Today my '05 stopped allowing me to shift into reverse. I know on the T56 there is a reverse lock out solenoid, but I am wondering what the probability the problem is A. The solenoid, B. The Engine controller or C. The transmission itself.

Oh by the way, the car went into the shop yesterday to get an oil change, and immediatly afterward I looked under the hood and saw that the 'Tech' had left the oil filler cap off.

Not too attentive I guess, but it makes me wonder about using them to fix the tranny.

If it's the solenoid, I just happen to have one in my garage (as one does), in fact I have a complete T56, but the gearing is wrong for the Viper.

Regards,

No, the transmission seems to be working just fine other than not going into reverse.

When attempting to put in in reverse, you cannot move the lever to the right that far, therefore there is no movement to the back either. All other gears work just fine, and the tranny isn't noisy or rough.

Thanks for your ideas,

sounds like a connection to me. All the solenoid does is GRND when vehicle speed is under 10mph... So you can splice into that two-wire line and ground to chassis if you want to test it. Or remove the solenoid and test on a bench... But I wired a manual switch into mine due to a gremelin in the electrical system that wouldn't let me engage reverse. Works like a champ.

Good luck!!!

TRy putting it in reverse with the engine off. If you can, then the solenoid isn't letting you do so with the key on. Kepp it in reverse and turn it on. If you can reverse, you are just down to problem B.

Mine has to completely stopped to shift in reverse. I see no need fro such a system as I have owned over 60 cars and none of them had this stupid system. Even if I am parking the car and it is moving forward less than 1 mph it still locks me out of reverse. When I get the chance it will be disconnected as I never use 5th or 6th anyway as you can't go over 80 mph here in Ct.

After my mopar mods, my Viper Tech and I found out the down stream O2 sensors and the reverse lock out are on the same electric circuit. Blew a fuse. May want to check fuses also.
