Well, after owning many V-8's and yes they did sound good. I prefer my '08 Viper's V-10 exhaust note.

The print media kills me:rolaugh: especially the web-based. After reading many of their reviews I'm pretty sure they don't even test drive the car. They just copy another review and change it up a bit.

Case in point, "the exhaust sounds like a UPS truck". I have read this on at least four different reviews. Why does it not sound like a FedEx truck or a box van, etc, etc.

The reason why is because they are just copying other reviews

Now listen to this and tell me the UPS truck makes the same notes :omg:

I have an 05 Viper with a Corsa Track system.

It sounds good but NOWHERE near as nice/exotic as the supercharged 32 valve engine on my 532HP Mustang Cobra.

That car has a Bassani Stainless X-Pipe (catted) with a Borla Stinger exhaust.

Pure sex.

At full tilt the Viper sounds like an old propeller warplane where the Mustang sounds otherworldly.

Both appeal to me, but in different ways.

What I like about the V10 sound IS that it's wierd/different. Lots of people tell me they know its me coming before I get there, because no other car sounds anything like it, and it's stock.:D
Even my cast iron V10 truck sounds unique.

Not only do they copy other reviews but the copy outdated reviews. The old "UPS truck" comments are from the GenII era. The GenIII doesn't sound anything like the GenII and in fact sounds pretty good considering the federal restrictions. I've never heard a bone stocker of any make sound too great anyway.

I must admit that I always found the exhaust on the Viper to sound odd when compared to other gals that I am used to however (now referring to an 2009) after having her out a few times I no longer think that it sounds odd but rather different and IMO this is a good thing.

Takes care

BTW the video clip did present a wonderful sounding Viper

It is an exhaust that grows on you. My favorite exhaust I've had was my 02 Trans Am WS6 with headers and Magnaflow catback. Deep and smooth as silk. I love my Viper, but it's a totally different sound and I still appreciate the hell out of it. I'd still rather drive the Viper any day of the week :)

I must say when my Viper was stock, everyone would say how quiet it was and I agreed. It just did not sound like it was a V10. Of course due to the restrictions. Now that I have the Corsa exhaust with RT High flow cats, you cannot escape the one in a kind sound. I cannot sneak out of work because the boss knows the sound of the Viper :D Everyone can tell that its not a V8. When you step on the gas every man and woman are looking around trying to find the exotic sound, I love it :D

LOL, funny story.

When I first got my SRT10 I thought the car had an aftermarket exhaust on it. I'd get on the 101 freeway and hit the gas and at the time to me, the damn thing sounded like death itself coming to take you away on the hellfire freight train.

I posted on here and even took pics and the experts let me know I had stock exhaust. Well I had to fix that little problem right away. :rolaugh:

First month of owning the car I take my butt down to Dan Cragin and buy two green filters and a full Corsa Track kit and installed it in my garage.

Started the car up and the damn garage windows shake in their mounts. Cruised down on PCH shortly after install and the Ferrari club musta had a drive and I just "Corsa'ed my Viper" right past their little parade. Not even the 575 Maranello wanted a piece after my "flyby". LOL

Since I am in Cali I have to do all smog legal mods.....I can't imagine what the guys with straight pipe, headers and no cats sound like :omg:

To add a little to my story, kind of funny. I park in a garage that is connected to one of the buildings we work in. Garage on second floor, work on third floor. Well one of the guys had just started to go up the elevator just as I arrived in the garage to park. He had thought the elevator just broke and was about to go crashing down due to the building shaking:omg: Perfect timing because just as he got up to the top level I had just turned off the car as I was parked. Little did he know it was me just arriving :D People at the office know when I show up because their cups of coffee on their desks literally shake. I love it. :rolaugh:

Driving my 06' with the stock exhaust just reminded me of driving some old English car. You know, where it is just sickly, meak and mild sounding. That is the best way I could describe it. It really wasn't for me. Once I put on the full Bellanger Exhaust system (Headers, Hi-Flo Cats, No X-over and cat back) it now sounds REAL exotic and racey. I wouldn't change a thing now and feel the Bellanger sound is the perfect sound for the Viper, IMHO. It is different still than anything else on the road, but I really, really like the sound of my Viper now.

There is just something about a V8 with a perfectly tuned exhaust though. My S351R with the 408 Stroker, straight gear Vortech and Bassani X-Pipe, as it is about the best sounding vehicle I have ever heard or owned. Not too loud and not motorboat sounding. It is almost a little Nascar sounding.

