like to see what it can do in the 1/4 mile
please shoot me a email, I would love the chance to find out. :D :2tu:

190 views and no one responded.

Probalby because most like me, think your way off.

Love these cars, but no F'ing way 95 hp increase is gonna break a stock viper with stock tires into the 10s..

Now, if you are talking DRs on it, then cool, but I dont consider that stock anymore. As it never came from the factory with DRs.

Jon

PS. Gen 4, far more likely, not the Gen 3.5

It MAY be a possibilty. If Gen 3's are hitting 11.6-11.7's. By dropping 200+ lbs, you can shed a few tenths. Factor in about 90+ hp, you could see at the right track, right temps, right conditions a Viper doing 10.99's. Most important will be how well it is able to hook up. We will all see, very soon.

Maybe with the right driver.

The Ferrari 599 runs 11.3 according to Motortrend. And it weighs 3,750 pds and has 612hp.

So as long as where wildly guessing the new Viper weighing less, having better tires and having more tq than the 599 high 10s seem possible. :2tu:

Hell if I pushed my wife’s Caviler off a cliff a 1/4 mile high I bet it would hit the ground in less then 11 seconds. :D

What changed about the tires? Same crap that is on the current Viper I thought? I think Wanted must be smoking something. :)

Re: YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THIS - THE NEW VIPER WILL RUN 10\'S IN THE 1/4 MILE

C&D tested the Venom 600, with roughly the same power as the new Viper (but with the stock run flat tires) and they managed 0-60 in 3.4, 0-100 in 7.5, and the 1/4 mile in 11.4@ 127MPH, so there is certainly the possibility that with the new grippier PS2 tires that a great driver could shave off a half second in the 1/4 mile. But those are the numbers that I'm expecting for the new Viper from most of the auto magazines.

Ranger is an expert drag racer, and has many (over 100) 1/4 mile runs with two generations of Z06s, plus he speedshifts to get those stellar times.

I'd be happy to see the new Viper accelerate just as well as the $$$ Ferrari 599 and Lamborghini LP640, but if some gifted driver does officially take the new Viper into the high 10s it would be fantastic.

I think we might have to meet in E_town when my car comes in!! :2tu:

I'm ready :2tu:

Guys I'm racing the same tracks as RANGER and have my genII down to 11.51 on
stock tires plus tubes, filters, mopar exhaust. I feel I can better the the run
Ranger had of 10.84 using dr's. Given the chance I feel 10's will be no problem,
the big question to me is where in the 10's. :D Time will tell as I hope to get
a chance to give it go.

TOM

I still say 10's BONE STOCK with STOCK TIRES :D :2tu:

The Ferrari has a sequential automatic transmission that makes shifts faster than a human ever could. Just read an article pertaining to the new M5, the manual was 0.5 seconds slower in the quarter mile than its SMG counterpart. You don't think shift speeds played a role?

If anyone can get a stock 08 into the 10's, I am sure Tom (Wanted) can. I imagine he has already started on a heavy dose of laxatives to get his weight down to give him a performance advantage.

For those who don't know, Tom is already pretty svelt, hence the last comment is made in jest. :nana:

Shifting is key, of course. Will the Gen 3.5(4?) require a shift to 2nd to hit 60mph? If they haven't changed the rear ratio it will.
Getting under 4 sec 0-60 with a shift will require very skilled (if not gifted) driving.

With the RPM band extended to 6400 I assume you can get to 60 in first gear. I think i remember that 60 in the current GenIII is possible.

I think that's wrong... current gen3's need to shift before 60.

