I'm continuously amazed at how many people don't know about his past. Even the magazines that know about his reputation still invite him to their events. Yes he was one of the first tuners to build Vipers but if one is a crook shouldn't one not be in business anymore?

Just as you stated, its in his past. Yes he may screwed a couple people over for various reasons, but he cleaned up his act and still puts out some kick *** cars. He went to court over his past transgressions and paid the price either by reimbursing those he screwed or in some other manner. You can't hold someones past against them forever, especially if it didn't even invlove you.

It looks like the magazines and everyone else has forgiven John, maybe the VCA should also?

In any case, this car will probably pull pretty close to the asking price I bet. It is just like any other specialty tuner car i.e. Lingenfelter, Saleen, Roush, etc.

The previous bad press obviously didn't hurt him. He is building a new 20,000SF building to move his shop into and also is partnered with the Lonestar Motorsports Racetrack, so I would assume business is good for him.

if he has honestly changed I would not mind seeing 1 more HONEST tuner added to the list here on the VCA, but im not sure many of the members (mostly the ones who got screwed and were never made whole) would "accept him" he would have a rough time here I would imagine.

True, however I have ever only heard of 3 people getting screwed by him, 2 Viper owners the other was a Vette owner.

We absolutely can. We're not talking a missed spark plug
gap or improperly seated wheel, we're talking about a guy
who purposely *stole* people's money and their car parts
and delivered "built" cars with only a header swap-out. And
during this process he flatly IGNORED questions from club
members (myself included) which means he's not only a thief
and crook, but he's also very inconsiderate to his main
customer base. That's bad business.

It looks like the magazines and everyone else has

Magazines would highlight dessert recipes from Jim Jones
if they thought it would sell copy. And last I heard he hadn't
made full amends to his victims - one of our members was
out almost a half-mil in legal fees which I'd be willing to
bet honest money hasn't been returned yet.

I'm sorry, the man may have made some awesome cars in his
life, but as a business I wouldn't trust him to TT my lawnmower.

Did he steal from you, or just ignored your questions? If the latter, who cares. If he stole from you, then sorry for your loss, but get over it and move on.

According to you, no one deserves to be forgiven if they have satisfied the courts requirements. I for one am a forgiving person, and I can say that knowing that if the same happened to me, I probably would have forgiven John. ***** those people lost their money, but as I brought up on the allley they should have had some paperwork drawn up before dropping their cars off. Its amazing that people will just drop off a $80k car and give a guy $100k without any contracts in place beforehand, if that is what happened.

I agree I do think in time anything can be forgiven but ONLY after he made EACH AND EVERY one of the the people whole, as someone stated above hes doing well now so that should be no problem for him.

I didn't say wipe the slate clean. There was some kind of court action taken and it came to a conclusion. Now if it had happened to me of course I wouldn't just wipe the slate clean. I would go after him just like the other guy did. Hopefully it could be taken care of outside the courts, but if not then I would hope the courts would side with me and I would get my money back. I would have had some type of contract written up that would have outlined the exact timeline that these modifications were to be performed and if not met there would consequences(sp) for failure to meet those deadlines. It would also be treated just like when you do home repairs, a certain amount of money is released at certain stages, so as to not let someone take your money and run. Before the next stage is started verification that the previous stage was completed to my satisfaction would be necessary. Any tuner who is honest and reputable would have no problem signing any such document and would participate in the process. If they wouldn't, then I would be looking for a different tuner to work with.

Now if I lost $100k and was not smart enough to have gone through the steps I listed above and didn't get my money back from John or the courts, then forgiveness might not come so soon. And I certainly wouldn't use him again for his services. But that is not the case as I know it with John. He was sued, went to court and I would assume complied with the courts judgement.

No one has to forgive John except the people who were involved with him. There is no forgiveness to give if you were not involved.

maybe I shouldn't have used the word (wipe the slate clean) but when you stated (if that had happened to me I probably would have fogive John, I took that as wipeing the slate clean. Maybe they had contracts of some sort and had to go to court useing those contracts against John?

NoRice, how wrong. I've been screwed so many times in my life, my epitaph will read "I don't forget, I don't forgive." I never was screwed by Hen, but if I was, he would be on the top of my hit parade if I ever had a terminal illness. Treat me like I treat you. I won't screw you, give me the same respect, don't screw me.

NORice, not trying to give you a bad time, but are you a close relative of John? It's like saying that if Jeffrey Dahmer didn't eat you or a relative than forgive and forget. You were not involved. NONSENSE. Hen mentally and financially cannabalized many on this site. You obviously have led a passive life as once you get screwed to the max, it eats at you mentally, physically and financially. As in 911, NEVER FORGET. And as I stated before, NEVER FORGIVE.
