anyone done this to their viper? I have a black 05, and a good friend of mine is a SUPERB painter ... anyways, he has one of those WRX things and he smoked his tail lights by taking them out and PAINTING them .... he says that he just mixes clear with a little black or dark speckle or something ..... turned out GREAT and they are YOUR stock tail lights so no fitment problems.

any opinions?

Explaining Viper things to you
Probably will look great on a black car. As long as the local law dogs like it too. Because it might be illegal to have anything but amber, red, or clear lenses on the rear.

yeah, im a registered motorcycle & car dealer so I just rock my dealer tag everywhere. ......... this is also known as being untouchable as far as this stuff goes (also goes for emissions, inspection, ect ect)

Theres been a few guys that have done this. I used to work at a custom shop and we did this to alot of cars. I never liked the "dark" look. But a light smoke would look good. Like you said, its easy, just light scuff on tailamps and then you spray them with clear, just a few drops of black mixed in. Id also do the lower marker lights in the rear bumper.

Do it! I did it on my truck, 5 coats on the tails and head lights, it looks great. I'm going to do it on the old mans viper soon also. It's a very clean look and on a black viper it will look sick.

I'm guessing this viper has around 10 coats of paint. The headlights of the super duty has 5 coats, smoked out headlight look real tuff also... I know a guy in the Chicago area that does this but mixes candy colors in the paint.

I actually have a set for sale if anyone is interested for the SRT vert. I originally bought them for my Street Serpent until I realized that I needed the coupe lights. They were professional done (sanded, painted, baked) by Zen Garage and are in pristine condition. PM me if interested.

You don't happen to have a set for the coupe lying around that you'd like to work out some sort of trade by chance do you? I'm getting very close and they would look great in this:

I agree they would/will look great on your car. Better hurry though;)... I already have a set done and I am sending a complete "painted" set of lights to Jeff to install on my SS coupe he is building. I just had the lights "painted" for my 01 and they turned out great. One advantage to painting them is that the lenses can be "polished".

Yes, it is called Nightshades and the more coats you apply the darker it gets.

The only problem with spraying them is it is pretty permanent. If you need/want to change them back you will have to buy new ones. Its much better to go with Bats. I also install a tinted clear bra film for headlights/tailights that protects the vehicle from rock chips (on the front) and can easily be removed. I think either option is better than ruining a set of lights and having to buy new ones when its time to change.

Had all the lenses on my truck done back in 2004 with a paint shop. Turned out good and have been very durable. Have broken a couple off roading since then and used Night Shades rattle can and clear coat rattle can to repair and maintain. Never have had any trouble with the law over it either, although mine are "light" tint compared to many I have seen.

If you want to just give it a try, you can cut some smoked vinyl tint.

Nightshades works pretty well, and if you do it too dark, or decide you don't like it anymore, it comes off with gasoline. I assume the clear with a little black would come off also.
I left my third brake light completely stock though, so that it is still as bright as it's always been.

Reminds me of the 2000's. A very light tint like Blue Batmobile or treesnake posted looks nice, but any darker than that makes the car look cheap imo

Looks good; but, I wouldn't care to give a cop an excuse to pull me over. The Viper shouts to them already. Why hold up a sign saying "please officer, lets talk" ?
