Just installed 2" lowering kit, gotta pull it out, argh

I'm 6'3" about 195lbs, pretty equal distribution on my height, legs to body.

Stock puts me kinda high in the windshield view, so i got a 2" lowering kit from Snake Oyl & was really looking forward to the results.

Installed it today, pretty easy since I have a vert, took maybe 90 mins & that was taking my time & with a little break. Kit seems nice, simple & stable.

I fit better in the seat now for my back, very comfortable against the seat & way less wind buffeting on me, so upper body is great.

Problem - now I have no leg room. The kit places the seat quite a bit farther forward, I didn't realize it would do this. So I'm totally jammed up in the tunnel, we I come off the clutch it's almost impossible to keep my knee from jamming the steering wheel, both knees have to sprawl all the way out to even fit.

I'm so bummed. One cause I was really looking forward to an improvement, and Two cause now I gotta reverse the whole thing and remove it, argh.

Anyone know how the 1" lowering kit is? Does it allow the seat to go back to the rear most position?

Does that kit you installed still allow for seat fore/aft adjustment? I'm considering a lowering kit for mine but I still want the ability to adjust the length back and forth.

Odd you mention this as I have been thinking about changing mine as well - so it will be interesting to hear the feedback on the 1" drop vs. the 2" drop kit. Stock was definitely too high as my eye level was at about the top of the windshield, but I did not seem to notice a loss of legroom - especially with adjusting the pedals all the way in. I also have the 2" drop, and at times it feels a bit low. Rather than dump the kit, I was thinking about adding 1/2" - 3/4" of washers to the rear and bumping up the front some as well to provide additional knee support.

No, the 2" lowering kit is fixed. I had assumed it would be in the fartherest back position, but it looks to be 2" farther forward than the passenger seat.

If the 1" kit will slide all the way back like stock, I'd probably try it versus switching all the way back to stock.

I've had the 1" kit on my '06 Coupe and now my '08 Coupe - I really like it much better than stock!

Like you, I was looking out of the top of my windshield (stock). The 1" kit makes a substantial difference, and I still have plenty of legroom.:headbang:

As stated above the 2" lowering kit moves the seat forward and 2" down. I am 6'2" and was not expecting this either, I also had assumed that I would be all of the way back. Lack of adjustability is not great for my wife who is substantially shorter (nothing boost pillows can't fix)

For me it is an acceptable situation. While I can't extend my legs out as far and my knees are now located above my hips (which isn't a great situation if you have back problems) for me it is a pretty strong racing/track position and accepatable on 2-3 hour trips (have not taken a longer trip yet).

Hope a 1" kit works better and am interested in hearing about the results.

Yes , the 1 inch kit is capable of sliding the seat all the way back. Just had it installed on my'09. I still prefer the 2 inch though like on my '05. Would rather have better vision than leg room. I'm 6'3" and have good leg room but I am longer in the torso than legs.
The 1 inch kit on the '09 is a big improvement over stock but not better than 2 inch IMHO.

The reason the 2" moves foreword is the slope of the bulkhead behind the seat. How would you get to the bolts in the rear if it went all the way back? The 1" will slide out of the way for this which makes it easier. I have the 2" and hate the leg room also, but I NEED the headroom so I just raised the front mounts a little for the leg support and it is much better.

I drove the car for 4 hours and eventually got used to it but once I got in the city and had to start working clutch and break more I found it to be very uncomfortable with my knees way up higher than before. So I gained 2 inches of headroom and now I can see traffic lights at stops without craning but I have lost a significant amount of horizontal leg room even with pedals all the way down. Don't know that I will get used to this. Bummer.

It seems that the seat back does recline one more click than before when I had it in stock form in full slide back postition but it does not make up for the change imo. I found that if I try jam my rear end all the way back, pretty much sitting on the lumbar section of the seat it helps. Only time will tell. At this point I am wishing that I had gone with the 1" kit or at least had sat in one with the 2" kit prior to purchase/install.

I installed the 2" kit, and found the same thing - it moves the seat forward. It seems as if there isn't much choice, if it didn't move the seat forward you couldn't install it.

I have unique issues, and really need the legroom, so traded for the 1" kit. For me this was a reasonable compromise, because the 2" kit gets the height about right, but the 1" allows the seat to move back all the way.

I wonder if a kit could be made where a bar could be mounted to the floor, then a guide onto the seat. That way you could bolt the back bar down, slide the seat onto it, then install the front bolts. The front bolts would hold the fore/aft movement, and the rear would hold vertically and side to side. The seat would have nowhere to go.:dunno:

Been a while since I installed mine, so I don't remember how the kit looked exactly.

Yep, I have the same feeling. I'm waiting thru my frustration, then will re-evaluate with a level head. I do wish I knew it moved the seat fwd like this & I'd have known not even to consider it. Oh well, but that's why I wanted to post so folks can learn from my bummer. :)

I may try playing with washers as spacers on the front to try to raise the seat some, but I predict spending more $ and having to move to the 1" kit.

I just took some aluminum flat stock about 3" long 1.5" wide and bent a small offset in the middle. Drill new bolt holes and raised the front about 2". Now with the leg support the 2" is bearable but was not at all without. I don't have pictures but if you look at the front mounts and take the bolts out, raise the front of the seat and see the shape and length of piece you need it is very simple to build. You could probably even slot the hole for more finite adjustment.

Wait maybe I should build this :confused: uh forget what I said I'll get back to you when I have something to sell :lmao:

The easy fix is to just cut your leggs off.... j/k :D

Try the 1" kit. If that doesn't work, get a Race Seat.

I'm 6'2" and about 190lbs.

I installed the 1" kit and am fairly happy with it.

The sitting position is excellent - very, very happy.

I do notice some flex in the seat rails - but only at the track.

The adjustment lever needed to bent to work properly and it's still a fuss to adjust. I must get out of the car to adjust it.

DMan,

You should try shimming the front seat bolts up a bit as Mark stated.

I think you'll be surprised at how much difference a 1/2 inch or so will make in increased leg room and you can keep the head room of the two inch kit.

I had to do this with another car and it worked well.

You must be long legged as I fit very well in my 09 ACR with the 2 inch kit and am 6'4", 250 with a 34 inch inseam.
