Does your SRT bring you "Rockstar" treatment?

I posted this question to the guys at the GTS/RT-10 area in one of my threads. More than likely, I will be buying a 97 gts or an 04 srt-10 extremely soon. Looks are subjective and that is something that I am debating. But the "Rockstar" effect I am curious about. The GTS and the term "Rockstar" go hand and hand. Has anyone here with there SRT-10 vert got the love that the good ol' GTS still gets? I just think that it is really cool when people appreciate a great American machine and ask tons of questions about it. I have heard a few talk about it, but I am interested in hearing more. I am really trying to compare the GTS to the SRT-10 vert since these are the 2 cars that I have it narrowed down to. When you guys take your SRT to get gas, do people ask you about your car? At car shows, are you the main attraction? (Note: Los Angeles residents, a viper there is probably a civic, so I am not expecting too much from areas like that)

Can't go anywhere in my SRT-10 without getting questions, stares, thumbs up, people asking to take pictures or literally yelling remarks out of their car windows about the car. I think the "Rockstar" effect happens with all Vipers.

As for car shows, my bone stock Viper won Best 1990-2008 car in a car show last year.

If you're looking for attention, any Viper will do.

Ditto. Any Viper gets attention but the SRTs are better cars.

Yes, if you own a Viper (doesn't matter which Gen)...you WILL get the 'whiplash' looks, thumbs-up, questions at the gas station (as one frequents it, well--frequently, lol)...there is NO bad Viper out there. Yes, our SRT is the main attraction wherever we go. (We used to have the 2005 Black SRT, and a 2008 GTS Blue w/silver striped SRT...both verts) Good Luck with your decision~! Can't go wrong with either of your choices~~~~juli

SRTs ARE better cars overall. Hands down. But looks-wise... you'll never hear a GTS owner say "pictures just don't do it justice."

Can't go wrong with either, but I don't plan on ever trading in my gts for an srt. Having BOTH, yes... but if I can only have one, it's GTS or nothing! :2tu:

Having owned both (esp when the first GTS came out )the SRTs dont have quite the GAWK factor of the GTS but are a better complete car .

from what i have seen all vipers get a lot of attention...they didn't make very many of any gen so there is always a rarity feel when driving one!!

People really seem to like how the SRTs don't look so "dated"...while I agree with them, the GTS is certainly nothing to balk at. In fact, IMO, it will be the GTS people refer to when referencing the Viper 30 years from now.

I just had to have a convertible, and for me, that is half of the Viper experience...you generally can't get that much top-down style, power and rarity in the same package as the SRTs.

Ive had a gen II and III both open tops. Either way youll be getting more attention than you want. Next car will definetly be a hardtop with dark tints.

Ok, Mommy. Give the guy a break. Can't you see he needs to get laid?

That's funny I was thinking exactly what Plum said, but it sounds like you nit the nail on the "head" (uh....no pun intended.......well maybe).

My guess is that they can relate to the Challenger while the outrageous SRT with wing and all, ****** them off.

Maybe I'm getting too used to the bad assness of Viper ownership, but all these thumbs up and whip lash looks everyone describes...I am not seeing them. I have my car, it's bad ass, I love it and that's why I have it.

Don't buy a car for anyone except yourself.

I totally agree - buy the car that causes you to give yourself a thumbs up every time you open the garage. This is my first post here. I just bought my first viper this week - in fact it has not even arrived from the east coast yet. It's a blue 2006 coupe with the white stripes and blue accented interior. I can't even sleep in anticipation of seeing my car drive off the transport truck!

I've owned 5 vipers, 4 GTS and my current 08 and yes, they all get attention. However, if you are looking for the "rockstar" effect I suggest getting a Diablo. When I have driven the vipers people do stare but when I drive the Diablo people shout.

That's because the gen1-2 were made to look retro... it looks dated ON PURPOSE. Nothing on the street looks like it. The gen3 and on started looking like a bunch of other cars. "Current" is the word to describe Gen3-4... in 5-10 years they will look dated.

Gen 1-2's are timeless.

My Lambo Muci gets crazy attention! To the point where it gets a little anoying. If you stop it is over. I have to say the SRT coupe is just as pretty as a GTS. Especialy lowered and with some stripes. I think the SRT coupe is a little better looking than the GTS. I loved my GTS, but I like the new coupes.

The GTS was the perfect car for me;

until it was totalled. didn't want another one because i would HAVE to have the EXACT same one! Never cared for the srt but i needed a viper so i got an'03 vert(couldn't afford new coupe at the time). the srt has grown on me.

after owning a gts you'll notice some little things that annoyed you, that the SRT fixed. then again i doubt you'll spend countless hours studying the bodylines of a vert like the GTS lol! If you're concerned with everyone elses perception of your car, you won't be disappointed with either. people have stopped me, taken pics, etc everyday. same with both cars. only twice have i had someone tell me they like the GTS and not current SRT(i'm sure most actually feel that way,but with our cars being rare, they opt to just appreciate it). i responded stating that i agree, which is why i had a GTS before the SRT:)

When I had my FE 2002 viper I got alot more attention than I do with current 08.Probably the red with white shows up a mile away on the road. Now with a softer more subtle color I find I don't get as much notice.(violet/silver)Which is fine by me.

But all in all the GTS was great, but the SRT is a much improved car.The GTS is probably what people in general think about when they hear the word viper. But it is dated and things change and I just moved on to bigger( motor,HP,torque) and better and never looked back.

Just my .02

I was at a car show today (first one ever) and the only viper there.Took second place.Lost to PT Cruiser.Go figure.

And driving back home saw a blue/white 96 GTS.Still made ME look.

In order of head-turning (I've had almost every combo) first to last:

SRT coupe/GTS is a tie, SRT vert, then RT

HOWEVER, with any exotic you'll most likely get the most attention from 18-35 year old dudes. I've noticed most women could care less, as long as they thought you had money lol.

I took a quick ride into Chicago this weekend and was amazed at how many people raced up behind and along side of me just to give me a thumbs up. One guy literally scared the ****z out of me when he came up so fast and so hard in his newer Dodge Magnum. The thumbs up and the stares were almost comical.

I'd say that it's just a car ..... But a Viper is an OBSESSION!
