97 Stock B\W 20k miles, looks to be in good condition went for $41k. I think this price range is right and it only had 2 bidders. As the 10 year mark hits the B\W vipers I think we will start seeing the ones that sell go at the low $40k prices and the introduction of some high $30k prices instead of the typical $50k\high $40k.

No way. Something is wrong with that car, no way a true clean B/W with 20K on it goes for only 41K. If it did, the seller is an idiot.
Good luck waiting for one in the high 30's. Maybe a salvage. It will be a long wait.

More to that story.

One owner 96 B/W GTS with 32,000 miles went for $41,100 on Monday. Car was clean and had rollbar and six points, but had only been tracked 250 miles in 1996. Mechanic said he would replace clutch due to miles, but currently worked fine, and tires had lots of tread, but probably needed replaced due to age. Otherwise 100%.

It is a tough market.

2006 B/W models are selling too cheap to spend $50,000+ on a 1996 or 1997 B/W.

I have been watching 96\97 BW prices for a while now (even have a spreadsheet comparing mileage and price (excluding salvage or heavily customized) and the range of what seems to be "selling" is listing in the mid low 40k's and that is even if they sold for list price and the mileage on those cars are around 30,000 or less. High $30k's will start coming on the market, alas with much higher mileage, in fact one is listed on cars.com with 52k miles at $40k list.

I think when prices are above that it is an emotional sale (not that emotions are a bad thing). Visions of going to Barrett Jackson in the future are things that are in high priced sellers advertisements that stir such emotions.

But in other words is it worth 30% more money for a car with half the miles of the one listed above? Certainly not according to any pricing guide or even common car buying sense, but again it may be "worth" more to the buyer to pay such a premium. Is the car that a "trusted" viper dealer just bought from a private owner on ebay or cars.com for $44k that they are now selling for $52k worth it? Again maybe that $8k dollar premium is to some.

It also depends on mileage. Wait 5 years and the 20,000 miles are probably going to regain value since most will have high miles or be wrecked.

I just bought a '96 a couple months ago for 45k and that was really low for a nice one.

The 96-97 B/W will always be considered THE classic GTS Viper style and color, comparing a non collectible SRT is silly. SRT prices are very weak, try to sell a 03 or 04 now without giving it away. No one is giving away clean unmolested B/W GTS's, several have been for sale lately here in the classifieds and all went for upper 40K to over 50K depending on mileage. Someone looking for the classic original is NOT interested in the SRT version because it has the same color.

The clean GTS's are being bought up sight unseen by dealers like BJ Motors. Ask Bernie if they are holding value. He's not buying cars he can't resell for a tidy profit. The B/W GTS's are money in the bank.

Like I said before the prices of Viper's has dropped a bit in the last 6 months. The prices of B/W's like I wrote not to long ago have also dropped a bit. I mentioned how more B/W's have been popping up with high 20,*** miles going for low 40,000$.

The cars are now 10-11 years old and some owners are looking for something different now maybe a new Viper etc. The US economy is not as hot as it once ie the housing market. People are gonna be selling their toys ie sports cars, boats etc. The Canadian dollar is now worth 1.02 US so expect some to be grabbed by Canadian's looking to purchase Vipers, I bought mine in NOV 05.

In the end there are always deals, you just have to look or wait. Alot of private owners are not real Viper guys, they never heard of Viperclub etc. They just want to sell their Viper and move on. Used car dealers just want to make a sale, now that the season is over in most states.

B/W's with higher mileage ie 20,000 miles plus can be had for low to mid 40's.

Low 40's. Track car with 35K on it.
Find one with 8K bone stock on it like mine for under 50.
Ask Mopar488 and CobraMadness what they just recently bought and sold theirs for.
They are here on the board.
REAL prices recently sold, not Ebay prices.

Unfortunately,it was badly neglected since he purchased the car several years ago, and admittedly so by my friend who is not mechanically inclined or able to properly care for a car of this calibur. My friend purchased the car from the original (finatic) owner in Canada about 7 years ago with around 5k miles on it without so much as a blemish on it. The car was recently sold to a local broker who listed it on EBAY. It is obvious that the car was detailed and worked on both mechanically and physically. It needed A LOT of paintwork due to scratches and chips, several mechanical issues,leaks, etc. Frankly, I would not have paid more than $30k for the car based on the condition I seen it in just a couple of months ago.

