today at barrett auction# 945 is a 96gts coupe. I will be curious of the price it will bring. Most of the cars have been going for a soft number in my opinion so far.

I was curious if pricing would be soft this year. Do you think it is soft? I have seen some pretty stupid buys so far.

A 1980's Trans-am sells for $60K? Not a collector. Low mileage because the thing probably spent its life broken in a garage. That consigner must have said "Cha-ching"!

I am curious about the Viper - I hope they show it on the block live. Any idea what time it might be on?

I checked on B-J.com. If I read it right it had an number 945 and should come on 2:20-2:30 P.M. central. That's 10-20 minutes from now. I'll let you know if I see it.

So, really it sold for 55K, and the buyer only gets 45K. Does this seem a little crazy to anyone but me?
10% selling fee, 10% buyers fee. It's outa wack!
I doubt the seller would have taken 45K on a private sale, and the seller prob. wouldn't have paid 55K on private sale, but since it was at B-J (use your imagination for what that could stand for) it sells just like that.

Thier (our) time will come. Patience. Look at the '70 Z-28, sold for 100K+, it was one of 4,800 or so. There were only 1166 or so '96 GTS's, in 20yrs, which one will be worth more?

Buyer has to pay tax and transport fee's too.
I guess he can proudly say he overpaid at BJ's auction...:lmao:

I sent in a e-mail to speed asking them to show the car. If anyone caught it they mentioned about e-mails on the car when it hit the block. So funny. Speed responded will have the car on TV.

The BJ auction is probably one of the worst places to sell a Viper. Great for the buyer though.

They barely covered the car. Said they still couldn't believe that Vipers were considered collectible now. No mention of mods or condition other than the mileage which they gave. On every other car they even know the sister in law of the first owner's uncle, which they give us her life story.

Barrett Jackson...? Whatever.

JH has his 08 b/w coupe there, and I notice he jacked up the price on ebay by $13k this week, from $99.5 to $112.5. But, hey, its #1 of 200!

I saw the Viper cross the blocks. One thing I noticed was the commentators this year. In the past the have been fairly critical of Vipers. This year was a little different and that may have been based on their first comment. "We've received lots of emails this year asking where are all the Vipers". This year the geeky looking dude named Steve said he was surprised seeing Vipers auctioned off there already. When the car was done they commented that the price was "about right".

I will comment on one thing. I saw the 2003 Ferrari 456GT go for 137,500 but retailed at around $240,000. That's a 43% drop in 5 years. The Viper started out around $70,000 (probably less), and sold for $50K. That's a drop of only 29% in 11 years. I think this shows our cars are holding their value very well.

I saw the car go thru, I also talked to the owner, my car has 45k miles on it and was just about close to the same condition as his with 8300 miles. I talked to him a bit, he bragged about the car(which I didn't tell him I had one). He said there is no reserve, my reply was "it shold bring about $55K" He laughed at me and said I am expecting alot more. When the bidding hit a wall at $40k I wished I had a bidders paddle. No one really wanted the car and it was dumb for him to auction it there. Bernie has better examples for only a few thousand more!

just my $.02

PS hennessey had a 96 the with $30K in engine work that made 600hp...guy is unreal...he was selling that car for $70k, and the person who put the hood on it was blind:lmao:
$30K in engine work for 600hp...um...Strikers, Cam, RR and you get alost 600 hp for $12K:rolaugh:

I think that BJ is a great venue, and there are more idiots there buying "re-creations" for big $$$ then you can shake a stick at. I think if the car was pumped up better before the auction and if the car was left in stock condition, it would have brought more. It looked like it had a full exhaust and front rotors were slotted where the rears were left stock. That kind of miss-match hurt the car.

Simple fact is, if the guy sold the car on ebay, he would have more money in his pocket(guesing $48-$52K). If he would have simply listed it here and had been patient, he could have sold it for $55K. Sub 10K mile cars are getting very scarce.

I should back up a tad. I watch every minute of the auction. Love the BJ auction. Watching it now. My "whatever" comment is strictly for Vipers. They hype all the other cars. Why not hype the Vipers?

I will add this as well---I thought the B&W GTS looked awesome on the stage. 1 or two
cars later a mustang went for 60,000 dollars was a 68 was clean but nothing all that special. I would not trade my Vipers for alot of those cars even though there "worth"
more, I would feel cheated.:omg:

Seemed like everything was selling cheap. There were a cars they expected to sell for a million or more and they only went for 500,000 with Carrol Shelby's personal 69 Shelby being one of them.

I was shocked the first ZR1 went for $1,000,000.00. It was for charity though. :2tu:

GTS's are at rock bottom right now and can only go one way, up. Give them a few years and I bet we will all be wishing we bought a couple of them and stuck them in our garage.

Barrett Jackson is about emotions. It's about selling old stuff that you may or may not have had in the past. It's about memories or so called glory, otherwise why else would people pay a fortune for an old Mustang or Camaro. They are Technologically inferior in every possible way, and most recreated from genuine "Made in China" parts. So ya, would I love to have a Hemi Cuda....absolutely for about 30K because that's what it's worth to me. Personally I love the new Challenger 100X more than the old model. So why are'nt Vipers going for big money at Barrett Jackson? I think it's pretty easy to answer.........how about the fact that anyone can pick up a perfect example of a GTS on any given day with 1500miles on it for 60K. You don't need an auction for a car that's still relatively new and totally available. What I'm saying here is that you can all blame yourselves for not driving your cars. Hoarding them will only ensure a good supply of fresh cars for years to come and ensure the prices continue to drop for the near future.

Their were many awesome cars "well bought" (BJs term for under market value) and many wierd/odd cars that went stupid high.

see that gold 70 GTO survivor car? That was a give away. And the super low mile GT40 for $145K ??
