Anyone able to purchase 2008 OEM hood for thier 2003-2006 Viper SRT 10? If so, forward cost and additional part #s needed for a complete swap. Also, will the air intake need to be changed? If so, forward those part #s if its a possibility to change. I dont like the repilica hoods on the aftermarket now, want the OEM real deal!:2tu:

It was back in January when I had it on the car so I don't have all details. I just ordered one from Jon at www.partsrack.com so I should have one on next week to check again.

I spoke with the parts guy at my dealer about ordering an '08 hood. He said that the computer indicated that they were not yet available and 7 were on order. The dealer price is $1,500 and there would be no shipping charge. I would guess that shipping charges would be significant if it were ordered from someone other than a dealer so keep that in mind when pricing this item.

I wanted to do the '08 hood swap as well. But I was told there would be "blending" issues in painting it to match my car well. Will I need to blend the adjacent panels? How much should painting the hood cost? Also, JonB told me the hoods he had were $3,000. The Dodge dealer said they were $8,000!!!! I thought that was really high but they said that it was Dodge's way of stopping people from doing just what we are discussing. What's the real answer? Is it really only $1,500 from the dealers & no shipping costs? That would be pretty cool. Does anyone know for CERTAIN that it is a bolt on part (i.e. does not need any mods)? I'm VERY interested.

RE: Bob K - Do you have a part #? When did they say they would be available?

Update: Just ordered for partsrack .com for $1395.00 plus 150.00 shipping. Jon tried new 08 oem hood on 2006 and it fit perfectly. My red paint should match fine as my car is almost new condition, always covered in garage. Cant wait to see the real deal on my car soon!:D :2tu:

Is that $1395 with the factory paint or is it primed ready for paint?

Do any of you know much about painting? What about "blending" issues? Should I be able to have a hood painted and the hood only? I have the Viper Crystal Slate (it has a LOT of flake in it). Does the metallic cause more of a problem than the flat? Does it help me that the car is basically brand new? I really want to get the new hood but I don't want to paint half the car & I don't want a hood that does not match the car. Any educated answers for me? Thanks!

There are at least a couple other things you will need to buy besides the hood itself: The hood insulator pad and the screens/grills that go in the vent openings. Check with JonB at PartsRack...

I ordered the hood from Jon a few days ago. As mentioned the screens and the pad are extra. Screens will be ready soon but the pad will be a month or so. Since I have a extra 2006 pad we are going to try and cut to fit or run without the pad for a while. I run the Viper without the pad for a month or so during the hot weather and no problems.

My painter believes the hood he paints will match with out blending. If it doesn't match I told him to do what ever is necessary. I know the painter personally and he will do a great job for a reasonable price.

Not for sure but I may have screens painted blue the color of my Viper.

The hood should be here the end of next week and painting and installation will start in a day or two after I receive the hood. The first thing is to see if their is any fitting issues. I do have a Paxton SC but hood should fit fine-if not we will the make the necessary changes.

Will keep you posted.

If that is your BW viper in the pic above, please let us know how the stripes work out. We tried to design our aftermarket hood to work with 06 type wide stripes and it would not work. The 08 stripes are narrowed for a reason so I suspect there may be some issues. Hopefully it works out OK for you.

Please let us know.

Thanks.

In order to line up with the wide 2006 strips on my Blue/Silver Coupe bumper area-I will probably have to paint over the corners of a couple of the louvers on the 2008 hood. I should have the hood and grills by next Thursday & painted by the end of the next week. Haven't decided yet which color to paint the grills.

Ill just have to wait and see what is going to have to be done. Will post pics and info.

The hood comes unpainted. You'd have to take it to a body shop to paint it. They'll get the factory paint from Dodge or whoever to match it. No different then if your car was in a wreck, or if someone came by and keyed it just on the hood. Would you leave it all messed up because you were worried about 'blending'?

No you take it to the body shop and they paint it. Done.

What do you mean it 'would not work'?

Also, your business and link to your website should be in your signature and in your public profile, and it is neither. I would like to go to your website right now but have no clue where it is....

I know from one person who has tried it and the stripe does not fall on the center scoop section correctly. They were having a heck of a time trying to get it to look right. If someone can figure it out, that's great.

The website is www.trunktop.citymaker.com . My signature will be changed shortly.
