I just lost my neighbour to a drunk driver this past weekend,She was only 32.She was up north in Ontario,Canada training for an MS sponsered cycling event. It was 10 pm and she was hit by a pick up truck- a drunk driver while she was riding her bike. She was THE SWEETEST NICEST MOST HAPPY PERSON I EVER MET!

I never even got a chance to say goodbye.I will miss you Meredith, love always your friend Kevin.:(:(

That's sad. And the Government says we have to pay about 400% taxes because 2nd hand smoke is dangerous. Second hand drinking causes instant Death in a lot of cases ... yet Booze is kept artificially low priced and not affected by inflation. So the message our Gov. is sending out is that it's "Good" to drink and they'll forced small business like me to subsidize liquor. Why???

So they can let you drown your sorrows because of all the smoking bans, rules, taxes, fines, etc.???

$400 fines for smokers (if there's a <17 year old in the car), and how much do drunken drivers pay? ***???

$50 fine for smoking ***, but $180-$400+ for cigarettes???

This means that the Gov leaders promote drinking and drugs, but cigarettes are REALLY EVIL? Government focus should be blamed for this misdirection BC leads the way against smokers and writing other BS laws that are meaningless while ignoring/denying the real problems (DD, alcoholism and drug addiction. Instead of using our resources to collect extra taxes, quadruple the cost of liquor so that it maintains it's spot in the economy, instead of being the cheapest entertainment available.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm very sorry to hear of another drunk driving loss. One of my sisters' best friends was hit by a drunk driver in Philadelphia last week crossing the street after a Cardinals baseball game. She had flown up there with another girl to see the Cards play the Phillies. One girl is dead and the other has a broken ankle, leg, both shoulders, facial bones, and has had brain surgery. They are still waiting for her to respond. I think she's only 36 and was a teacher. It's all over the media here in STL. My sister has not gone up there as she's in the ICU and they won't let non-family members in.

The driver was a 19 y/o drunk driver from S. Philadelphia, and like the truck driver in your friends accident, I hope they punish to the maximum extent of the law.. but it still won't be enough.

Condolences to you and to the family.....what a selfish thing people do by drinking and driving, and most of all then killing someone while they're drunk.......what a waste! The law should be the same as it is in Sweden. This guy would fry!!!!

thanks Jim and everyone. The wake was last night-Man it was so ******* me.Merideth was the daughter of a police officer (very high up in seniority) and her sis was too.She was a 911 dispatch and just got a well-deserved promotion a couple months ago.Full time days with full benefits, great pay etc.. just bought a new car.

Thousand or so people were there. She touched many and ALWAYS had a smile on her face and would ALWAYS be there for even strangers!

My viper was in a garage right next to her house on the corner here in my neighbourhood.I sold my snake, but as I'm getting another one- that corner house will be very empty now:(

Was a full page front page story on her 2 days ago.She loved cycling and canoeing and her cottage (where she was killed) in the Bruce Pennensula,Ontario area....Tobermory.
