Here is the before and after dyno from my Paxton install. Mods are Corsa Track Cat-backs, high flow CATs, X-Metal throttle body and K&N intake for Base line. Added the Paxton with the supplied intake for the after dyno.

I got an increase of 231 rwhp and 149 rwtq. I believe max boost was about 8 lbs. 711.54 rwhp and 650.06 rwtq :2tu:

learn how to drive it all over again. be careful, thats a lot of power now.

PS : I hope you have a real fuel system in it to support that power

Yes, I trashed the Paxton supplied system and upgraded the fuel pump, added a boost a pump, bigger injectors and a SCT tune.:2tu:

Way to go Buddy!

I am going to have to pick one up at some point!

How is the install on these systems?

I have installed blowers on my Vettes but was wondering if you guys are doing these on your Vipers?

Thanks,

Andy Wheeler

I installed the A&A kit on my Vette, I opted to have this one installed on the Viper. I don’t think the install would be much more difficult. I think the issue would come In with the Paxton supplied fuel system, it raises fuel pressure to offset the increase in fuel needed under boost. As long as you are able to log you’re A/F ratio, you should be able to install the kit and make sure the supplied fuel/ timing systems work.

I would have installed it myself if I wasn’t short on time and a good tuning software package was available. I’m buying the SCT Racer Pack so I can adjust the tune I the future.

Stock pistons? If so, I was wondering what Larry said about system strength at the power level shown which is about 50 to 60 HP and about 50 lbs of torque higher than the typical numbers on the stock Paxton kit install as measured by a Dynojet dynamometer. ( I realize your injectors and your fuel sysetm are not from the stock kit.) I am assuming the dyno was a Dynojet. If it was the same type as the new Dyno that DC Performance is now using, then I would not have the same question because Dan Cragin said that the new dyno produces numbers that are higher than a Dynojet. So, if possible, please indicate what kind of dyno was used. Thanks.

All stock internals.

Larry does use the dynojet, not sure the model though. It didn't look like a newer one to me.... You would have to call him to get that info.

I believe my numbers are a little higher than a typical Paxton install due to the few bolt on parts and mainly due to the SCT tune Larry installed that dialed in the A/F and eliminated the need of the split second timing box.

As for durability at that level.... Time will tell, I will be adding a **** kit for insurance. Once I need more power I can forge it and turn the boost up :2tu:

Very nice numbers. Would love to see and learn more about the changes you made in comparison to the stock paxton offering as their fuel pressure solution and fmu system always bothered me.

I had an issue with it also.

Give Larry Macedo a call at Macedo Motorsports, he did the upgrade (407)246-6511

With this much more power, will your OEM tranny, clutch and diff handle this or did you do some upgrades there also?

I have an 06 with the Paxton kit. I used their fuel system (boost controlled dual fuel pumps with FMU). Added 200 HP to the rear wheels. Went like a freight train until the engine grenaded at Pocono on Monday. I think I put a big hole in something, oil every where. Threw up a cloud that blotted out the sky. Bummer!!! Fortunately the motor didn't lock up and throw me into the wall. I guess its time for forged internals!

Do you have a swing arm oil pan in the car? Do you have a track/blower tune? Were you running the car more than 30 minutes at a time on the track? How do you know that the problem was due to the fuel system?

Well the engine hasn't been torn down yet or even removed so I don't yet know what failed. I'm not blamming the fuel system unless I discover that it somehow failed. The two auxiliary fuel pumps are boost controlled and I have no reason to believe they failed to perform at this point.

My guess is a rod came through the block simply based on the amount of oil that was pouring out of the car. The car was dyno tuned after putting on the Paxton. A/F was about 11.3 or so across all RPMs, actually put out black smoke on the track. I thought it was a bit rich given the black smoke but it otherwise ran fine and it should have been safe from detonation. I later changed the exhaust to the Random Tech High Flow Cats and the Corsa cat back exhaust (smaller diameter versions so as not to reduce boost because of too low a back pressure), the A/F went to about 12.1 at its leanest on the dyno. The exhaust leaned out the car some as expected. Still should have been ok but maybe it was too lean.

I don't have a swinging oil pickup but I'm definitely putting one on the next engine. My best guess at this time based on not knowing what the inside of the engine looks like are that high speed turns starved the engine of oil at some points on the track. Pocono is a very high speed track and a couple of the oval turns are also high speed. This may have led to bearing failure and then rod failure.

Once the engine is torn down we'll look for signs of detonation. If there are no signs then I'll assume the oil pickup is the problem. If there are signs of detonation then I'll relook at A/F. By the way the installer had a much larger intercooler fabricated to replace the one provided by Paxton. The Paxton one is the size of an oil cooler and would probably overheat after a lap or two. I'd recommend this type upgrade for everyone that puts in a Paxton. I think Doug Levin sells bigger ones.

I'll post the results of the tear down when I know them.

We had a couple of Vipers with blown engines on the Monday session at Pocono. There was a copper head SRT that blew its engine too but it was NA I believe. It seems to happen every year unfortunately.

Yea, I was the first Viper to blow up at CSD. The Copperhead blew a little while later. I thought I heard someone say the Copperhead missed an up shift and over revved the engine. Is that true or just hearsay?

I don't know what caused it...when I went through the infield I saw the copper head off to the side before it was towed in. I didn't ask the owner what happened because he seemed to be dealing with it and probably didn't need me asking a lot of questions. Scott the Viper Tech would know but I heard him say spun bearing. That track seems to eat SRT's...is it mostly due to the oil starvation around those banking turns? I was watching my oil pressure gauge every chance I got and it was fine all day. Your Viper sounded mean...and looked great on the long straight. I got a chance to see pass a few Vipers before the engine gave out. :(

The stock connecting rod bearings are, well... Lets just say they are round. King is the only manufacturer that produces a quality replacement bearing for the Gen. III and I believe Gen. IV connecting rods.
