After reading multiple articles on the Nissan GTR I find this car to be very Impressive, 3800 LBS and less than 500HP and this thing is fast. Its especially fun to watch the Z06 owners get bent out of shape because this thing destroys the Z on a road course. The 997 TT doesn't fair any better, The ferrari boards are buzzing and the GTR looks like it walks on the F430. I think the 08 Viper will beat it and the ACR will definitley send it packin on a road course. The GTR may not be the best looking car but its numbers are good, 0-60 3.2SEC quarter in 11.6

I pretty much covered this here:
http://forums.viperclub.org/general-viper-discussion/612584-ny-auto-show.html

The GTR may not be the best looking car

I don't care what anyone says.. this car looks SICK in person.... maybe photos online don't give it justice but when I stood next to it..it's just incredible...

Great performing car no doubt. But no matter how fast it is I'll still have more fun heal-n-toeing a stick and precision throttling a non-TC car. And I'm betting the Ferrari guys will still prefer hearing their motor in their ear, and the Porsche guys will still prefer the feel of their rear engined ride, and the Corvette guys...well, they'll enjoy whatever it is they enjoy about their Chevy.

0-60 is not 3.2 sec. I have no idea where you have heard that from, its more like 3.4. I don't understand all the hype since the porsche turbo is still a tad faster (according to motortrend.) Unless your talking that its a big bang for the buck. There is however many problems to the GT-R, no manual, weight and WAY too many sensors. You can't even get aftermarket wheels on it because there is a sensor in the wheel (I think its BBS or some brand like that that is trying to develope a wheel).

C&D Test results (they didn't include the '08 Viper, but I wish they had). I looks like the GT-R's numbers are mostly generated by off-the-line 4wd traction ... the Viper will run a way from it after that:

C&D magazine results:

0-60:
2008 Viper (10/07 issue): 3.5
2009 GT-R (5/08): 3.3 ... fastest
2008 Z06 (10/07): 3.7

0-100:
2008 Viper (10/07): 7.6
2009 GT-R (5/08): 7.8 ... slowest
2008 Z06 (10/07): 7.7

60-100:
2008 Viper (10/07): 4.1
2009 GT-R (5/08): 4.5 ... slowest
2008 Z06 (10/07): 4.0

1/4 mi. (best pass):
2008 Viper (10/07): 11.6 @ 126
2009 GT-R (5/08): 11.5 @ 124 ... all traction off-the-line
2008 Z06 (10/07): 11.7 @ 125

Updated with R&T results added:

0-60:
2008 Viper (4/08 issue): 3.4
2009 GT-R (5/08): 3.4
2008 Z06 (5/08): 3.4
2007 Z06 (1/07): 3.6 (??? with no power upgrades to '08 Z06, makes 5/08 results look suspect)

0-100:
2008 Viper (4/08): 8.2
2009 GT-R (5/08): 8.6 ... slowest
2008 Z06 (5/08): 8.0
2007 Z06 (1/07): 8.5 (??? makes 5/08 results look suspect)

60-100:
2008 Viper (4/08): 4.8
2009 GT-R (5/08): 5.2 ... slowest
2008 Z06 (5/08): 4.6
2007 Z06 (1/07): 4.9 (??? makes 5/08 results look suspect)

1/4 mi. (best pass):
2008 Viper (4/08): 11.7 @ 122.8 (a suspect slow speed by R&T, even though the Viper tied for best time - maybe due to conditions)
2009 GT-R (5/08): 11.8 @ 116.5 ... slowest
2008 Z06 (5/08): 11.7 @ 123.7
2007 Z06 (1/07): 12.0 @ 121.0 (??? makes 5/08 results look suspect)

Lap times:
The GT-R beat the Z06 on a 2.7 mile track (in another magazine), and the Viper also beat the Z06, on a 2.0 mile track in the 10/07 C&D issue, so it should be close between the Viper and the GT-R. It would be really interesting to see how the ACR would do against the GT-R ... short tracks, maybe close, long tracks, my money would be on the ACR.

AWD, Traction Control, Launch Control, Auto transmission.

Maybe their next version will actually do the steering as well and take the driver out of the experience completely!:dunno:

No Thanks.

I was reading an article on it today at Barnes & Nobles about the GTR vs a Z06 and Porsche. The car is fast, but it is simplified by a lauch mode, AWD and an automatic, escentially anyone can run a quick 1/4 mile in it. at has no overdrive gear, and 3rd gear only gets you 94mph. To gear a SRT10 the same you could put on slicks and 3:73 rear gears.
In one article the writer jokes that a Z06 pulled up to him on the strret and wanted to race, the guy didnt have enough time to put it into luanch mode and got walked from a stoplight by a 05 Z06.

