Don't forget to advertise somthing unique about your car that makes it different from all the others for sale.

If your car is the same as all the others offer a car check to show it has no serious accidents. That would help.

First of all every Viper is Special. With that said, they are right. I just paid 32K for a 98 Red R/T 10 4 Weeks ago. Has 30k miles with a few chips. A computer and 3.73 gear upgrade done at Fitzgearld Dodge where the guy bought it. I am the third owner. At this price I can done some mods like full exhaust and filters with smooth tubes and not have a ton of money in it. The seller did not bat a eye when I offered him 32k. I know the guy very well and the history of the car. He ia local. Hope this gives you an idea of the market today. I am in western New York.

For reference, I sold my 2001 RT/10, Sapphire and Black Interior, both tops in good shape last Octover for 45K. It had the normal side sill damage from rocks and the front facia had a few fairly good scrapes (hit a big dip in Ohio construction area - I was sick). Steering wheel had a rip in it (previous owner) and one wheel was curbed (again, previous owner). Only 9,000 miles. I thought it needed about 3-4K to put it back to perfect..... Rad and drove perfect and was well taken care of.

I also just sold an 05 Coperhead that I was told would fetch no more than 64K. I got 68K sight unseen and it was a 900 mile perfect car.

Good Luck,

John

About a year ago I spoke with a guy (some type of former wrestler) that had a 98 silver with black interior GTS. It had only 10K miles and he said he'd take 39K for it because he wanted to get rid of it. Now if only I had the extra $$$ to get it at the time. :(

Honestly red is the most common viper. Example...look at the price difference between a 1997 Blue w/ White GTS and a Red 1997 GTS, and you have about $10,000.00 price difference when keeping all other factors exactly the same and that is reality. Red is just too easy to come by. low $40's for your car will be tops when there are other deals to be had out there. Best of luck.

Its funny your having trouble selling, because Im having trouble buying. Looks like most cars Im going to have to get on a plane to check out. If your car was a hard top Id be all over it. Im about 30 min south of you. (Trumbull)

You're not supposed to sell your Viper unless replacing it with a Ferrari.

considering the cost involved in maintaining a ferrari, i am not so sure this would be a move up. didnt i read somewhere that even simple maintenance on a TR for instance is very expensive?

>>Im about 30 min south of you
that is close. Least I know Viper buyers exist in CT. I was loosing hope.

>>If your car was a hard top Id be all over it.

Well, aren't removable hardtops like $3500? That gives you the best of the GTS and the RT/10! :)

Not sure how quiet an RT/10 is with a removable hardtop vs. a GTS if that is your main concern. Then again since when is the interior of any Viper quiet?

You may like the hatchback or other reasons for the GTS. Well, good luck in your GTS search.

Funny how everyone is saying red is the most common which affects price, yet I hardly see any red Vipers for sale compared to other colors. I know they make more red Vipers so certainly the supply is more. Maybe red Viper owners just aren't as willing to give them up during the summer months. Nothing like a bright red sports car in the summer!

Anyway. Time to change my price on Autotrader and the VCA classifieds.

I really prefer the look of the hatch compared to the flat back of the RT/10. An open top is really tempting though, are you located in Norwalk or Brookfield?

The stock market is in disarray due to all the sub prime problems, etc. even though companies are reporting strong results. Until this mess gets straightened out, the housing market as well as the toy market will suffer. If you absolutely do not have to sell right away, it may be better to wait a little while. Good luck!

Not to add fuel to the fire, but I just got my '01 GTS with 28K in pristine condition for $7K less than what you're asking.

I forgot to update my profile. I lived in Norwalk & then moved to Brookfield. I just updated my profile to Bkfld.

>I believe 39K is about right.
>>Agreed. Anyone know of a FGT for sale cheap?

Your opinion lost merit once you said you wanted a Ford GT. well at least you didn't say Corvette. :)

I don't see any red Vipers for sale at ~20k miles in the Northeast for less than $43,000 and only a few under 40k nationwide and those have >20,000 miles.

Let's assume I had only 10,000 miles which is also 10,000 miles less than my 20k miles. You're telling me I'd get $53,000 for it which is $10,000 more than the $43,000 I'm now asking? That's $1/mile depreciation. At that rate if my car had 30,000 miles it would only be worth $33,000. That's not possible.

Yeah I realize it's not a linear curve, but still, I don't think any 2001 Viper in excellent condition should sell for less than 40-43k with up to 25,000 miles.

>> If you absolutely do not have to sell right away, it may be better to wait a little while. Good luck!

Yeah, that is still an option. Might be selling my house instead. I'm not that desperate to sell.

I don't get it. Doesn't everyone want a FGT? Does anyone want a Corvette (at least those of us without windbreakers and hairpieces?)

You would have to agree that your price is too high or your car would have sold, assuming that there are no other isses with the vehicle. Mileage is extremely important to the typical finicky Viper buyer. There are a lot of Red RT/10s that were made and that makes it more difficult for you.

From the research that I have done I think that the market is down right now. I just bought a 94 black Rt/10 3 wks ago with 15k miles on it for 25k. I couldn't pass it up. I think I did ok.

Viper market is greatly affected by mileage and color. Everybody wants cars with 10,000 or under. Cars with over 10k are very hard to sell, nobody wants them. People also like the rarer colors like Graphite, Steel Gray or Sapphire. Atleast this is what I have found. When I was looking the low mile Graphite and Sapphire cars went fast and for top dollar. You had to act quick if it was a nice car. Red cars were made just about every year except 96. Odd thing is there is a lot of Blue And White cars but they are still going for good money with nice ones in the 50's on up. :dunno:

If you really don't need the money ASAP, I would just sit on it. I had my Firebird Formula on Autotrader for almost 2 years and I finally endded up getting what I wanted for it. I payed 15k for it in 03, with only 29,000 miles on the clock, drove it till 07 with 59,000 miles on it and I got $12,000 out of it. So basically I was only out about $3,000 which is awesome. I had plenty of people offering me 10 and 11 grand but I just kept refusing. Sooner or later someone who wants it bad enough will come around with the cash.

