Wow.. just wow.. well you guys almost lost another viper member the other morning..

I was playing with the car a little bit ....:eater:

came up on a stop sign at about 65mph "or so"....

Jumped on the breaks pretty hard.... (non ABS car so it wasn't that hard. )

Heard a loud "BANG"... and then a fricken ton of white smoke came out of the front right wheel well!!! :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:

at first I thought it was a tire and then I got back on the brakes.... PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE MOTHER #$*%#^ @ FLOOR.

Probably the most scarred I have ever been in a car..

mind you at this point I am abut 20 feet from a stop sign.. cross traffic has NO stop sign and their speed limit is 55 mph !!!! :omg:

GRABBED A HANDFULL OF THE E-BRAKE BUT BY THIS TIME I WAS ALREADY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION!!!

Trees on both side so I had no idea if cars were coming either way... I looked in the rearview once I had crossed the intersection too see two large pickup trucks going opposite directions rather fast!!!

one second later I would have most certainly been nailed...

Got the car home to find a blown STAINLESS line on the right front !!!!

Hey john b.. cut a guy a good deal from all that free advertising earlier this year :drive:

You are one lucky man!

Usually, cars have two (!) brake circuits, so when one circuit fails at least the car can be braked with the remaining circiut...what´s up here?

Holy Shiza! :omg:

Big man upstairs was looking out for you, man. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. You almost got that shiney new ipod we got you all scratched up. ;)

Makes me want to inspect my stainless lines. Anyone here more tech saavy than I like to chime in on how to check for something like that?

Yikes. Glad to hear things worked out. I was going to check to see if you were up for the Backyard Burgers show again this Friday, but I'm guessing not........

Isnt that one of the issues with stainless lines? That you have no warning re: them failing? I thought that with rubber lines the loss of pressure isnt as complete.

wow, Glad your OK. I guess that's the other crappy side of the weak rear breaks. OK so they wont lock up and spin you but with the system split font/back when the front goes you have nothing of any use left.

Every such failure I've experienced lowered the pedal but it didn't go to the floor and there was some stopping power still available. Such is the nature of tandem master cylinders.

Glad to hear that you are ok!

If you get a chance, check the other side to see if there was enough brake line for your suspension travel & turning.

Is it possible that someone in the past has removed the o-ring and spring in the proportioning valve that separates the two circuits, i seem to recall this was a mod that was discussed a while back to improve rear bias.