Though I am so familair with V8 sounds my whole life, all I can say is I prefer both equally for totally different reasons now.

I do remember hearing my first Viper exhaust, which was a stock 1994 RT/10 and I remember thinking, is there something wrong with that car? It sounded ike a Briggs and Straton lawnmower. Pretty much one of the worse sounding cars I have ever heard and one of the reasons I did not buy a Viper for a long time. Well that and money, at the time. :( The older GEN1 cars had real sad sound exhaust in IMHO, but the car got out there for us to purchase so it is all good. Like they say in the movie Troy, "We play with the toys the Gods give us". A V-10 was never mean to be choked off with a restrictive exhaust. When free to breathe, they sound REAL good.

BTW It doesn't bother me or the neighbors too much, but I had a neighbor across the street and down from me, who came out one morning after I started up the car and he had a broken plate in his hand. He said after 5 minutes, after I started my car, one of his wife's plates mounted on the wall, fell out of it's mount and broke on the floor. He was laughing as he never liked those anyway, but I have had a few neighbors comment that they can feel when I start my car. Good thing he doesn't care too much as his Yenko Camero is pretty loud itself. I did feel bad though as I didn't notice it that much.

I never cared for the Gen II Viper sound, they sound like a pack of Honda ricers revving up fart pipes. The SRT-10 cars sound very unique to me, sound doesn't bother me at all. My '06 with the custom catback and cats is very deep sounding compared to stock.

I have never heard in person a Stock 00-02, is that what you are talking about???

A 96-99 with aftermarket exhaust sounds more like a pack of Harleys!
Mine at idle sounds like a stampede of horses.

I love how you can hear every cylinder of the V-10 fire,
nothing like the blended consistant sound of a V8

The V-10 has a lower pitch. Lot's of people equate the higher pitch of the V-8s as more exciting. But it's personal preference I think. I like the sound of my stock SRT 10. It's actually very quiet. which is just fine by me. I'm too old to sit in the Mall parking lot and rev my engine with the the teenagers.

The Viper is a great car and exciting to drive, But this thread is about sound. There is very little that compares to the exhaust on the 440 magnum in my 70 Challenger. There are comments about the smoothness? of a V-8 ? Or loud? The Challenger isn't loud or smooth, but sitting idling in the garage, or hearing the back barrels kick in under full acceleration, the stock HP (2 1/2") exhaust with free flow mufflers is as close to Heaven as I may ever get. Nope, not selling the Viper, but its #3 in the sound Dept. ( Ducati wi extensive Dyno time is on the heels of the Challenger).

My post was about the over-copied statements by the "press" about it sounding like a UPS truck. I just received a delivery from UPS and I'm postive the truck didn't sound anything like my SRT10 :drive:

Vipers with side exhaust pipes sound horrible...like a 5 cyl UPS truck with a Civic fatty pipe hung on:omg:
Unless they have a H pipe connector underneath...then they sound like a FedEx truck:D

Rear exhaust sounds a lot better but...

Any V8 sounds great.....also the flat 6 Porsche I used to have soounded great :crazy2:

Here is a quick example I found on Youtube. I can't stand the way this Viper sounds. Like I said, like a pack of angry Honda Civics with fart pipes, storming down the highway.

The SRT cars sound much deeper.

Coming from the V-8 universe of sound, I was a bit disappointed with the GTS's at first, but the exotic note seems to go with its unique looks. Way too quiet at birth, I fitted some Random Tech high flow cats to a four muffler Borla cat back. I now crave the sound. At some rpms it sounds a bit like a V-8, but when you pin it, it is all angry V-10 that truly says high torque beast. The lopey idle of the 708 cam allows every cylinder to speak like a old married couple; angry, argumentative, joined at the hip, but rock solid through thick and thin. V-8's are sweet sounding, but too familiar at this point. The v-10 performance coupled with its looks and sound reminds me every time that the Viper is something truly special.

This is probably where they got the reference to the UPS truck sound from....it is very similar;)

I agree that this GTS doesn't sound so great. I think the part of the exhaust note that is similar to fart pipes is the echo. Like the exhaust pipe diameter is over sized compared to the ideal size the car should have. You hear the same mess in diesel pickups that have 5" sewer pipes hanging off the back.:D
I don't know, but would assume that having the mufflers closer the exits would help cancel the echo.:dunno:
