Tire question: Will 315s fit on my 275

Will 17 inch Kumho V700s 315 fit on my stock 275s front wheels?

Buying tires from a buddy and just want to make sure they will fit. :2tu:

The actual rim on your OEM fronts should be 17 x 10 inch. What you actually should have on a 10 inch rim is a 305...

I don't know why Dodge puts such a narrow tire (275/40/17) on a 10 inch rim...

You should be able to run 315's fine on the front...(305/35/17) would be ideal...but 315/35/17 would probably be as wide as you would be able to get away with...

Your "error" should be 0.086%...that is pretty darn low...

You going to love those 315's up front on the track. However, that rear end give will be amplified. I found that the car would never push with the 315's, and the rear would always get loose first in the turns.

315 Kumhos would be fine. The Kumho is much smaller than most tires the same size anyway(not sure why). You will have no issues with them. It's like putting on 295 Pilots.

I think if you turn your wheel with the 315's, the tire will hit the wheel well.

Nope...there is no rubbing or hitting - you can turn it full left to right (my car has not been lowered though...)

Many many sets....... In fact, Dean Word III and I introduced 315 fronts as our 'secret weapon' back in 1996 to "Newbee" Bob Woodhouse.

They do benefit from a performance alignment, with at least 1 to 1.5 degrees of negative camber...

If your car has been LOWERED, as with Eibachs or Spring caps, or both, the very inner shoulder of the 315 will rub ever so slightly on the inner fender well, at FULL-LOCK "Parking Lot" speeds and Auto-X manuevers as the suspension dips

275 refers to the width of the tire...

What Dan is trying to ask everyone is, if a 315 (17) tire will fit on a stock 10 x 17" rim...

From what I have gathered, the 10" on the stock 17's should have had 295-305 width...so a 315 would be fine...but I would not go beyond that...neither would i ever put anything smaller than a 275 on a 10" rim.

Is there a chart some place to see what tires will fit what rims, and what advantages/disadvantages a given size verses another size tire for a rim size.

There are some charts online but some brands fit differently than others. Kumhos, Sumitomos and Dunlops seem to be a tad narrower, while Nittos, Bridgestone and other may be a tad wider.

As far as advantages or disadvantages...the bigger the contact (width) the more traction you will experiment...this could yield oversteering or understeering. Wider tirers on narrower rims, will have a bit more flex on the tire walls and will allow tires to roll a bit further. On cars with stock suspension, this is ok...on cars with stiffer suspension, it will make the car feel a lot softer and will snap quicker into over or under steering.

A lot of these things can be dialed in with an alignment to match tire width also...
