Ok, I know it's been asked a thousand times, but how the heck do I get the fuel filter disconnected? I read to use the quick disconnect tool, which I have, but I'm still having a hard time. Do I push the plastic collar piece towards or away from the filter? And at the same time, push the line side towards? I'm at my wit's end here, please somebody walk me through this. Service manual is no help, am I using the wrong tool? It's the generic 5/16" fuel line tool...I have tried both my plastic one and the steel one, still not budging...I can't even get the outlet side disconnected.

let some pressure off the system at the pressure port at the back of the passenger side intake manifold. Don't set fire to anything. then forget the tool. push the clip and pipe towards the fuel filter to release the grip and then while holding the clip back towards the filter pull the pipe away from the filter. prepare to get covered in gas.

Edit

Depending on which side you are doing you need to hold the clip back to what its attached to, look at the new filter to work out which way you need to do it

Ok, after much gnashing of teeth, I have a new fuel filter in...and still have both of my eyes. It was a pain, but with a little gentle pressure, it came out pretty readily. Thanks for the help guys.
