Figuring a MINIMUM of 12% driveline loss that's 620 hp at the flywheel.
Way to go Dodge! :2tu:

Maybe its planned, maybe theres less drivetrain loss. Im hoping there just all power freaks like Chevy seems to produce. The Vettes/Camaros always dyno alot more then they should.

I had the chance to see the engine dyno at D.C.
The test engines were making consitent 620/630HP ...
It is just a start ...

Nice Numbers,
I have to ask, What do you mean by that statement? Engine package down the road or more HP for 09?

With Corvette engines it means they've already found more HP, they're just letting the higher levels out one option or one model year at a time..

Now the car needs to go to MIR for some 1/4 mile runs to she what she's got in favorable air.

Outstanding numbers. :headbang:

Is it wise though to do dyno pulls on a motor that's seen 12 miles? I haven't purchased a brand new Viper so I have no idea what the recommended break in is. Maybe they're broken in at Connor Ave?

I dont believe anything John Hennessey does. Furthermore, that is 620-635 hp at the crank, top speed in the 1/4 mile should have been higher than what they were getting at Virginia speedway w/ that hp and 1/4 mile times should have deff been lower.

I do not think anyone is going to be "tuning" the new Venom programming any time soon. It is far more complex than the prior programming because of the need to control the cam within a cam and VVT technology found on the 2008 Viper. The code is closed. I think that anyone who says differently is BSing. 546/516 stock is great. Add on the Mopar bolt ons that we have been promised and it will go up a bit more. But, other than the bolt ons, it is going to take a long time to do more with the higher compression, more complex programming of the 2008. As for supercharging. There was a very thorough prior discussion of this. basically, there will never be a simple kit like the current Gen III Paxton kit. The 2008 engine will have to be decompressed first to obtain meaningful gains through supercharging. It will also probably require a cam change out with the attendant changes.

The test surface at VIR may not be as grippy as a dedicated 1/4 track so maybe thats why the numbers dont reflect 546rwhp.....I think owners will see 130mph traps at Drag Strips ssssoon if 546rwhp is real...

I don't see why John would lie about the stock numbers or a cat back upgrade. Now if he was all of a sudden saying he made 800hp NA
that would be another thing.

True. In a short time many should have their cars and a baseline will really be established.

Has this engine been tested yet (SAE) officially like the Gen 3 was when it was rated at 510 instead of 500 hp (factory claim)?
I do not think it is a stretch, in that context, to think these engines are putting out 620 instead of 600 claimed hp.
Most manufacturers these days underrate them slightly so that real world results exceed expectations to avoid law suits from buyers (which has happened) among other reasons.

You BET that they are going to be over 600Hp. Let it be advertised at 600 and come in at 580 and see what happens. If you need an example, Look at what happened to the Cobra a few years back when it's "real world" numbers didn't meet the claimed Hp. If you state a spec, you'd darn well better err on the conservative side.

As far as J.H.'s claim, knowing that he is a tuner, it would be counter-productive for him to inflate the base line numbers. If anything, I'd be more likely to believe that a tuner would post lower baseline numbers so that any mods would show an "inflated" gain, not a minimal..

With the 620'ish number that people have seen on the engine dynos at the plant, 540 at the wheels is right on the money.

Keep in mind also that the 675HP concept car really only had exhaust and some intake work. The titanium connecting rods and valves wouldn't add much in the way of HP. My guess is that with nothing more than full exhaust mods and perhaps a little intake work to allow those monster heads to breath, the car will be close to 600RWHP.
