I'm going to run the ACR in the 1 mile event down here in south florida on October 11th....

Where can I buy the tool needed to adjust the wing? Looks like I can move it one notch to reduce the downforce a little from the factory settings....

Any other tweaks? Ride height? Front splitter addition on or off? Tire pressures?

thanks!

You are going for top speed so the least amount of resistance possible is what you want. I'd say remove your wing and spliters because you're not so worried about traction on an open straight stretch. Those items are specifically for added traction and do cause speed to be lost. Your ACR should do fine without them. Good Luck at the event... :2tu::drive:

One hour south of me! I'm going to see if I can make it. Sounds awesome. Looks like about half of the cars competing are Corvette Z06's! LOL! I didn't see Viper with a quick skim through the list.

Harbor Freight betweenTaft/University has the entire star, hex, torx security tool kit. There are some other security bits with the 32 piece kit....all for under ten dollars.....they come in a small red slot box......

Ditto this for 1 mile run. Mark at Woodhouse should have the tool though. Good luck and be careful.

I used a dramel tool to hollow out the center of a hex wrench and it worked. I'd say center splitter off as you're reducing the downforce further. But I'd definitely drop the car to smooth track height.

see you there... I'm not going to remove the wing, would like to see what the ACR can do... I would be interesting to see how it runs with and without the wing, but not sure how just removing the rear wing would effect stability with the front splitter still on.... the manual says

"WARNING: Do not operate the vehicle with the rear wing removed. The aerodynamic balance of this setup is unstable and can cause the loss of control."

thanks, got the tool, adjusted the wing up 1.5 degrees to the least amount of downforce.....

If the car has added downforce on the front w/o any on the rear I see this imbalance as a problem during cornering as the rear will come around - resulting in the loss of control they mention. The mile event is as straight as you can get and the rear wheels will follow the front. I think you're fine removing the wing.

I can't tell from from your picture, but if you remove the front splitter extention, or if you never installed it, the removeal of the rear wing will have less of an effect on the the front downforce. you could also adjust the front splitter up a few turns to reduce the front downforce. (just keep track of the number of turns to return to stock).
It would be Very interesting to do a run with the wing, and then without it!!! Goodluck, Keep us posted orf the results. :drive: Tim 09ACR

i went to a top speed airfield run with Nadine a few years ago, she was driving her GTS with a Dodge GT2 wing at the time, after several runs the wing was removed and
*** gained an extra 7mph

I ran the car 3 times and the GPS said 171-173 MPH, they had radar out there, but it was all over the place with regards to speeds, the first time I think it said I was going 120MPH.... :)

The car really seems to struggle when approaching 170MPH, I figured the wing was really slowing the car down, so I ran the car a 4th time with the rear wing removed. As I passed 150MPH the car became quite a handful, the rear of the car was bouncing and the car felt unstable. I let off and aborted the run.....

yep, it put down 604HP to the wheels..... I've only seen one ACR top speed test, and it was aero/drag limited to 175MPH, and that's with a lot more room to run than 1 mile.

The car was still put pulling at 174MPH, it will go quicker with more room, 1 mile comes up pretty quick.....

we needed a regular coupe out there to compare against the ACR...... out of 120+ cars, I was the only Viper running? bleh...

Hi. What was the temperature out there at the time you ran? Yesterday was a record high temp. See data below. And what effect, if any, might it have had on engine performance and air flow over the car?

I imagine you could take the the front splitter off and the rear wing and you would be able to see what it could really do. I am surprised it felt squirrely without the wing and no splitter extension as ACR splitter without the extension isn't really much bigger than the splitter on my ZR1 and it has no rear spoiler to speak of. I have drag raced my ACR with and without my wing without any difference in speed or et and I couldn't notice any difference in handling of course because I was going in a straight line.

There is another thread on here somewhere that says removing the splitter on the 08/09 ACR is difficult at best because they used an adhesive in addition to rivets to secure it to the car.

could it be the different springs/shock settings in the rear that are spec'd to have that downforce applied by the wing at higher speeds? 130MPH was fine, it was after 150MPH that it started feeling different...

My goal is 170, anything over that is gravy. Top of 4th is supposed to be 165, so it should be possible. We'll find out.

Oh but for the record and warranty reasons, I won't be using my car, just one that looks an aweful lot like it!

I was there with a group fo guys at the 3/4 mile marker, one guy had a radar gun. I remember your car in the 170s. ZR1s were going low 180s.
A friend of mine with 530 rwhp "old" 90 ZR1 did 181mph.
I would think a Viper with 600+ rwhp would be in the 180s also...

Did you see the TT GT that run 216 mph? It did it on MTs drag radiasl 345s. Also the Supra that went 215 mph did it on 315s MTs DRs as well.

thanks for the info.... here is a video of my first run, I shifted into 5th as I passed the person taking the video, about 3/4 mile mark, so at that point I was at 165MPH with a bit more room to gain more speed....

I'm sure it would go much faster without all of the downforce and drag from the aero parts.... I saw the TT and supra, thought I would see you running.... next time?
