Two trips to the testing facility each preceeded by 200 mile drives and I still can't get my 2003 to ready status. The printouts read "not ready". I've searched the topic and find others have had this issue. How many miles need to be driven and under what conditions? Has anyone tried for a waiver based on low use vehicle? Thanks for any
suggestions....I can't renew my plates until I pass!!!

Larry, are you going to the autocross on Saturday. I can give you some more info about it then if you are. The car has to go through probably at least a couple of complete drive cycles to get all the monitors to set themselves to ready. Just going on a 200 mile drive isn't necessarily going to reset all of the monitors, lots of different conditions have to be present.

No, I won't be at the autocross. Thanks for your offer to discuss. I believe you are correct in that I need to make more cold starts and trips of varying types. How weird is it that I have to drive the car many more miles than normal and emit more pollutants....just so I can pass an emissions test?

Mines an 01, I've gotten all my monitors to reset in under 25 miles. The key is drive super easy, shift gears at lower rpm's. Let the car decellerate 3 or 4 times from highway speed leave it in 4th or 5th gear. Take for a little interstate run to let everything get up to normal temp, drive in 6th for a bit, then exit interstate and let it idle for a few seconds, for some reason this always runs my catalyst test. Currently doing this on mine sets the check engine because of my high flows. I don't have o2 simms yet.

Throw in a couple of cold starts and you should be good. Do you have access to a scan tool, so you can check the monitors yourself before taking back to the emissions testing center??? I think these can be had now for 50 bucks maybe....it can be frustrating going back several times to the testing place....

Remember if for any reason you disconnect the battery, it'll start the whole process over as it clears everything. I used to work at an emissions place in college, and I know how frustrating it is to get these things through sometimes....I was working when we had just started doing OBD II testing and everyone was clueless. I think it is a little better understood nowdays.

Also, if you do get a chance to make it to one of the next club events and need to borrow my scan tool, just let me know and I'll bring it along! :)

Thanks very much for the assistance. I'm going to buy a scan tool today. I've got a 1999 Trans AM sitting in storage for a year with the battery removed. It has to go to inspection too. I'll see if the T/A acts the same as the Viper. But first the Viper. Hopefully I'll get it to "ready" after some driving this weekend.

Bought the scan tool. Drove the car around in traffic...stop and go...for 50 miles. Now I have one I/M monitor "not ready". The other six I/M monitors are "ready". So all I have to do is figure out what driving pattern is required to put the Evaporative System Monitor into "ready" mode. Any suggestions, as always, are appreciated. What a long strange trip this has become.......

Let it sit overnight, 8-12 hours maybe. Fire it up the next day and drive a little, it should run the evaporative test. I can't remember exactly but it might require one or two cold starts.

I hope this helps, post back either way.

I'm back and must have an issue other than just driving the car. I finally got all seven I/M Monitors to "ready". I verified this with the car's on-board test method. I also hooked up my scan tool and it also showed all I/M ready.
The car sat in my garage over night. I took it to inspection today and they showed the car not ready (4 I/M monitors). I left the inspection station....pulled over and ran the car's on-board test....it showed not ready. What to try next.....???

OK, do you think a 1997 GTS, with high flow cats, Belenger headers, Corsa cat back and a DC tune would pass emissions? Someone said the 708 cam was too aggressive with belengers. True or false???

Thanks in advance!

I felt I should close this out and possibly save someone all the hassle I experienced. I contacted Dennis and Dave at Roanoke and told them about my I/M Monitors returning to not ready. Dave contacted Chrysler Tech and was told if the voltage at the starter drops below 7.5v the monitors will go to not ready.

I bought a new battery, installed it and drove 12 miles. I hooked up my scan tool and all I/M Monitors showed ready. I started the car a few more times and all Monitors remained ready. I just passed state inspection.

Bottom line....it was the battery. (My old battery seemed to be OK with no starting problems at all.)

Thanks to everyone who provided input.

The guys at Roanoke are the best! Glad they could help get it figured out.
