Probably the lamest post I've made..

I check the weather on-line last night, looks great for Friday. Great way to kick off our Canuck long weekend.

I waxed my car last night in the garage, dang it looks great.

I wake up in the morning glad in anticipation to drive my Viper to work, the long weekend, Stevie Ray Vaughan CD, I'm all set.

I pull out of my driveway, we're out in the countryside, I wave to one of our neighbours.. what a great way to start a Friday, and get into work early so I can leave early.

A mile or so from home, the motor starts puttering.. exhaust is popping..

Empty. Yep, that little round gauge and the lack of predictability to make it to the next gas station..

So, hanging my head low.. not daring to challenge the ego to ask for help.. leaving my baby on the gravel shoulder.. wander back home on foot, get the truck and lawnmower gas can, avoid the neighbour I just waved to, and then I was late to work.. Yet, then we were all told at work to leave early to kick off the holiday weekend.. so it all worked out ok.

Ever run out of gas?

Just a couple days ago I was heading south through Miami. Uncrowded roads so I was doing some 'spirited' driving. Luckily I happened to glance at the fuel gauge and noticed it was wayyyyyy to the left. Not sure how much further I could have gotten, especially with all my accelerating and decelerating, so I went down to 60, stayed glued in 6th, and had to ignore the 'challenge' to race 2 cute college chicks in their Accord.

When I filled up, the tank took just under 18 gallons, so it was a close call...

The last time I filled up on gas, the needle was dead on empty. I figured I'd be lucky to make it to the gas station. When I filled up, it took 14.20 gallons, so I had a lot more gas than the needle showed. Moral of my story: Gen 1 and 2 gauges ****!

Yeah, my gas tank has like 6 gallons left in it when the gauge reads empty. I took the dash apart in hopes of recalibration, but the gauges are sealed. So I will have to deal with it I guess.

Yes, I too ran out of gas tonight. Luckily it was in my garage warming up the car. :)

I guess the E means empty on these cars, huh?!

I ran out of gas pulling into the gas station. Had one of the attendants help me push it to pump. I pull out my wallet and remembered my credit cards were home...no cash. Nada. Called the wife and she had to drive out with my credit cards. I ate humble pie at home last weekend.

Yesterday, I pulled out of work heading for lunch and happened to glance at the gauge...oops. The needle was below the empty mark!!! Two miles to the nearest station, sweating all the way, thinking I would be walking with gas can shortly. Luckily made it to the station...16.4 gallons to fill up!
I am glad that I didn't run out of gas but what a totally inaccurate gauge. Filled, the Needle rests at least two needle widths beyond full and now I know that dead on empty is about a third of a tank and two needles widths below empty leaves me about 2 gallons in the tank.

Mine has approx 4 gallons when on E. Majority of the time I find myself filling when on E or a little below E which happens once or sometimes twice a week. Yes, mine is driven.

I ran out of gas last Friday night at 12:30 AM on I-270. The worst part is I had just left a gas station 7 miles back because I had to stop and take a leak. My gauge was reading between 1/4 and 1/2 a tank and I had only gone 225 miles on a full tank so I figured I would go drive around some more.

In the past I have typically driven with the needle on zero and still had plenty of gas. After 14,000 miles I had begun to trust my gauge so at first I thought something else had gone wrong.

One thing is for sure, these cars roll for a long time. The car ended up stopping at the sign posting the upcoming exit was 1 mile away. After about 40 minutes the guy from roadside showed up with a gallon of gas. Got the car started and proceeded to the next exit. I thought my buddy was going to have a cow when I got off and got back on 270 and headed back to the original station 10 miles back up the road.

I put 18 gallons at the station, so I was definitely out of gas. My gauge must have just been stuck, since it never read zero.

Once when I was 17 I went outside to go to a friends house but my truck wouldn't start. I'm thinking what are the odds that it would run out of gas right when I shut it off the night before.:dunno: So I'm pulling plugs, checking spark etc. Then my mom came out and said "maybe it's out of gas". I'm thinking yeah whatever mom:irked: , it ran fine when I shut it off yesterday. Well after about a 1/2 hour of tinkering, I figured what the hell and poured a couple gallons in the tank and it fired right up.

To this day I still haven't lived that one down.:owned:

Another time I was taking my parents home from the airport and ran out of gas, but was able to pull right up to a pump. My mom called me one lucking SOB!!!:)

I was at my first track day last year and was out with my instructor turning some laps when he suggested we pull in for lunch. As I approached the pits I noticed my gauge was way below E. I pulled up to the pumps acting cool and never said a word, but I never would have made another lap..lol.

I always thought you were supposed to store cars with full gas tanks to keep rust from forming with gas stabilazer?

Good to see another 69 camaro guy here!

I try to keep my classic cars and the viper with a full gas tank. I read that if you keep the tanks full there is less chanc of rust forming inside. So I fill them up over winter and try to keep them full.

I can't imagine running out of gas in a Viper. The embarassment factor alone would seem incentive enough. Reminds me of the old days when Porche drivers blew their fuel pumps running out of gas because the gas cooled the pump.

The last time I ran out of gas was 3 years ago at Buttonwillow. We were flogging a brand new C6 on loan from GM. After Lunch and Drag racing this against and RT/10, GTS, SRT10, and SRT10 Ram. The car is running low on GAS and I thought I could could get the 7 Miles into town and fill up @ $2 vs $3.50 per gallon at the track. I made it about halfway. When the Vette says empty it really means it. It was embarassing but at least it was a Vette and not a Viper

We had a member who was pulling a Viper to the Texas VOI in the big caravan who did run out of gas...luckily another good samaritan also from our club and also pulling a Viper stopped along and had gas in a can. Timing is everything.
Having a caravan was a good thing and came in handy. Yes, they shall remain nameless to protect the innocent....:D

Mine is approximately a 1/4 tank off
