Idea on what cam is in my car?

I know it's hard to tell just by sound, but can anyone maybe get me a rough guess on what this cam might be? I know it's not stock. Really wish I could get a hold of the old owner.

make sure and let it idle down.

Some people have told me that, while others say it has to have a cam in it. All i have to compare it to is a factory 98. That's why I'm curious. The stealership said the guy told them it had a cam in it. So i'm a little lost.

Curious, did you just watch the first part of it, or did you let the car idle down first?

you hear quite a bit about the 708 camshaft. It was a very nice/powerful camshaft and was installed in all cars from 96(GTS only) thru 1999. Stout lift and duration numbers. My 99 is still stock and everybody that comes near it says I have an aftermarket cam. They don't believe me when I tell them it's bone stock(at least the camshaft

)

All 97s sound pretty nasty with the stock cam. Listen to mine. Sound starts about 30 seconds in. At the end, after I blipped the throttle you could really hear it hitting.

When I start either my '97 or '98 it turns peoples head's it has such a low deep lumpy rumble. The 708 cam sounds like an aftermarket cam, I have been asked quite often what cam it is.

Who knows, it's what I have though. Guess I'll never know for sure until I pull the cam out and look.

The car seems to pull way to good to be only a "bolt on" car. I know my viper would stomp my turbo mustang that was doing 450/480 and only weighing 2800lbs.

Are there "baby" cams that are available that still sound mostly like stock, but still add some power? The dealership told me, "The guy said he had some head/cam work done at Hennessy".

I know for a fact the car has Edelbrock headers, highflow/no cats(the sides don't get hot etc.), and aluminium raidator. I'm still really ignorant on these vipers. Fox body mustangs I can build with my eyes closed. Guess I need to keep reading

When I first got my 99, I took it to get inspected and the viper tech said that it had an aftermarket cam in it as well. It doesn't, not that I am aware of, but I got the same response you did. Confused me as well, but now after reading this I know. Thanks!

Yeas, its the stock cam for a 97'. 97's have a mean cam in them.. My 2001 DOES NOT sound like that though.. I believe the "cream puff" cam was added in 2000..

To get that sound, I had to get a Comp Cam.

Go throw it on a dyno. YOu'll know from the numbers if it has heads/cam.

708 all the way...nice to have a stock cam generate that sweet sound and performance...saves us all a few $$.
