I have read that 1,166 B\W 1996 GTS Vipers were made. I have also read many times that a good number were salvaged. Never any indication of what a "good number" was and I find it hard to believe that so many owners ruined their viper.

However having said that what would your guess as to how many are left?

I would imagine that there still must be close to 1000 B\W 1996 vipers.

(My wife and I saw one and she asked how rare they were)

Not rare. Maybe 30% loss. Just a guess. I saw a previous thread last year estimating the percentage loss. I forget what the number was.

Rare..........usually equated into a percentage of population. So you need to pick a numerator and a denominator to get there.

As a percentage of the Viper population, not rare.

As a percentage of vehicles on the road, very rare.

Compared to other Vipers colors, less rare. I don't know how many red vipers there are.........

cant be....according to the above link in 96 there were 1166 total GTS's....

so that only leaves a total of 3 in any other color.

something aint right here.

The B/W are not really rare its just that there probably more desired.

You beat me to it. Great way to describe. There are PLENTY of rarer combo but the history behind the 1996 B/W especially is why people love them. The first year of the coupe keeps everyone wanting one. Also for references, here are a few of the rarer color combos (not all):

2002 GTS Red with Blue Stripes
2001 GTS Sapphire with Stripes
2001/2002 GTS Bumblebee

I would say to see them on the road is rare for the following
1. many have been wrecked
2. many are stored away
3. the low production numbers of a viper in general

I consider b/w coupes plentiful...Lots of 97s were b/w also...I do like the full stripe on the back of the car unique to the 96...Al

Rare does not necessarily equal desirable/valuable.
96-97 B/W will always be the quintessential Viper GTS to most observers.

In sticking with the original post/question - 850 is my guess.......who knows......

not going to compare models, colors, this n that. That wasn't the subject of the Thread. We all know that the '96 GTS is a rare bird, and when you see those solid white stripes going thru the license plate area, that simple paint scheme made that car look meaner, and for that alone - makes it rare.

The hype behind the '96 - unmatched.

Amount of people who like the B/W color - just about everyone.

How many other '96 GTS's have I ever seen on any Road - none.

venms96,

First you have to get out to see another blue white GTS. On any given VCA get together here in PA, we have at least 3 of them at the same time. I know of 7 people here in PA that have the blue white GTS and all of them are 96's. Rare would be 1 of the 53 blue white RT-10's. Even my yellow 95 is more rare as they only made 298 of them and only 83 in 94 in yellow.
I don't think the fact that they are rare has anything to do with the fact that they are definitely desirable. I think it is more the fact that it is a beautiful color combo on an already beautiful car. :2tu: I personally would love to have a blue white GTS or even better 1 of the 53 Blue white RT-10's.

So don't kid yourself desirable = yes, rare = NO

I knew you'd be here on this one ACELLR8, in fact - I included a comment to you in a previous post here, but erased it - I knew I didn't have to call you out, you'd arrive on your own, and yes - my comment had to do with predicting your statement about "have to get out first", etc. Man, I know you too well !! I should have left it in there. Then you would have gotten more of a laugh.

I get out enough.......in all types of different cars and bikes, you know that. Traveled up and down this East Coast many times, still haven't seen a '96, just my lame experience I guess.

Anytime a particular Car has approx. 1000 or less in existence, I would call that rare. And yea, there are certainly other Viper cars with less numbers than a '96. I don't really care either, but did respond to the original poster's question - how many ??

Quit hatin on the B/W's jarhead !! hahaaa :dunno:

All said in fun of course, but have to say that these days........ now go find that B/W RT10 you want !

Ah come on man, you know I have nothing better to do than stalk your posts. :D No need to edit your posts and be scared, I am not sensitive.

I just knew as soon as blue white was mentioned you would be all over it being the rarest of the rare.

I agree you don't see a lot of them everyday, definitely see a lot of red though.

"rarest of the rare"

I just sold the rarest of the rare......'70 LT1 !

And I love the Red Vipers, all of em, can't wait to park PA Viper's car beside mine someday, in the garage !! Nothing like the Blue color, and there is nothing like the Viper Red either. Red gets a bad rap, it's a great looking car - best red out there on any car.
Too much hype with color - they're all bad *** !

(washed 3 cars today, just for Therapy, to smell the soap, wipe stuff clean ! We get 1 day over 50 degrees, all I hear is rumblin outside, (Bike pipes) miss it - these Winters are too long and **** for car/bike guys.)

You know I had to see this....if they are rare, they must have all migrated to Pa, I see one just about everytime I leave the house:D. Now red / white, only 360 in 02 and 50 in 06...thats a different story:eater:

The blue and white combo that is really rare is the RT10 from 1997. I believe they only did 53 of them ----- now that is very unique and hard to find. The Gen IV has this combination again and one wonders if there will be very many of them made again??
