I am sure I read a post about this before, but I was unable to find it.....my drivers side window is not dropping when you open and close the door, and at one point I was unable to open the window at all. Is there someone that has had this issue repaired and can tell me what was wrong with it....since viper techs are few and far between anymore. Local tech just quit to work at a nursing home:omg:

Make sure the window is all the way up.
Very true - if down even a touch it will not retract on closing. And if it is, then perhaps there is some sort of sensor that detects when it is (or isn't) all the way up so that it will properly activate. My only problem is that the driver's side occasionally goes up outside the track at the top. Not all the time, but every once in a while...

I am having the same exact problem. Maybe it is just the VCA editions ;)...

I think I have narrowed it down to the BCM (body control module). It is just the drivers side and once I pull the handle to open the door it works fine for a few seconds then stops again. I am taking it in soon for service and I will let you know what it was...

There is a regulator in the door. Mine went bad a couple of weeks after the car was delivered in May, 2006. Same symptoms. It's been fine since. I checked the manufacture date on the original part. It was 2004. I checked the date on the replacement OEM part. It was 2004. They must have purchaed a large number of these parts and are probably still using it for the 2008 since the windows/doors have not changed. Since there have been a number of posts on this subject, one or more lots must have been bad. Make sure the tech is very careful when taking off the door panel. It is a bit difficult to do because of the way it is attached at the top.

This sounds really close to the problem that I'm having with my window. It certainly doesn't always roll down when I open/close the door. I'm curious if any of you have your window not rolling up into the weather stripping groove? Mine rolls up outside and on a few occasions the window has slammed into my car's roof. Dealer has no clue how to fix it and originally accused me of shutting my door incorrectly.

Thanks!

Went to dealer this morning....they copped an attitude, we went our separate ways.....bottom line is my window still doesn't work. I am beginning to see why Vipers should be left in a very primitive state, Dodge ***** at anything more advanced. I find the fact that there are virtually no dealers within 50 miles probably more that have a qualified Viper Mechanic ridiculous. And even more ridiculous is the attitude of the dealers that you didn't buy from....give me a break, they sold one in the last two years:curse:

I have the same problem with my '06 coupe. The window does not go down slightly so that when I close the door the top of the glass hits the paint above the door. I took it in shortly after I bought it and they replaced the entire window mechanism. It seemed to solve the problem but now it is doing it again on occasion. The car is going in on Thursday. I told them to research this before I get there since it seems to be a common problem. I am concerned about damage to the paint above the door. I have been purposely lowering the window slightly before I shut the door, but what a PITA.
I will let you know what my dealer has to say.

P.S. I also have a problem with the deck lid not unlatching completely with the key fob so that I have to use the key to get it open. I know this it also a common problem. My dealer tried to fix that also but it still does it.

Those are the exact same problems I'm having. They absolutely refuse to even look at the window anymore because they can't seem to fix it. They said it's a hand built car, you can't expect it to be perfect.

Bob, I had a similar problem at delivery, the window would move but had a bad wind noise and noticed the top of the glass had red paint on it. I took it to Dan @ DC and he made some adjustments. He told me that there are problems on the coupe's with some electrical component, but in the end he just needed to adjust the window. Check w/Dan or Mark @ Woodhouse, seems like they've all know what the non-window movement issue is and how to correct.

Same problem, there was a post (in the early summer?) detailing how to correct this yourself. I know "ViperX" had a good post in that thread on how to fix. Mike

Sorry to hear about your luck at the local Dodge Dealer. The only place that I know of close that has a good tech is Barbera Dodge near Philly on the schukill.

Also, I will trade you my old yellow gen I which does not have that problem. :2tu:

Here's one idea.(If you haven't done this already)
Maybe call Woodhouse and see if they have had any Vipers with the same problem and ask what they did to solve it. They might be able to give you something that you can use for a dealership near you.
Might work-might not but worth a try to get your window fixed. Good luck!

Already spoke with Mark from Woodhouse, and he was fairly certain that it was a BCM (Body Control Module), the problem is finding a competent person in the area to fix it... I tried to get Bill to come and and get it so Mark could fix it, but he said he would only do that for people he likes:omg:

This must be a common problem. I have the window problem and the deck lid problem too. I just thought it was me with the decklid....

