I have a very strange power window problem on my 2000 GTS. Both power windows will not work. Last time i drove it I had an intermittent problem with the pass window not going up but then it worked fine. Now I have been tracing wires for a day and cant find the problem. I am not getting power to the switch or to the circuit breaker. I also noticed I have only one hazard light working when I turn them on and my rear window defroster is not working either. I have checked all fuses. I have not started working on the defroster problem yet.

Already talked to Chuck. He was helpfull and thankfully talked me out of ordering new wiring harness. Unfortunately that is not the problem. I have checked the wiring harness in both doors and the window regulators and the switches and the circuit breaker. I think I have a short somewhere that I can't find. I checked for resistance between the power leads going to the window regulator from the wiring harness on the under dash wiring harness. I am showing a closed circuit. I unplugged both switches and I tested from the passenger door also and it shows the same thing?:omg: I guess now its off to pull the dash and start tracking wires:dunno: or bring it to my local dealer who worries me.

Explaining Viper things to you
This would certainly be a good time to have the factory manual with the wiring diagrams if you don't already.

I had a similar (meaning weird too) problem with my Super Duty that when I replaced the blown cruise control fuse the backup lights and AC blower motor would come on. And this is with the keys in my pocket, ignition off. Turned out to be a burned up main fuse panel. Circuits were shorting together. The factory wiring diagrams were a life saver.

Here's the Ford version of fun...

I just fixed my driver side window. The contacts inside the switch were black. I polished the contacts to a silver finish and now it works fine. Problem is, the passenger side had the same issue but that didn't fix the problem. Whem I try to lower the window, it goes down. When I try to raise it, it stays put with no motor sound. The red needle inside the voltage meter won't move either. It sounds like a contact issue but I guess the contact issue might be somewhere else.

Ok this is what I have so far. I checked the door wiring harnesses, switches, circuit breaker, grounds and taking a break. I do have all factory manuals and the viper tech training books. I do have a good ground but I am reading about 20k resistance from my hot wire to my ground on the wiring harness going to both switches. I do not have any voltage coming to the circuit breaker or to the switch. I will pull my power dist. center (fuse Block) later today to check behind it. I am starting to wonder if it might be my ignition switch. I don't think the windows have a fuse to them. I havent even started to worry about the rear window defroster yet but I did glance at the fuse block by the amo and check the fuses.

I also checked the other systems my rear defroster is not working, my climate control system is also not working (this doesnt supprise me since the car did not have this in it when I purchased it ACR) and my turn signals are not working. However my hazard lights do work.

I think I finally found my problem in the ignition switch. If I ran the wiring diagram correctly the Black/Orange wire comes from the ign switch to the windows. If the ign is in the run position this wire should be hot. Please correct me if I am wrong. I think the switch is a comon part to most Chrysler vehicles. I am not getting power out on this wire.

I have this problem with my hazard lights as well, only the driver side blink. Both set of turn signals work though. I haven't looked into it though since I never use the hazard lights anyway.

If you find the source of the problem I'd appreciate you posting up what you found.

Well done, good effort so far, please keep us updated :eater:

My windows had intermittent problems, I found a broken wire where the loom enters the drivers door, fixed that one, then sometimes the windows would not go down or up? I removed the switches took them apart and cleaned the contacts, there all fine now :2tu:

it is the switch and nothing but the switch. Had same problem and after testing they said is was the control box for $500 and then thea switch 3 weeks later. There is apparantly no test for the switch.

No, Gen II models have power windows. Gen I does not have glass side windows.

In my case, both power windows (1999) worked intermittently. From reading old threads on here I would have sworn it was a defective wire in the harness between the door and body.

After needlessly removing one door panel and a few other things I eventually sprayed the switches with contact cleaner, wiped them clean and now the windows work perfectly.

My problem was the ignition switch. I should have trusted my 1st instinct when I noticed I was not getting power to my window switches to go back to the start of the circuit. This fixed all the problems I had in the car from the climate control, rear defroster and power windows. I did not look to see if all of these are on the same power output from the switch but I assume they are.

Got it fixed changed out the switch and it fixed all my problems. On the car at least.

Sorry for the bump of an old thread. I think I have the same problem. I am trying to separate the key switch mech. from the ignition switch. I checked the manual, I could not find a description on how to separate them. Anybody know for sure?
