Anyone experience problems with their valentine radar? Seems mine constantly goes off showing a bogey in the rear. (yup, you read that right.. a bogey in the rear!)

Constantly flashing and beeping in all modes. is there simple fix I'm overlooking or is it time to send it in.. ?

Turned cell phone off, no traffic behind me. Radio off, etc..

Send it in.

V-1 tells me to hard-wire it, the ciggie adapter faciliates the falses

I have two V1s, and the high-tech Stealth TT and the Charger Daytona both can cause weird, and repeated falses, while the Vipers never genereate any EMF to make it false.

ie: When my wife hits her Charger seat-warmer, the V-1 falses!!

Mine was acting up occasionally a year or so ago. Sent it in for reprogramming upgrade and it's been flawless since.

I have the same problem with my V1 ever since I got it back in December. I've tried it in 3 different cars and have the same problem in all 3. Even worse, 3 times I have passed a cop shooting radar and the thing never even made a peep!! Guess I'll send it in and see if Valentine can fix it

Are there any OBJECTIVE tests (the Car & Driver or other reputable independent party) that show anything beats a V? If so, where can they be seen?

I posted a thread a couple weeks back regarding Radar Detectors in general; can be found here:
http://forums.viperclub.org/general-viper-discussion/611064-best-radar-detectors.html

I would say about 90% of the Viper community; at least from what I saw own the V1 and the other 10% have some form of ******, either 9500i or 8500 x50 and/or Bell, most likely the STi or RX65.

If you do a google search for "Best Radar Detectors" or anything else along those lines you will find sites like these:

Radar Detectors and Jammers - Reviews & Shopping at RadarBusters.com
Here is the actual forum from radarbusters.com which I did some research on as well:
Radar detector jammer forum: Index

Radar Detectors Reviews; Best Radar Detector

007 Radar Detectors - Best Radar Detector Reviews and Tests

Radar Detector Reviews & Comparisons Test: Beltronics (BEL) RX-65 Pro vs. ****** Passport 8500 X50 vs. Valentine One (V1)

Which Radar Detector is the World's Best?

There are obviously a lot more sites I have checked out but those were the first few from the google search I did real quick..

I must have done research for about 3 weeks straight while at home and most of the time while at work haha

To be honest, reading reviews regarding tests on radars are a good idea. However, there is nothing better then hearing comments regarding personal experience from people who actually own radars; not so much from tests done by car&driver, motor trend etc.,. Although I would take everything into consideration, I would just assume you would get the BEST information from people who actually own certain radar detectors and use them on a daily basis.

From my research of hearing what people actually own and their experiences plus online tests and/or reviews; the three BEST and most recent radars are:

Valentine One:
Pros: Best for front and rear detection, laser detection overall is amazing, POP Mode and arrows feature. Also the fact that you can always upgrade to a newer version for cheap money and they send you a brand new updated unit so you don't have to pay top dollar for a brand new detector when the newest and best features are available is a great deal.
Cons: A $hit load of false alerts, looks like something you would never want to put on your car's windshield.

****** Passport 9500i:
Pros: GPS which allows you to program false alerts to be removed along with the alerts telling you how fast your going as the alert goes off(then again its really not hard to look at ur spedometer as the alert goes off either haha)
Cons: Laser detection isn't as good as V1(at least that is what I've heard)

Beltronics STi Driver:
Pros: Complete stealth; Best Radar Detector Detector; so if your a professional driver, drive a truck over 10,000 pounds or if radars are illegal in your area(Virginia and Washington DC.); your best bet is to buy this.
Cons: laser Detection is worse then the 9500i and far worse then V1.

I'm still trying to get as much information as I can before I buy mine; but I'm really leaning towards either the V1 or 9500i; and also considering one of the custom installs and buying the SR7 or SRX from ******. :2tu:

V1 far and away the best along with best customer service ! !

BTW A false signal every now and again is better than it not going off for a real one.

if it has been dropped or damaged that could easily happen, also i don't know how old your V1 is but go to the website and check to see if it is time(or that they recomend) updating your unit to current software at this time. BTW if/when you have the update performed you get back a brand new unit with full warranty coverage.

Mine is SOOOOO bad about false alarms, I've actually had to turn it down/off just so I can have a conversation with my passenger. I've also passed a cop shooting radar 3 separate times when it never made a beep! I'm calling Monday and shipping it back.

check updates part or just send back for service or warranty service(if still covered) !

Chad does yours have rear laser ? red plastic "window" on rt side of unit facing rear of car, look at lft diagram on web page below? if not yours is prob quite old and in need of updates anyway

Valentine One radar and laser detectors

Yep, its still covered by warranty and has rear laser. It was a Christmas present, so its barely 2 months old. Hasn't worked right from day 1, and I keep saying "I'll send it back", but never have.

Passenger? :dunno:

You mean waitress from *******? :D

Well, yes :D

keep in mind lazer is very accurate and if its not pointed directly at YOU, you might not have a chip.

I have the ****** 9500i and it hasn't let me down yet. Manufacturer claims that it eliminates all false alarms, but I have not found this to be the case, but it eliminates most.

also to help reduce false alarms i alway keep my unit in the "full logic" mode this does not reduce sensitivity but increases how the unit "thinks" or reacts before emitting the audible alarm

I've had my V1 for 5+ years and I've had to send my V1 in a couple of times for repairs (in one instance, it simply lost X band, which is not good for my area, and in another, it would power on but no actually detect anything - in each instance, that's scary because you think it's working), and each time, they have repaired it and returned it free of charge.
