Hello all,,
I am out on the hunt for my next Viper. While looking I came across a beautiful black example but one part of the engine bay was badly scratched. I mean really bad, several scratches concentrated in one area. They were on the beam that runs across. (Red part circled in picture) Note the one in the picture is not the car I am looking at - just an example. Of further concern is when I looked at the hood pad right above the scratches there was a big hole that looked like it was burnt through. Something must have been mounted on that beam that burnt a hole in the pad. Supercharger or turbo??? Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Well that is where my motons are mounted and they are rubbing a hole in the hood....not sure if there is any scratches underneath them and besides you would think the scratches would be bilateral...

Roanoke puts decals with the Roanoke name on the passenger side and their 800 number on the drivers side, perhaps someone scratched it removing them? That does not explain the hood though.

Somebody tried to jumpstart the car??..... and "that big chunk of metal looks like a great ground if I can only scrap away the paint with the jumper cable jaws"

I think lot monkeys cause more damage to cars than anyone knows.

Cheers,
George

There is nothing attached to that beam when a Paxton is installed. My vote would go for the Motons, typical mounting location. Previous owner probably removed them to sell them separately or to put on another Viper. Not sure why only one side is scratched though, that's weird.

Only one side has the hole wearing (or burnt) through the hood pad. Very strange.

Sounds like the owner had a battery charger on and closed the hood on top of the clamps which could of caused the punctured hood pad.

My guess is Moton cannisters also. That is why I put my brackets together. I couldnt stand the thought of mounting the cannisters with zip ties to the cross brace. The cannister will rub the hood pad a bit.

Actually only one side of the

motons is wearing a hole in my hood
