Searched the illustrated upgrades section and couldn't find one.

Need to remove my S/C (check for airleaks or loose intake bolts) and reinstall. I can turn a wrench but have never removed or installed a Roe. Anyone have pics or illustration?

TIA

You can trying giving Sean Roe a call at Roe Racing. He's pretty good about sharing instructions.

I may ask why you need to check for that? You start with taking the intake tubes off and then you can pull the injectors. After that you can get at all the bolts holding down the blower. There is one in the center under the rear intake port. Getting the blower loose can be a pain depending what was used to seal it. You should be able to have it off in less than an hour.

I keep throwing the code for MAP sensor. I have replaced all of the vacuum hoses under the hood and installed a new MAP sensor. I have consulted with Sean Roe and with Joe Donovan at PBJ. Everyone is pretty much at a loss for what's going on. I also get some noise that sounds like detonation in 4th, 5th and 6th gears under a heavy load. But there are NO signs of detonation on the spark plugs. I have tried several different SOFT tunes..... with w/m, without w/m. Same noise all the time, never any signs of detonation. No idea what's causing either of these symptoms.:dunno:

Joe saw a similar situation once before and the car owner found loose bolts in the intake when he pulled the S/C. It was losing pressure/leaking at the intake under boost. Joe can't get me in for a while so I am thinking of pulling it myself and seeing what I find.

REDSNAKE...

DUH... Have you forgotten about Justin?... JMB Performance???....
Record hp builder/owner for SRT trucks etc.... :dunno:

Remember, Justin the one that stepped up and did a great job on mine when PBJ didn't have time for me either.
(FWIW... That's how it starts down on Hampton...:rolleyes:)

Isn't that right MARTYB?

Seriously Tim, Call Justin

Who did the install originally Redsnake?

Marty, as far as I know the original owner installed the Roe. It was on the car when I bought it. I stepped it up from 8 pound to 10 pounds of boost had w/m installed.

Are you losing power?

I haven't had it on the dyno since I noticed the "detonation" type noise. And I want to do this job myself. Just looking for some illustrated assistance since I've never done it before. :2tu:

Its not a tough job at all. I was just in town last week for a few days and had some free time. I wish I would have known and I could have come over and helped you out. I have the install instructions from Roe if that would help you.

My experience is that if it sounds like it could be detonation it usually is. Mine sounded like a spray of rocks on the exhaust. There were no obvious signs of detonation on the plugs, but putting some race gas in the tank eliminated the mystery noise completely and confirmed that was in fact detonation.

The install instructions would be great. I'll pm you. Thanks!

It sounds just like detonation but there are no signs on any of the 10 plugs. :dunno: Can't hear it at all in the first 3 gears but it's there if I stand on the throttle in 4th, 5th or 6th while moving at lower speed. I'm at a loss and checking everything I can at this point. I'll try some race gas but I don't think it'll make any difference. As I said before, I've tried running a real soft tune and it didn't help.

I have the same problem getting the low voltage map sensor code. I put more fuel in mine to stop the detonation but some times I still get the code. The different air and temp just keeps me from running a spot on tune with my car I have to be on the rich side then no problems. I would like to know what makes the low voltage map sensor code?

I had similar issues when I had my Roe. I thought it was a bad MAP sensor and replaced it but it kept doing the same thing. I figured out later that it was because it was not tightly mounted. With the Roe tubes in the way the MAP is only strapped on with zip ties. Make sure those are tight and the sensor can't vibrate. With your detonation it sounds like maybe your tune is too aggressive. I had a 10lb pulley without any W/M and I had no pinging at all. Although when I had MAP sensor issues no matter what I did it would detonate.

So do you think I should try another tune with more fuel thrown at it?

Ah, I'll definitely try that. My map sensor is on a real short hose and is just hanging loosely. I had no idea that vibrations could cause any issues. I'll try hard mounting it an see what happens. Thanks for the info.:2tu:

Tim,

Did this start happening with a new tune, or have you been running on the same tune and all of the sudden you started throwing the code?

Also, is it possible to hear detonation, but have no sign of detonation on the plugs? I always thought it would appear on the plugs before you could hear it rearing its ugly head?

It has been throwing the code since I got the car (with all different tunes in it). It only throws the code when I blip the throttle to downshift.

I just started hearing the detonation type sound over the winter when it got real cold. But it's still doing it now since it has warmed up too.

I am not sure if the code/detonation issue is related. I am not even sure if I have detonation. As I said, there is no evidence on the plugs. It is possible the I am hearing something in the drive train.:dunno:I am just not real sure.

At this point my plan is
1) secure the MAP sensor firmly to the firewall to eliminate that as a possible source
2) run some race gas thru the tank to see if I can kill the detonation type noise
3) pull the S/C and check for loose intake if 1 & 2 doesn't tell me anything

Can you post a picture how it is secured?

Dumb question but are you running a Vec and, if so, have you logged any pulls through the Vec? You may be able to pinpoint what's going on with the data from the logs or send the logs to a tuner to review. Also, I'm just guessing here, but if the intake were loose wouldn't the boost gauge be reading lower than normal and/or the MAP sensor data show radical fluctuations as well? :dunno:

Good points. I am running a VEC 2 but I have no data logging. Martyb pm'd me about checking the boost. I'll check that out. I haven't noticed any loss in boost pressure but I haven't been watching real close either. Good thing to check.:2tu:

Check your voltage as well. Low voltage could be a cause of detonation as well, especially if you have a boost a pump.

might not be a bad idea to just go to the autoparts store and grab a guage. Just attach to the fuel line on the front of the engine and tape to the windsheild. The pump that Joe put in my car was a Walbro 255, don't remember the exact model number, but Walbro is no longer shipping them because the failure rate was like 40%. Mine lasted a few months until I replaced it. I would do this before I started removing the blower.

mine was doing this a lot when I started tuning it
it only does it very rarely now
it usually happens when I do a hard pull and then let off abruptly
I just clear the code with my scanner but I've never related it to detonation or running poorly in any way
I also just have mine ziptied near the firewall
I thought it was a bad MAP all along and I was just waiting for it to go out, but then it stopped throwing the code so I haven't worried about it lately
good to know what the possible cause is :2tu:

Check your voltage as well. Low voltage could be a cause of detonation as well, especially if you have a boost a pump.

Could you elaborate on this? Are you saying that fuel pump voltage may be low and causing a lean condition or that the BAP is taking the voltage of the whole system down and affecting other electronics?
