A buddy of mine told me that in a recent poll on ET (EliseTalk) revealed that an average of 31% of the folks there have taken their Elise or Exige to a track event (or autocross). Even with as many of Elises that I see at the track I find that number hard to believe.

So I was wondering what percentage of Viper owners have taken their Vipers to a track event or an autocross?:drive: Honestly my guess is under 5%. Not that not tracking your car is a bad thing. :D

I did an autocross event and a road race event (Pueblo, CO) when I had mine. Of course I did some 1/4 mile runs.

It's probably just over 10% for VCA members; from VOI to club events, they have plenty of opportunity to do so. For total ownership (non VCA membership) it's probably well under 5% as you suggested.

10% sounds right for the New England Members. Auto-Cross, Drag Racing, VOI Sponsored Events, Viperdays (not very close for New England/ mid-Ohio).

At the events I go to, all road courses, there are almost no other
Vipers. If I see one other Viper, Gen1/2/3, I'm pretty lucky. I always see a lot of the Lotus cars at the events. I'm guessing that most Viper owners don't know how cheap, fun, and safe a DE event can be. Once you learn to handle the car, it is an absolute blast.

Here is California I would guess over 1/3 track their cars. Between Viperdays, Drag days, autocross, VOI's, most everybody has the opportunity to get their cars on the track.
For those that regularly come to events it may be even higher.

If you count those that have been on parade laps etc add some more.

I would love to buy one with a few miles on it over 10 or 20,000 and with a few dings already and use it as a track car. It looks like a ton of fun. Or even pick up a cheap Z06 for the track, you can probably find a descent track car for like 25g or even less. Viper would be more fun though.

Actually I wax my Viper also. It helps when it's time to WD40 off the rubber marks.

I did about 30 trackdays (road racing) with my '94 RT/10. But I became faster and faster and took more risk on the track. I don't have the money to just buy a new one when I would crash it, so these days I do trackdays with a track prepped BMW M3 e36.
