There is an event in Texas called the "Maxon mile"(sp?) Sorry to be so vague. if you do a search, I'm sure more info it will come up. It is a mile run and from what I hear it is very well organized and all safeguards are taken for safety. How fast can you go in a mile....

It's been a while since I hit this run, but there's a great stretch of road up here that's 3 lanes, without any on ramps/ off ramps for 3 miles.
Otherwise, the others might be right, Germany!

Interstate 35 in Fort Worth at 02:00 hours.
I-70 West From Kansas to Colorado, Second fastest Speed limit in Country and you can see straight ahead for MILES, nothing but straight open road. Just keep your detectors on and a look out for those un marked cops. Use to drive from Ft Hood, TX to Denver and would take I-35N to 1-70W, and would love Flying down those interstates. Of course did not have the viper at the time, but was fun in the camaro. BTW I would also love the cruise of 1-35 North especially once you would pass Ft Worth. Lets just say I would make good time. I didnt say anything about speeding did I? :D

Silver State Classic in Nevada offers unlimited speed runs twice a year. It is a timed event, where you attempt to match a predetermined time over a 90 mile open road course.

The higher speeds you wish to run the more safety equipment required. Unlimited class is set to go as fast as you dare.

Lots of open straights. Connected by curvey sections such as "the narrows".

You can hit over 200 mph if you have the goods.

To run the unlimited class in the Silver State you need extensive safety modifications to your car - full roll cage, fuel cell, fire supression system, etc. Most people are not going to do that to their street car. I believe the same is true for the salt flats. You also are running against a 6,300 ft. elevation at the Silver State which ***** about 25% of the power out of your car. All in all, not the event you are looking for. Been there, done that.

I think Maxton is here in NC. Might not be enough space to get up to top speed.

Sorry about the bad info on the Maxton mile. Not sure what I was thinking. I hope to go there next year. Hope I didn't offend anyone.

One mile is not near enough to get the car to top speed. A stock SRT-10 will only get to about 160+ in a mile.

Careful guys, I heard about a guy in another thread that was arrested and the court was trying to TAKE his Viper for driving at excessive speeds. Draconian, yes. But hey....some cops cannot afford Vipers and really get pissed at those of us who can (especially if they own Vettes!)

From what I'm getting from the posts so far, I haven't heard of a place to legally test the top speed of a stock Viper. (meaning no required safety mods other than perhaps a 5-point harness). I think that any legally organized closed road events or events at Bonneville that will allow you to drive at a Viper's top speed would at least require a roll bar. Is that a correct conclusion? Of course, you could probably sign up for a lower speed class that doesn't require the safety equipment, and go top speed anyway, and be disqualified and banned for life. Probably would not be a legal matter.