I find this thread very interesting since I just bought a 97 B/W on this very forum this past summer. He was a long time owner and member and had the car in the forsale section.
When I first started to look at Vipers I did not have a very high budget set and so I was keeping my search regulated to earlier years, specifically RT/10s. But when I saw a '97 GTS in the upper $30k range I thought I had hit the jackpot. I snatched it up, sight-unseen, and was very happy with my success.
However, now I see GTSs going for upper $30k to lower $40k all the time on the internet - many in much better shape and lower miles than mine. My once-in-a-lifetime deal doesn't seem so great anymore.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but I just wanted to tell my story. I think the prices for gen2s, and B/W GTSs in general, are hitting an all time low right now. I just hope that they will start to increase again soon on their way to the collectors' cars they are destined to be.

You have to keep in mind that after these cars have over 15,000 miles or so, the Blue and White Scheme holds a lot less value. A Blue and White GTS with 20K Miles will go higher than say a same year Red GTS but the difference is not going to be that great due to the mileage. Unless it has LOW LOW mileage, they are not trading above the $50,000 mark.

The collector car magizines are saying the Viper, especially the 96-02 GTS is the next true american collector car and will do nothing but start going up in price. That being said, the next guy that gives his Viper away, neededs to be flogged in public. At least on the forum and then banned for life.:2tu:

You must know something that Viper dealers like Bernie at BJ Motors doesn't. He has a clean B/W there with 19K on it that he's asking 49.9K for. Bottom line: eBay is not the measuring stick. Period. You simply have NO WAY of comparing car-to-car. What looks "good" in the pics doesn't allways turn out so nice in person. That car has a poor history that a carfax will never reveal, either.

I knew that car was of Canadian origin from the VIN, I bet I could guess at the MDH too, as the VIN falls directly between mine and my brothers' GTSs.

A B/W is a piece of Americana, a modern day Cobra. An earlier reference to $40K is way out of line of what the real numbers are. How do I know? I had one for sale with 11,500 miles priced at $54,900 and had strong interest from all over the country. It was sold in 3 weeks real close to asking price, way above $50K. So you guys with B/Ws, you are sitting on a nice investment and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

If he would sell at 47K what do you think he paid for it? He inquired about my black 99 with 6k miles a year ago and offered in the high 30's. I'm guessing he paid low 40's for that car. Exactly the amount the more informed people on this board are stating. Cars depreciate, invest your money elsewhere.

This is about value, not investment. Anyone coming to this board loooking for investment advice is a lunatic. Dealers lowball, only way to make ROI. Most deals they get are trades or auction. Every once in a while they can find someone down on their luck and in a hurry. I notice you stated he "offered" you high 30's. You didn't take it. So the value for the population in the mean is higher.

2 weeks ago I bought my 96 B/W GTS with 43K miles on it for $38,000. The paint was in great condition and interior was to, I would give them a 8/10 and a 8.5/10 respectivly. There is a small leak somewhere under the car by the tranny, the car has a clean carfax and clean Chrysler internal report. Drove it home from Chicago to Phoenix and it was straight as an arrow going down the road. I feel I got a great deal on the car, based on the condition I would say it was worth $40K. But with the mileage the car had on it I was happy! I plan on driving the car alot so to buy a mint 5K mile car was not worth the extra premium (plus I couldn;t afford any more...lol).

I paid 45,500 for my 96 GTS from Brian Anderson (toomanytoys) It has ROE SC w/8lb pulley, water/****, Greg Good heads, custom airbox, belanger headers, borla, eibach's, HRE 547's, short shifter, newer tires, clutch, roters, and brakes.The car had 63k but the engine (from a 97 GTS) had 12k. The original engine also came with the car. Before I bought the car, I had only sat in a 94 RT/10 let alone drive one. My wife and I drove it home to Florida from NC. F-----g AWESOME!! :headbang:

Bought my 96 GTS few months ago. 1 owner car, 100% stock, still plastic covers on the floors, 5k on the odo. 50K, no complaints it was just what I was after and the price was just right. Not looking to make a buck, this one is a keeper! :drive:

I've got a 97 B/W with 250 miles on it showroom new. I'll sell it for 70K :)

Be careful what you wish for. I would say if you put it up and are serious about it you WILL get it.

GTS prices are at the bottom of their depreciation curve and will either remain steady or in some cases start to appreciate IMHO. They did not make may of them and the nice cars are becoming farther and fewer apart. They are also a classic body style that will never go out of style.

I have a 01 Sapphire GTS with 1600 miles on it and I would not part with it/sell it for 70. I love the car and what could I replace it with for 70g, NOTHING I can think of. I don't even think I would get rid of it for 80 right now. What would I do, buy a new Z06? No thanks. That said I do not think there would be a line at my door for those prices but I really do not care. As far as I am concerned it is a keeper anyway. Now if anybody wants my 02 Z06 we can talk. :lmao:

OK, maybe for 80 I would think about it. :dunno: Everything has its price right. :rolaugh: But I am sure I would still be sad.
