Looking for a nice taken care of gen 1 viper, I live in Ohio so trying to find something "close" but willing to travel for the right car. Have been looking for over a month, but nothing really has jumped at me and said this is a great deal BUY ME!!
This is my dream car and want to make sure what I get will make me happy for years to come. Wife gave me the green light to get one before we started having kids, because I'm sure once that happens it will never happen. Well anyways I'll keep reading the site and hope to have one in my driveway in the next few weeks.

Hello and welcome. There are a lot of helpful people on this site. I just bought mine with their help. You may want to provide some details of what you want in terms of colour, budget, etc.. It will help us send you links to a car you really like.

Enjoy the quest....it is a lot of fun!

I would also consider broadening your search. I just bought a 94 RT/10 in perfect condition with 14k miles on it. I had to get it shipped, so I had to factor that into my price, but I got a good deal, and it still worked out. Remember, there is always negotiating.

When looking at a Gen1, keep in mind that condition and repairs start to become everything. Many items are more expensive, or impossible to get, on a Gen1. Depending on the condition of the Gen1, a $35K Gen1 may be more expensive in the end than a $40K Gen2, like a '98.

I just got done with a redo of a lot of Gen1 parts on my '95. I easily spent an extra $2K on parts for the Gen1 over what the same parts would have cost on a Gen2. I love my car, but there is an extra tax for owning a Gen1, and it will get worse.

Have you checked the classifieds? I have my 93 listed for $35k with chrome 3 spokes and an extra set of 97 5 spokes. Softtop and the 3 piece trunktop. It's in great shape and has had the head gaskets replaced. PM me if you want any additional pictures or have any questions. I love this car and in the end may be fortunate enough to keep it along with my SRT that I am rebuilding.

Rocket 62, those wheels looking GREAT! I personally love the three spokes that were original on the Gen 1's.

Wow!!! That is a nice car!!! And no worries about the expensive gasket issue. Sounds like exactly what you are looking for.

If, you ever consider a Gen III (2003) PM me. Mine has 12K miles, never raced, the only up grade has been a Corsa track exhaust system. Figure I have in mind is $58K however, that's negotiable. I'd even drive it out to you. I can take photos upon request. :cop:

Love to have a gen3 but a gen1 is the only one in my budget. Now if I sold both my Mustangs & motorcycle then I might be close.

The first one you posted I've been in contact with them a few times, then they dropped of the earth. Car has been on ebay for awhile.

The second one I thought I had bought & am still willing to try and make a deal but he doesn't have the soft top for it. Living in Ohio I need a soft top.

The 3rd one sounds like it might have engine mods done to it. But sent them a email to contact them anyways.

The 2nd one has the removable hard top....wouldn't that work?

Yes it would work if I wasn't going to leave the county, but I'd like to take a few weekend trips and if I get stuck somewhere it's raining I'm screwed. I'm going to get a gen1 to enjoy the "wind in my hair" not be bottled up, because it might rain.

A Gen1 is an amazing car, and you can definitely get a great car for under 35k. However you definitely need to be very careful. I paid about $33.5K for my 95 when it had 19k miles on it about 2+ years ago. However, since then, i have spent THOUSANDS making it perfect, modifying and upgrading. I would definitely look to buy one that has had some work done to it, had lots of stuff replaced upgraded, to save you some $$$ if you are on a budget, honestly the cheapest Viper is not going to be the "cheapest". You are better off spending a little more for one that you KNOW has been TOTALLY cared for the right way. preferably that has had the head gaskets done, since that is a guaranteed expense otherwise. Best of luck!

I had a chance a month ago to buy this car, but since it was black I wasn't that interested in it. I met this guy a few years back and He has been very helpful in info I should look for. I have great feeling about his car, but now he has it on ebay. But I think your right, the extra bucks might be worth it in the long run even though it's not the color I want.

^^ That is a nice ride! For under $35k I'd jump on that. If you are garage keeping your Viper (and I hope you are) black looks amazing as long as you keep it clean :D
