i never heard of such a thing. i have an 08 cpe, i took out the air filter at the track today along with the water diverter in the hood to get more air in the engine. the next thing that i know, i have a check engine light on and a flashing throttle position light ( the red lightning bolt on the left side of the dash) and the car will not move. it sounded like i had a crazy cam, and there was no throttle response at all.so at first i thought it was coincidence that i took out the filter and this happened but i put the filter back in and (****) everything fixed. is this car that sensitive? any input would be appreciated jason

From what i have heard SRT did everything to get the most power out of that new v-10 that they could. Lots of little things that you used to be able to do on the gen I-III cars will give a gen IV car some issues.

The problem was the buffeting of the air around the MAFs that caused you the issue

The filter works as a damn of sorts and allows the engine to draw air in rather than having it pushed past the MAF.

Takes care

Sensor tolerances are very tight in the Gen4 cars, you can get a CEL from just a change of filter let alone NO filter! Testing has been done all kinds of ways and there is nothing wrong with the stock set up. If you want to be able to try more just buy the Mopar PCM and the tolerances are opened up about 200% for the addition of mods like this.

Got to be a few hundred posts here on the tetchiness of the '08/'09 sensors. Good news is that it was easily corrected and nothing you were trying would have helped.

The exhaust side is the only place where you can play.

Why would you completely remove the filter?

I am crew for a buddy's race car and after a single race the filter is packed with dust, rubber, and who know what... I wouldn't want that going directly into the intake...

I dont understand the rationale of taking out the filter even if it did produce a FEW extra horsepower since there are MAYBE 7-8drivers in the country capable of running a bone stock ,stock tired Gen 4 to the car potential anyway.Basically unless your capable(driver wise ) of running high 10s or low 11s the last thing you need is more power.

actually i allready got a 11.1 @129 out of the bone stock 08 cpe and i was trying anything to get in the 10s. and that is with an elevation of 800ft, jamie furman ran a 10.9 @ 129 at 100ft elevation. i need more air flow to get in the 10s, that is why i tried it. i am sure i could work on the 60ft but i ran a 1.81 60ft. you cant get much better than that, i am sure some people have but your talking about the most perfect launch and track conditions.

what kind of race r u talking about? a drag race or a road race? u will not pick up much of anything in a drag race, maybe a few bugs or possibly a bird. none of my 1200hp turbo cars have filters. i have never had a problem and i have 100s of passes on them. it is not that big of a deal to take out the filter in a drag race at a race track.

I removed the air filter for a dyno run on my ACR and got the same lights and codes... and I had the Mopar ECU as well.... the car picked up 10HP.....

how do you get the rain baffle out, I see the 3 tabs, just pry them out and the piece drops down? Do the tabs go back in (reusable)? The look like typical interior type fasteners...

thanks...

Sorry, couldn't tell from your first post if it was drag or road... I'm talking about road racing...

you are correct just carefully pull the body clips out and pull the foam off without ripping it and push it back on. and than you have a functional ram air. hense the reason i was trying to remove the filter. i can guarantee a few tenths with the water diverter and the air filter out.

Thats a GREAT time (bone stock on stock tires )As you mentioned gets into the 10s for you with you driving ability is totally predicated upon air and track prep.
