Just got off the phone with MD international raceway and they told me I could not run my 2008 convertible down the track faster than 13.49 w/o a roll cage. Are they seriously enforcing this?

Does IHRA not have an equivalent to the NHRA "pure stock" rule?

Got thrown out once at Fontana for running faster than 11.50 w/o a cage, not 13.50 though. But not sure about the convertible rule.

I had an 08 convertible with the Snakeoyl roll bar and six point harness and they certified it down to 10.00 at two different tracks. I had a helmet and fire jacket and never questioned it. Guess it depends on the track.

I gave it a try. Ran 11.82 and they shut me down after that.

Great question.

What roll bars did you guys go with?

Anybody know what is needed for a convertible below 10 seconds?

It also depends on whose working at the track that particular night, whose driving the Viper and if other drivers are complaining to the powers to be about them having to conform and the Viper (usually sticks out )getting away with it.

1,200 HP? ;)

Thats too funny.

My car should be more than that.

I am definitely going with the rollbar for the street.

I just am not sure what I should do for the track because the car will still be street driven. Just haven't decided.

There are the formal NHRA rules:
http://www.nhra.com/competition/etquickref.aspx

But it often comes down to the particular track, and the session.
Up until recently the rule for convertibles was that they were restricted to run slower than 13.99, and 11.99 with a roll cage, this was amended to 13.49 and 11.49 with a roll cage (which often just having a roll bar works.

I found that if you go to the track during the daytime for test and tune, they will let it slide much more. But during peak busy evenings with the crowds they will usually hold a tougher line, giving you a warning, and kicking you off the track if you do it twice. But sometimes you can do 2-3 slower runs and then a quick one again and they won't catch it.

All in all if you put NT on the window (time is not POSTED on the run clock )draws alot less attention to the Viper .May get few more runs in

I participated in two private track rentals at MIR in late 2008 and early 2009. There were about 10-12 cars at each event. I ran an 11.52 at the last one and they never said a thing.
If you are there at competitions and test & tunes then they probably are going to hassle you. Just get some buddies and rent the track. As I remember it's about $1,200 to rent one lane all day during the week. Definitely worth it. Best prepped track in DC.