I am STILL after 3 MONTHS waiting for Dodge to send some reps down from the plant to fix my stress cracked windshield and seal. Mark from Woodhouse has been trying to get these guys down to Maryland, but they keep stalling because of all the problems they are having with the 2008's. THIS *****!!!!!!!:dunno:

Rob, that bites...everyone that has a problem with that stupid seal should have it replaced with the new design. I think since service from the dealers **** so bad, Dodge should send a couple of experienced people to the tri state area with a shopping list of things to correct and a van load of parts. We could all meet at one location and they can make things right...the way they should have been in the first place. Don't get me wrong, my beef is with the dealers, the SRT group has been super to me. After my experience with the folks from SRT (with a little help from Bill P and Mark), I will always have an SRT product in my garage.

I just returned from the dealer. Of course we tried over and over to get the window to malfunction and it wouldn't do it. The service advisor suggested that it might have something to do with the memory system and that certain things might cause it to have to re-learn. One possibility was operating the window while the door was open (which I seldom do). We tried this several times as well but the window worked perfectly every time. I left there with what seemed to be a perfectly normal operating window with instructions to monitor it and report under what circumstances the malfunction occurs. We'll see what happens. At least there is a record that it has been addressed twice now in case a warranty issue arises in the future.

The deck lid stoppers and latch were adjusted and it seemed to be unlatching every time with the key fob. I'll see how long that lasts as well.

Anyone else get a different take from their dealer?

I spoke to some engineers from SRT yesterday about some of the problems with my car. One thing that came up was the rear hatch. They said that it was the nature of the beast and nothing could be done to help it unlatch the first time when the button was pressed. He also said that they fixed this problem on the 08's, BUT no way to retrofit it to the 06's:( .

ROB

PS they are coming in the last week of October to fix my roof header seal!!!!!!:2tu:

Sweet, have them bring a BCM for my window and they can fix two cars at once....make the trip worth while:D
By the way, the roof seal job will take most of the day...and they won't want you to watch

This is getting out of hand....I made an appt at a dealer that just lost their Viper tech to another job, but they said the Service Manager would personally work on the car, as he had previous experience with Vipers. I arrived at 10:00 as scheduled, and told them who I was and handed the keys to the service writer who said he would give them to the service manager. I was hanging around outside in view of my car talking with some other patrons and after about a half hour I heard someone say that the service manager was at the owners house working on his boat. I went inside and questioned the guy at the counter about when he was going to be back, and he said he didnt know but they were going to have somebody else take a look at my car. I politely asked for my keys back and left. Had they told me from the beginning I would have been OK with it (maybe), but I don't appreciate being lied to.

Rob, who do you guys take your cars to in the Maryland area....

You could bring it to Keene Dodge in Jarretsville, MD. They have a great Viper Tech and service manager (Tony).

YEAH!!!!! They finally fixed my cracked windshield. The header seal will be in a few weeks. They tracked the power window problem to a wire harness that was bad. They ordered another one and I should pick it up tomorrow night. I will keep you posted if this was the problem.

Carmen,
Let me know when you are coming down. I only live about 15 minutes from Keene.

It's the service departments that make owning a Viper a nightmare. I had an appointment to take mine if for the Clutch slipping. I told them prior to driving 45 minutes that it had a Paxton SC on it and I wanted to know if it would be covered. They said they would have to look at it. They asked how many miles on the car, I told them 2200. He said bring it down.

So I get there and drop it off and the guy said it may be a day or so before they look at it, I'm like that's fine. When it's ready don't expect me to be there that day, depends what's going on.

So I get a call the next day wth the service manager asking me to agree to pay $400 for their Viper Tech to inspect the clutch incase it's not covered by warranty. They want to drop the tranny first and then call dodge to see if they want to cover it? I told him there is no chance I am paying them 1 penny to drop the transmission unless a performance shop was doing it. Told them I would be there to pick it up. I didn't say anything at the time, but why couldn't they have made the call first to see what they would say? Why? Because they weren't going to cover it and wanted me to pay for a new clutch.

Frustrating thing is that I told them up front about the Paxton, they could have told me they wanted to charge me to look at it before I drove for 1.5 hours (round trip) then had to do it again to pick the car up.

I absolutely love my Viper but owning it has been a nightmare. Why do I have to argue with every Dodge Dealer about fixing my car.

Took car in for the Window. They said not covered.. had to argue
Took car in for exhaust paint flaking. They said not covered.. had to argue
Took car in for Hot AC. They said not covered.. said it was the Paxton
Took back in for Window 3rd time. They accused me of doing.. had to argue
Took car in for clutch. They wouldn't even look at it.

So I'm sitting on a 06 Viper Coupe with a whopping 2200 miles that's Window is still messed up, paint keeps flaking off, AC blows hot when it's warm outside and clutch is slipping... Best part it, besides this last time for the clutch, it's been in the shop for over 60 days total. :(