I spent half a day driving a Ford GT, and I don't know about on the track, but on city/country roads, it kinda sucked.

The car is superchargd and makes all its power on the supercharger. It's as smooth as a vacuum cleaner in its power delivery, and it make it all up high. In fact up until you pass the middle part of the tach, the motor feels like a friggin luxury car, all smooth and buttery, lame.

And then the ride, don't get me started! Is there a skateboard in your garage? Go to the top of the nearest hilly street, sit on your skateboard, and go on down the hill. That is the exact ride of the Ford GT. Every bump and ripple in road translates directly to your spine, and not in a pleasing manner!

I was sooo excited to drive the GT, it looks like a million bucks and like it just came off of Le Mans. But other than the looks, I came away thinking that I would never buy that car.

And I think it shows in that there are many many for sale. For a car that had such limited production, there's plenty around. While they may not be losing their value, they certainly aren't appreciating, and I don't think they will at least in the near future.

If you ever think about buying a Ford GT make sure you spend some real good time in the cockpit before blowing $150k large.

I bought a 2000 GTS with stripes and fewer than 12k miles on it for 45k, less than a month ago. A GTS is FAR more desirable than an RT10. Your RT10 is worth 35k or maybe slightly more. You will never sell it for over 40k. If that ****** you off, your alternative is to keep it and say the hell with the market. I have an '82 vette with low miles and went through a similar experience. They were offering less money than a set of wheels and tires go for on a Viper, so I kept it. Sometimes, it is not worth giving your car away if the market is out to rob you.

I agree he's overpriced, but 35k for a 2001 (ABS) viper is a bit low. I'd price it firm at 39,900.

I bought a 99 rt with less than 6k miles for 44k a month ago, however it was black/black which seems to be the most desireable color for RTs.

Typo on my part. It's 20k miles not 29k. 0 and 9 are right next to each other on the keyboard.

Well, sounds like I should at least get $43,000. Those recommending $39,000 are crazy even if I was at 29k miles. I see very few 2001 Vipers under $40,000. I'm in Fairfield county where everything is jacked up (Greenwich, Stamford, etc).

Out of the twelve 2001 RT/10 in the VCA classifieds mine is the 2nd lowest: http://classifieds.viperclub.org/showcat.php?cat=31

Yeah, the housing market is indeed soft so maybe it is affecting luxury cars. Guess i'll try lowering it to $43,000.

I'll miss the Viper, but I'm sure one day I'll get another.

43 is a good asking price, but you might want to consider any offers above 40. My 99 black rt with 5.3k miles cost me 44k. The desireablity between a 99 and a 2001 is a wash IMO, depends on what the buyer is interested in (ABS, or forged pistons). That just leaves the mileage and the color, and I saw a TON of higher milage red and gray vipers before I found a all black one.

Beside the price that you could lower, the competition is very tough for Vipers these days.
There are a lot of Vipers on sales and there are many other cars cheaper and better on the market.

I just bougth an 06 coupe. The market is flooded with 06 coupe. The car lost $30000 in a year !!!

There were two reasons why I bought it: The price looked faire to me and I love the VCA activities. Since a week I understand why the 06 Coupes are on the market so quickly ... **** this Viper is HOT. Without A/C: outside temps: 70F Inside air temps: 110F Airbox's temperature under the hood : 160F !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try to sell your viper in Canada. Prices are much higher here.
You could easily get $50000-$55000 for your Viper.

Some web sites, the sites are in french but with some help you could advertise your car. No need to translate your add to French

www.lespac.com (Very cheap and working great)

www.hebdo.net (Expensive site same owner as autotraders)

This is a depressing thread.
The only people buying Vipers are previous owners who will only offer lowball prices in the hopes you are desperate to sell. Great.

Actually I think it's funny. ViperCT2001 only bought his car because he was jealous of the convertible top on my old Miata. Then I upgraded to a turbo Miata, and now he's selling his car because he knows I'm still faster in twisties. :)

Just kidding ... sorry to see your car go, ViperCT2001. Sure had plenty of adventures in that beast! Use some of the money for go-fast upgrades to the 3000GT.

PS - betcha didn't know I can read your posts here!

I listed my red 2001 Dodge Viper 29k miles back in Oct 2006 on ebay, VCA classifies, and Autotrader. I had it listed for $52,000. No bites. I figured it was because I'm in CT where winter was approaching and I have a convertible.

Then I waited till January and again relisted on eBay and Autotrader and one other site. I reduced it to $49,000. Still no dice.

I then waited till Spring and listed it on Cars.com and Autotrader. I had one interested party, but he was low-balling worse than eBayers at $39,000. No thanks!

So now I'm trying Autotrader again as well as the VCA classifieds here: http://classifieds.viperclub.org/showproduct.php?product=367

It's not approved yet, so you can also check out my Autotrader ad

My question is, why the heck is the Viper so hard to sell? Is it because people search online only using a 25-mile radius and my CT town (Brookfield) isn't near any major cities? I doubt that is the case. I just don't get it.

Yhis is a beautiful car and I "get it" that there are less buyers of an exotic, but it shouldn't take months to sell, should it?

Any advice where else to list it? and is $49,000 asking too much? Personally I still think it's worth more than that, but I need the money.

Not sure if it is a glitch here in the classifieds, but I responded to your ad and one other ad here and I got a response back of SOLD??
