Just curious of opinions on this...

Apples to Apples, condition, mileage, etc all being equal.. Which is worth more??

A Solid Yellow 2001, or a 1996-97 B&W GTS?? Obviously the 2001 has ABS, and some updated interior pieces. But of course the 1996 has that classic color combo, lumpy cam, and forged internals.. So... lets hear? Im curious..Dont ask why:cool:

Explaining Viper things to you
A 2001 of course. Why wouldn't I say that when I have one in the garage?

My other philosophy: Money goes in bank, cars in garage.

My final philosophy: Invest in stocks, drive cars.

Thanks. All done now.

What, and clean those ACR wheels !!! jeeeeeeesh. ACR's are cool, no doubt.

But still can't beat the first year GTS, B/W.

The hype that was generated when the '96 went on sale, has not really been seen since.

Not that 20k dollar mark-ups were fair or anything, but still - a tough one to beat overall, the story, looks, color, etc.

What if the 2001 is an ACR?

NOPE, cant do that.. :)

I agree with most of the replies, the B&W is probably worth more.. But there are a million spins you could put on the question, that would turn things the other way..

If the 2001 were an ACR, Saphire/Silver OR a Bumble Bee. I would say HANDS down, the 2001 is worth more.. But in the solid color, I agree. The B&W is worth more.. Ive never seen a more "color sensitive" car, than a Viper GTS.. There can be a $7k swing in value, depending on color.. So, no room to complain about the $3k Dodge charges for stripes.. You WILL always retain (at least that) in value..

I think Taximan got it right on.

I was going to say about the same. It really depends on what you like better B&W or Yellow. Personally there are only a few color choices I would buy, Sapphire/Silver, Graphite/Silver, Steel Gray/Silver, Black/Silver (maybe solid black) or Blue/White. No offense to the people that own the "other" colors.

Its true, the dark/striped color combos, will always command more $$$. I owned a 17k mile, 2000 Black/Silver GTS 2 years ago. I considered selling my yellow GTS, and keeping that one.. Wish I had..

I listed that car in early 2006 on autotrader, and sold it in 3 days.. Might have underpriced it a little.. Oh well.. It WAS NOT as clean as my Yellow GTS. Had some facia rash,etc,etc.. But the color looked hot!!

One would have to study the market & find what the cars are actually selling for and how fast. Each of us has preferences leading us to buy different ones. Isn't it great we all don't have the same!

Sorry but...no way. B/W will always bring more money. People like or dislike every color or combination there is, but I have never heard anyone dislike B/W. Viper blue is just the most gorgeous blue there is.

I agree, I would take B&W over yellow or even a bumble bee any day of the week. That said there are people that love yellow. :dunno: :nono:

All the Sapphire cars are desirable and some of the best looking Vipers made. But then I might be a little biased when it comes to Sapphire. :lmao:

I agree with this statement. HOWEVER, I do not like anything about the 17' wheels.. And I dont think the B&W's look "correct" with the 99-02, 18's. If I were to buy a B&W, I would replace the wheels right away with HRE's or something similar.. Just my opinion..

I'm asking because I just sold my GTS for (what I believed to be) below wholesale, market value. And might be having a little sellers remorse. However, seeing there are "nice" B&W examples out there for low/mid-$40's. I guess I didnt do too bad.

I own a highly modified Sapphire/Silver car (much more rare than b/w) and prefer it to the 96, even if it's a b/w. Of course I have forged pistons in my engine, 14" brakes, big hp, better sounding stereo.

Meaning that if you drive - my car is worth more than both. With VR1 wheels it's a lot prettier than both aformentioned Vipers as well.

But, if you're just buying a garage ornament, the b/w is worth more than the yellow snake.

I read every post with great interest. Funny what 'preferences' are worth in the general market, of course 'exceptions' abound as well. I realize I'm in the vast minority by NOT preferring stripes. Just wouldn't want a stripe car, crazy as that sounds.

Interesting that the general Viper market - with which you guys are far more familiar - greatly prefers stripes, and light on dark, with BW being the top choice. Carry on, I just found this fascinating.

The 2001 is worth a slight bit more as I type this. B/W is obviously better down the long haul of life! :D

I had a 2002 FE, beautiful car. But I always wanted a B&W, especially a 96 with the stripes right through the plate. Then there was the forged pistions and lumpy cam. The choice was easy, I sold the FE and picked up a 1996 B&W. That was almost 2yrs ago, couldn't be happier with my decision.

My favorite color of all is a B/W, but when I bought my Viper I wanted heavily modded S/C car that I could put miles and drive like I stole it. :drive:

If I had bought a B/W, I'd consider that much more collectible and would be much more hesitant to mod and drive it. I am very hapy with my choice.

Thats why I am happy with my 45k mile B/W GTS. At the GTG this weekend I beat the piss out of it. The car just wants more, why collect these things. you are going to buy one for $100K and hope in 10 years its worth $200K:dunno:
Drive the hell out of it, in ten year put a new motor and trans in, re paint it and do it all over again.

Going by the prices and TOTAL lack of interest at Barrett Jackson, the wait for Vipers to become collectible may be 50 years. Drive 'em.
