I don't post much but I just had to tell about my Performance by Joe experience. I have a 97 GTS. The car already had a set of bowl blended heads, stock valve sizes, mild cam, nitrous and the other usual bolt-ons: VEC 2, headers, cat back, rockers. Car ran pretty good NA. Made 520/540 on it's best pull with the intake iced down. Not too long ago I had a Roe installed locally by the same shop that did the other mods prior. The car made 612/600 with a 6.5 pulley and no water ****.

I was hoping for a little more, but it was still faster. Problem was, the car had HUGE holes and bogs. The transition from vacum to boost would bog the car pretty bad as well. My local shop wasn't happy with the VEC and recommended changing to a different tuning solution. I searched around the board and read some of the posts others had made about their experiences with PBJ. I gave Joe a call and he was confident he could fix any issues, as well as improve the power numbers.

I made the 10 hour each way drive to Joe's place. Joe has got to be one of the coolest guys I have ever been around. Fun as hell to hang out with too. Joe got right to work on my car. Installed the water/****, swapped to an 8 pound pulley and started tuning. It is important to note that Joe did a baseline pull on my car before he did anything just to see where he was starting from. Turns out, he had to abort the pull at about 4800 because the A/F started going north of 14 to 1.

Two days later, with the only additions being the swap to the 8lb pulley, water/****, and Joe's tuning, my car made 660/695. With a 75 wet shot it made 816/995! This is all on the 8lb pulley! Not to mention the fact that ALL of the driveability issues are GONE. Drives 100% stock until you put your foot into it.

When it came time to pay the bill I almost s**t. This is the first time EVER, that I was unhappy with a bill because I felt as though I was taking advantage of the guy that was charging ME. I even argued it with Joe. If you are ever in the position like I was (in need of help and not sure what to do) do your self a favor and give Joe a call.

(Joe, if you ever read this...I stand by my statement that your logo is extreme gayness) :D

Joe is definitely da' man. I'm sure he wouldn't object if you wrote him a bigger check or sent him a huge valentine's day card with cash in it.

every tuner appreciates that...

congrats on some stout numbers!!!

Pressured,

Joe is the man!! You made a very good decision by having him work on your car. His attention to detail and his passion for the work he does really shows. I agree, he is a blast to hang out with, I learn something new everytime I talk with him.

I hope to be in St Louis next month to hang out a bit, and check on my car which is in his shop for some upgrades!!

Congrats on the awesome numbers.

I don't have the pleasure of being that close to Joe's shop but I can't say enough good things about the help he has given me over the phone and to top it all off his prices are hard to beat as well! PBJ definitely gets an A+ from me.
Thanks and way to go Joe :2tu:

Yup joe is the man. I won't have any one else work on my Viper besides myself. Haha i agree i always refer to it as Performance By joe because i think of Peanut butter& Jelly when they say PBJ lol
Good numbers especially with the small nitrous shot.

Hey guys I live in STL and I have some bad news. Joe quit working on vipers. He is now a hair dresser. Please don't call him to work on you cars any more.............

Just kidding of course. Anyone that has ever met Joe would get a kick out of the hair dresser part. Joe is one of the busiest guys I know and THE BEST TUNER I have ever met. He understands why things work , not that the book says it should. Because of this he might take a little while to get you in but it is worth it. I am finishing a year long project on my car with Joe and I couldn't be happier. He is not afraid to try new ideas or techniques. I have driven the car five times since the upgrades. To describe the car in one word now,..KILLER. I will post some photos to show you what I mean when completed....soon

PBJ doesn't have a website. I don't think Joe has time to get one set up. He just got his sign in front put up at his new shop, one year after moving there.

We all give him trouble about his "website". That's not a website, its a telephone listing.

Did I read this right, you stayed with the VEC? Did he perhaps mention to you if the problem was in the LTFT or fuel or timing curves....or all of the above?

Yes, I stayed with the Vec. To be honest, I don't know what the problems were in the tune. I do know that he did an awesome job fixing it. :headbang:

Hey guys,
Thanks for the kind words...it means a lot. I am glad you are happy Brian, I just wish we could have taken it to the track while you were here to rip off some 9 second passes. The car felt very strong on my test drive, but the roads were way to cold to let it all hang out. Hopefully you will let me tune your vette and see if there is anything left in it, but I am taking advantage of the $ 5 discounts this next time :D . I hope your better half doesn't mind !!! Oh, by the way, your logo crack really hurt my feelings :(
See ya later and thanks again !!!
Joe

Hey Joe, do you tune Paxton SRT Rams by any chance? Didnt see anything on your website so I thought I'd ask since the thread refers to you. I think I met you at the Topeka V10 Nationals, I had the stock '01 GTS in my avatar.

Dave,
Yes I do. We also make some very cool items for your truck. My friend Justin has stepped up to the plate for the srt truck market and come up a few ideas that are awesome. Give me a buzz at the shop and I can fill you in.
Thanks,
Joe

One of the things that I think makes Joe such a great tuner is his love for cars and making them go fast. He's not a salesman. Although he has a few of his own custom products which are very cool, he's not all about talking you into buying things you don't need. He's more concerned about making sure you get the most performance out of what you already have and/or going fast for the least amount of money. I swear, I think he's talked me OUT of spending more money than he's talked me INTO spending.

When you find someone whose Number 1 Goal is a combination of (a) going fast and (b) customer satisfaction and NOT making maximum profit per product or selling you more crap than you need, you know you've got the right guy in your corner.

Joe is a firm believer in what I call "proper pairing". He doesn't just want to put the biggest cam in a car or the biggest motor, or the biggest blower. He wants to make sure that the cam is the right cam for the blower and the size of the motor, etc. Everything has to work together for proper air flow, air speed, etc. It's all about the right combination.

My car has nothing more than headers, exhaust, rockers and a blower I installed in my buddy's garage (with the water/**** kit). But with the right TUNE on the car, it made 630/675 and went 10.43 @ 137 on pump gas and drag radials. Joe is working with Greg Good on my heads and a few other odds and ends to see if we can put it in the 9's on blower only. Again, it's all about the right combination of the right parts and keeping the customer's goals in mind.

I can't wait for him to finish working some more magic on my GTS.

I'm in inquiring right now with Justin on his adjustable shock package. With my SRT Ram being in NASA Rocky Mountain I'm looking for some tweaks/enhancements for the stock suspension and his adjustable shock/traction packages look promising. Its fun playing around with Vettes, Porsches, and cars of the sort in a 5000 pound truck on a road coarse. Once I get the handling further improved I'll look to increasing/optimizing the power even more.

Can you PM me what kind of services you provide on the Paxton SRT Rams? My biggest disadvantage here in western Kansas is the lack of a Viper related tuner close to me. I can go west to DC Performance or east to you...neither of which is really close. Going to you would at least me not crossing over the Continental Divide :)
