No it is not back in production at this time. We can order Vipers, including ACRs, again, and virtually all colors are open...........though there will be a delay in white and graphite.

I just got today a call from a desesperate member.
He has ordered a 2009 ACR in November and the delivery date seems to be around August 2009 ...
He was very unhappy. He badly wants a car for several events in July.

Can you explain why there is a delay with the white and graphite. I ordered a Graphite/Black/Red stripe ACR in Sept, and the wait is killing me!!! I was hoping that my car would be one of the first to go down the assembly line in April, since I barely missed the cut off when they shut down.

Thanks,
Scott

I dare say that between those gals that were never completed and now the new orders being taken that there are going to be many unhappy folks as the many months of not knowing for sure roles by

Hopefully all will receive their gals; those ordered today could end up being considered 2010 models if only because of the delivery dates however I suspect that by assigning vin numbers at this stage insures them to be 2009 which may in fact negate any additional regulatory requirements already in place for the 2010 model year.

All the best

Let me first say that...I absolutely know nothing about the future of the production of the viper! All my knowledge is purely second hand...DaimlerChrysler/Cerberus/Fiat reports, media reports, information from forums, talking with the regional officers, etc. My opinion is that we've see the last of viper production for a while...CAAP is closed and it's a ghost town there, parts suppliers have gone out of business...they are clearly trying to dump all the current inventory...we've seen the discounts that haven't previously been available on vipers...employee, military, friends and family, whatever. They are only taking orders to help entice someone to buy the viper 'brand'...you know...'Hey, look, buy me, look at all the vipers the consumers want.' kind of deal.

Again, I know that I will step on some toes with 'just my opinion' here, but I doubt that anyone with current viper orders (unless they are already built and waiting for final processing) are going to see them.

Again, this is only one man's opinion based on second hand information. I'm not as psychologically hooked to the viper staying in production as many of you are...I'm just very very very happy that I have mine!

Can Anyone here refute or support these statements.

It'd be awful if those orders are bunk and no more vipers will be produced.:(

Just about anything CAN happen - but everything I hear points toward production starting up in about a month, with ACR production starting about a month after that. Maybe we'll find that we have to wait a bit longer for our cars than we want, but we'll likely get them. I personally am OK with the wait - I plan to have the car for a very, very long time so a few months here and there don't add up to much.

CAAP is scheduled to open on March 30. Anything can happen, but as of now, they are scheduled to resume building on March 30. I believe that we are about to see our beloved snakes again - soon! I just wonder if this is the last summer that we will see Dodge Vipers distributed to our dealers???

I think the Mar 30 date was a "hopeful" date the new owners would be in place and going by then. Remember, there has been no PUBLIC announcement AT ALL of the plant re-opening.

The Mar 30 date is based on dealers-only discussions!

The last public annoucement (by Chrysler execs) was Feb 2 and that date came and went and no official word followed AT ALL. In fact, on Feb 2 is when the public announcement was made that discussions were occurring.

The last public annoucement (Mar 3) was that there was no deal and no buyers in sight.

citation by Jim Press (Exec at Chrysler):

"We are not in an imminent position of selling it," he said. "We will when the market is right, and the buyer shows up."

from:

Chrysler says still in talks on selling Viper line | Deals | Mergers & Acquisitions | Reuters

Based on that, I would be surprised if the Viper line re-starts.

Why? Because (don't forget) Chrysler has taken gov't bailout loans and those loans are due to be re-repaid at the end of this month or, in lieu of that, a gov't approved 'plan' must be in place and I do not think it will include further production of the Viper. And if Chrysler does not get a gov't approved plan then they will have to file for bk'rptcy (or Cerberus will have to bail them out).

Citation:

Geithner to lead auto panel | detnews.com | The Detroit News

Chrysler says it needs $3 billion more to stay alive beyond March 31...

I would love to be wrong, only time will tell and it's not far off now.

Good things come to those who wait!

Patience (pā-shəns) is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without becoming annoyed or upset; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. It is also used to refer to the character trait of being steadfast.

All signs seem to point to production resuming soon - the parts supplier issues have been mostly fixed, I believe a new contract is in place for body panels to be painted, and quite a few new sold orders have been accepted into the system. I'm sure there are questions that can be asked on the upcomng Q/A session with SRT that would shed light on the situation.

Yes, CAAP opened up on Monday, March 30, and they are building Vipers. I found out that my Graphite/Black/Red Stripe ACR started down the line on Tuesday, March 31.

Great news! I've been considering getting that exact configuration myself. I've been viperless since Jan 2006.
