Hey all,

was wondering if anyones ever had their 2nd gen GTS's shipped on an open carrier before?
Reason Im asking is because Im buying out of state and 1 of the many shipping companies I spoke to mentioned that the Viper cant go on an open carrier because its "too low" and could damage the vehicle.

The other transporters didnt mention anything but they may not know. A closed carrier would cost an additional 50% more so Im trying to avoid it if possible....

any experience?

Thanks

Just say no. Vipers were never delivered to the dealer that way. They are shipped by Reliable in closed 18 wheelers with lifts to get them up into the truck. There is a very strong chance they will rip your front fascia off loading or unloading as they are just going to drive it right on or of without checking ground clearance or adjust for it in some manner. Picture of unloading at Woodhouse.

I think it depends on the type of open carrier they will be using for transport. one level similar to a sloan or flat ramp could work but a multicarrier with a top and bottom won't work, If you are spending that kind of money for a Viper pay the extra and be safe, damaged vipers do not bring much on resale.

He is correct, a one or two car open trailer can work, but that did not sound like what you were talking about. Try Gary Almond, he's a Viper owner, one of us and he has transported hundreds of Vipers for people on this site with no damages. He has a tremendous reputation. He uses one and two car enclosed trailers. Call his cell and tell him Lee sent you. Cell is 240.994.1343

His web site.

Thanks for the info guys...

So Im guessing the Vipers sit lower compared to the average vehicle that gets stacked on a multicarrier and thats why it cant get on a multicarrier?

Anyone confirm?

Thanks in advance

Pay the extra money and use an enclosed trailer. Better protection for the car. Mine came all the way from the Seattle area in one. They sent an open carrier the first time and there was no way to get the car on it - Too Low. Ron.

It is possible, but difficult. I transported mine on an open trailer with no problems at all. Only trouble is getting it on and off the trailer, I had to build out the ramps a good ways with 2x6's to keep the fascia and center of the car from scraping.

I've had two RT/10's shipped on an open trailer with no problems. The GTS I have now I drove 7 hours back myself.
