I have a Valentine 1 with the remote display.

Where do you guys put the actual V1 at? I'll have the display above the steering wheel.

Thanks,
Steve

I use the sunvisor clip and hang it on the sunvisor. Radar detectors are not illegal here, so it's no big deal. I use the concealed display as well and think it is a great thing to have.

I use the suction cup mount and put the unit above the rear-view mirror for the best range fore and aft. I use the remote display (on top of the steering column) so the visible alerts aren't visible outside the car with the top off. I've mounted it this way in both Vipers for over 10 years, and mount it the same way in my other vehicles.

What prevents it from "walking away" when you park the car without the top?

Simple, I pull it out of the mount (leaving the suction cups and mount attached to the windshield), and put it in the trunk. As I have the display mounted with Velcro on the steering column, if I feel particularly paranoid, I'll also pull it off and throw it in the trunk and lock the glove compartment.

I went a slightly different route, but used the location above the mirror in my Cobra and Excursion.

The unit came with a box that you can mount, then run a phone line cord from. I mounted the box under the dash, then routed a phone line extension with the female "box" end emblem taped to the very top of the windshield. I also made a very short pigtail of phone line that goes between the V1 and this extension. When I pull the suction cup mount off the windshield, I only need to unplug the little pigtail and leave it connected to the V1. All that remains is an un-noticeable little box.

(I did go a bit further and installed a power top switch (my car's a coupe) and use that as the mute for the V1)

You can buy the phone extensions at Wal-Mart or Radio Shack. The ones I got where white so I sprayed them black so that they are not noticeable.

Here's the V1...

Here's where the display went in the Cobra.