One article had the GTR ****** the Z06 by 5 secs in just 1 lap on one particular track. Even with Millens long association with Nissan looming over this particular test its hard to believe they would fabricate 5 secs. Sportscar technology has become ridiculous. Not sure Im ready to believe it can beat a well driven Z06 by 5 secs in one lap on such a short track yet.

The 08 Viper will have its hands full no doubt and may lose in a "magazine" comparo. Sometimes track choice favors one car over the other. Small tight track will favor awd GTR. I cant wait for them to hit various types of tracks so we can get some owner/racer comments on this. Still got to be a little weary of the initial mag hype. Remember C6 Z06 was supposedly 2-3 sec faster then 03-06 Vipers when the mags first tested em. After hype the margins dropped to fractions of a second and actually had the Viper winning the roadcourse a few times. Beware the intial marketing hype.

The hype comes from ad revenues... watch how much Nissan advertised in the last 12 months and the next 12 months compared to Dodge, and you'll see the bias.

No offense, but I said according to motortrend, If you read the test on the GT-R, I think its the first one, They say they like it but they also say that its not as fast as the porsche turbo.

The R&T article seems to employ new physics. The as tested weight for the GTR was 3960 - "two tons of fun" should be its new slogan. Somehow it out performed the Z06; which weighed in 600lbs less with 25hp more. I guess anything is possible but man that seems like a miracle. I guess the AWD & and automatic does a lot to correct for their crappy driving of a manual RWD car. That article also kept referring to the super sticky GTR tires versus the Z06 & 911, could be a factor too, but stil ...

I can't say Im a fan of its looks either, looks like an Altima coupe with a body kit to me.

That must have been one special 05 Z06.................................its probably in the same class as the 2007 viper and the 1983 corvette

The car is nothing more than another japanese soul-less, ugly creation and is not worth discussing on a Viper forum. If I wanted a japanese car, I would much rather have an NSX or a RX7 modified up the gazoo. At least they look good. The GTR is hideous.

i saw a new nissan the other day and it had nearly identical lines from the back as the GTR. I think it was a 2 door altima, but not entirely sure. Either way it is one ugly pig of a car. Yes its fast, but GTR is like an ugly girl with .....okay I just remembered I wouldn't be allowed to finish my analogy here

Agreed. I saw one this past weekend at Motorsport Ranch in Fort Worth. Have no clue what all the hype is about.

Anyone who has ever driven a car on a track knows that the 'advantage' goes to the car that is most well suited to the particular track. Big HP cars like Vipers and Vette's require long straights to take advantage of their strength, which is speed in the 60 mph+ range. If you aren't at a track where you can get speeds of plus 130, the GT-R will probably have the advantage, which clearly was the case at Buttonwillow. Get into a really tight track, and it should be compared with a Lotus or Subaru, not a Viper or Vette. As an aside, I wonder why they didn't do the comparison at Willowsprings where they did the 'evil twins' comparison, or VIR, where they were going to supposedly do their new car comparisons for equality sake?

I don't care what CostanZo said earlier in this thread about the car being SICK! It made me ill just looking at it. This car's design (as far as body lines, etc), is terrible. I don't care how fast someone says it is, or will be. I wouldn't drive it because it's an Altima clone first, and no offense meant, but secondly it's Japanese. I'm an American through and through and drive American products. I don't care if Nissan has plants in America, the majority of the profits go OUT of this country. That being said, the GT-R is one ugly car! Hey, that rhymes!!!! Must be a reason!!

Agreed. Wouldnt be surprised to see them return to the site of the Z06 mag destruction with the 08 Viper vs GTR comparo. Technically impressive car, however, hype notwithstanding.

The one thing that I enjoyed about coming to this forum, was that for the most part...most here are passionate about cars. Not neccessarily always their car....but cars in general. The domestics, imports, and exotics...all the same. It is not always just because something looks "ugly" makes it a bad thing or not...beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder. People tease others and comment on "ricer" vehicles, when indeed "we" also dress up our cars with spoilers, aluminum and carbon fiber trim, and such. Now, some are over the top, but never the less its the passion for the car and enjoying the drive that really makes it fun and enjoyable, let alone to even have a car and being able to drive.

With that being said, it would be nice to give credit to where credit is due. Nissan given what they had and did, created a very, very good vehicle at the price that it is being sold. Our $90,000 Vipers better "beat" a $70,000 GT-R in something otherwise...well....we got ripped off. For what they built it for I think that they accomplished that and more. Hats off to them in that.

Its just disappointing to see this forums responses mirroring that of the ZO6 and Porsche's forums with everyone just bashing other cars other than their own.

Just my opinion though. For the record...I was going to buy the GT-R as well.....then finally decided and ended up with a GTS/ACR.

Life is short...just enjoy the ride. :D