Yes, but the US Ferrari doesn't have launch control. And most of time Ferraris (and other cars with paddle shifts) are faster in a straight line with a stick shift then with the paddle shifters. Because you can launch a Manual transmission so much better. :2tu:

close enough...Totally possible with the higher redline

Transmission: 6-speed manual
Final-drive ratio: 3.07:1, limited slip
Gear - Ratio - Mph/1000 rpm - Max speed in gears
I - 2.66 - 9.4 - 56 mph (6000 rpm)
II - 1.78 - 14.1 - 84 mph (6000 rpm)
III - 1.30 - 19.2 - 115 mph (6000 rpm)

0-60 in under 3.5 seconds??? That would be possible how? The Lamborghini Murcielago and the Ford GT are in the 3.9 second range and we all know these have close to the power; Murci 580 HP and FGT is under rated getting around 510 - 550 RWHP which would put it in line with the new Viper since that can result in about 600 HP to the crank. Yes the new Viper is about 250 pounds lighter but I do not see that resulting in a half a second difference in both the quarter mile and 0-60 time. Maybe if we are lucky we will get one of them but I seriously doubt it but again this is just my two cents. :2tu:

Wanted I think you are overestimating the majority's driving skills. You and maybe a couple other guys maybreak 10's but that's about it. And I only think this will be possible at 3250 lbs or lighter.

Re: YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THIS - THE NEW VIPER WILL RUN 10\'S IN THE 1/4 MILE

I don't think it will hit the 10's without drag radials. It has the power, and the gearing won't keep it out of the 10's...but I SERIOUSLY doubt you're going to be able to put all that power to the ground. People lose it pretty easily (even at the drag strip) in the stock SRT already.

There's also the possibility they institute some kind of torque management into the ECU, like they did the with Z06. This hurt the times (and possibly trap speed) of the C6 Z06, it kept Ranger from shifting too hard and also from giving it full throttle on the first two shifts.

The Viper has a very good suspension, but isn't a lot of the weight up front in the car? I think that will hurt its traction in drag racing as well.

DR's and NO OTHER MODS....the new Viper should have no problem hitting 10's, possibly mid 10's, with the right driver(s).

The Viper is nearly 50-50 weight distribution. What makes you think the front end is heavy?

The suspension on the Viper does not provide for rapid weight transfer. There are mant things that can be done to improve the weight transfer, but static weight distribution is not a problem.

Re: YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THIS - THE NEW VIPER WILL RUN 10\'S IN THE 1/4 MILE

Random thoughts on the new 08.

I'll believe the 10's when I see it with a stock 08 Viper. It would take an outstanding driver, drag radials, many runs at a very well prepared drag strip if possible at all - but I'd love to see it. Maybe the new Viper will entice Ranger to trade in his chebby.

On the 0 to 60 in first gear, yes, all SRT-10s with stock gears, and stock tire size - 27.4 inches tall and 6000 rpm capability will run to 60 in first gear. I do it all the time. I just don't get some of these calculations. Here are the numbers: Tires - 27.4 inches tall, diff - 3.07, 1st gear ratio - 2.66, red line rpm - 6000, speed = 60 mph. Spin it to 6400, 0 to 60 all in first gear with no problem.

2007 should be a fun year for car guys.

if the car still comes with the standard 3.07 rear gears then i say no 10's. but if the car gets a 3.42 rear gear like the C6 Z06 has then i would say 10's are a possibility with a good sixty foot time and a sea level density altitude.

Re: YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THIS - THE NEW VIPER WILL RUN 10\'S IN THE 1/4 MILE

If Gen3s with an extra 95hp from the aftermarket are running 10's (which I don't think they are) than the G4 just might do it.

Off the top of my head, the usual magazine road test-or even owner tested - G3 ET gain over the G2 isn't much. What's the factory HP difference between G2 & G3..55hp?

Most magazine tests of the G3 were what..still in the 12's?

But the higher rpm might help, as might the VVT showing its' ability to increase low and top end power.

We'll hope for some nice numbers :)

one of the reasons that gen-3's have slower 1/4 mile times than gen-2's is because their 19" tall rear wheels have made the already overdriven 3.07 rear gears even more overdriven. bottomline is that the viper needs a 3.42 rear gear bone stock from the factory in order to beat the C6 Z06 1/4 time. a bone stock C6 Z06 on the factory stock tires has run a 11.2 1/4 mile time. i don't see the 2008 viper beating that without a 3.42 rear gear.
