My Viper regularly got MUCH lower emissions readings than my older Honda Civic did, I was surprised when I first saw that.
But in the same way that gas guzzler taxes are skewed, C02 taxes are poor solution because specialty/performance cars are rarely daily drivers. And in reality you could have a 15 year old Ford minivan driven daily in a long commute that is using up 10 times the gas and producing 10 times the smog as your average Viper, and there is no accounting for it.
