And Go back to the drag strip!!!!!!!

I sincerely beleave that Dodge is letting the Viper go out in style..

they are talking about a new 5th gear that lets the 2010 Viper get to 202 mph 15 seconds faster than a 2009 viper..And raises the 2009 ACR's top speed from 177 mpg to 183 mph for the 2010 ACR..

IT JUST WOULDNT SURPRISE ME TOO MUCH IF THE 2010'S DYNO 560ISH ON AVERAGE INSTEAD OF 540ISH...

Dodge is claiming a hole lot of added performance off a simple 5th gear ratio change that seems very slight anyway at .73 for the 09's to .79 for the 2010's...

I know money is a issue...And dont really expect you to do this...But I think beating the ZR1's 10.7 at 132 might be worth another shot in a 2010 Viper..

Dodge has to have somthing more up their sleave to make these claims than just a small 5th gear ratio change..

Going from 177 to 183 mph top speed in an ACR is HUGE....

I'm confused on one thing with that, wouldn't the new gear ratio that let's it get to 202, 15 seconds faster, mean that it would lower the top speed? How does a gear change raise the top speed AND acceleration? Can someone edumacate me on that?

We still have yet to hear if there have been any significant performance changes to the 2010. I'm guessing that there have been some tweaks done to the PCM and possibly a minor exhaust change resulting in an UNDERRATED 600 HP and the better numbers.

We have got to get you some practical experiance at the drag strip as there is no way in the world some 5th gear tranny change is going to make up 2 tenths and close to 4 mph trap speed in the quarter. To put in in perspective Gen 4s with the full Bellinger system and Mopar PCMS are trapping in the range of stock Zr-1s.

Guys..the point im trying to make is that I do not beleave they are telling the hole story....

15 seconds faster to 202 mph for the SRT10's and 6 mph faster top speed for the ACR's....Off such a slight 5th gear change seems to good to be true...

I think dodge is gonna pull out a rabbit and these 2010's are still only gonna be rated at 600 hp but actually dyno higher than the 08's and 09's..

I just really feel it..

ZR1 has trapped a best of 132 mph with jamie driving..ACR has trapped a best of 130 mph with jamie driving....

I have well over 1000 1/4 mile passes in vettes/camaros/nsx/vipers..So please dont insult me...I beleave their is "MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE" with these 2010's...

Please ,your grasping at straws .The Vette trapped 132.8 (close to 3 mph faster and 2 tenths ET )I dont mean to insult you but EVERY person on this forum that owns both a GEN 4 and a ZR-1 (including Jamie) has publicly stated the Vette is noticeably faster and thats a fact .As far as horsepower upgrades for 2010 ,if DODGE were to so much as change an air filter on the motor that would require a GOVT RECERTIFICATION and that cost millions .

The top speed change on the ACR is most likely related totally to the change in the rear wing design

Then with all of that experience why don't YOU buy one and show those ZR1 boys how it is done when the 2010’s come out? Honestly who cares, they are both awesome cars!! Also with a 1000+ runs I would assume you knew 5th would have no bearing on the ¼ mile correct? As everyone else said, the lucky ones that own both (2009’s) say the ZR1 is a faster car, plain and simple, cant dispute that can you? Anyhow it really is going to depend on the driver at that point (Which is well beyond my abilities).

As far as "believing there is more than meets the eye" that there will be upgrades to the 2010's I can’t see it happening either due to financial constraints being the most apparent, though my thoughts are just based on common sense........are yours possibly due to ownership pride and just not wanting to admit the ZR1 is faster?

Either way, when the 2010's are out we will know for sure and the chips will fall wherever they fall.........I certainly wouldn’t refuse either car if they were given to me!! :D

Very well put .My 08 Roadster has one of the best times EVER recorded for a stock Viper (11.3 at 129.7 )and i have got to tell you there aint no way in hell a 5th gear tranny change is going to enable that car (no matter the driver ,air ,track ect )to run faster than 10.7 (Z-1S RECORD )As other have posted with a 3.07 rear fifth gear is not revelant at the strip.

Wow. No comments on Twisters assumptions...

Anyway, here is some info from Ralph that highlights the tweaks they're making to the 2010 for those interested.

Im standing by my guns...I beleave SRT has made some minor tweaks..Imagine just the "slightest" pcm change ect. We all know how easy these cars make power..

A 97 nsx is rated at 290HP..A 2002 nsx is rated at 290 HP..But the 2002 dynos 20 rwhp higher than the 97 is will smoke it at the drags..

The point is that it has been done before...

I personally beleave that a lot of 2009 owners will be pissed at me...And yes maybe I am blinded by viper pride...

But I cant fight this gut feeling...

Where had it been done before in relation to VIPERS(not NSXS ECT ) please DEAL IN FACTS NOT HYPOTHETHICALS..Of all the thousands of runs EVER conducted by Gen 4s down dragstrips ONE PERSON and one person only has run 10s one time.Personally my Vipers with 550-575 RWHP have made over 500 runs (at least )down the dragstrip at ENGLISHTOWN (known to be one of the fastest tracks in the country )driven by the best of the best (NHRA MULTIPLE RECORD HOLDERS Evan Smith ,Jamie Furman,Kenny Miele Darren Buhler ,Don Nace JR )and not one of MY Vipers EVER broke 10s on stock tires.Iam telling you your DREAMING if you think a simple tranny FIFTH gear change is going to enable a 10.7s or better run stock.

LOL i hear this stuff and i shutter .Not for anything but the effort i have spent (TIME AND MONEY )over the years on the above was crazy.People come on the board with the theorys predicated upon no actual experiance running Vipers and it drives me nuts because i learned the hard way just how tough it is to crack 10s (never mind )10.7s on Pilots.SO SO MANY factors (besides power involved )DRIVER ,WEATHER,TRACK ECT ECT .

The car is still in "continous" developement. So its probably best to put this thread on pause for the mean time.

Here's what I figgered so far (fact)...the Vert will still be the fastest Viper around...and mine in particular (formerly Jamie Furman's), the fastest of the lot. Even though I don't drag race, I still have the one that broke the world's record. Think I'll just sit this one out for now.

The Devon GTX is powered by the same 8.4 liter Viper engine, but the power output has been increased to 650hp. This car also has a rear wing, and is most likely lighter than the ACR. But heres the BIG thing. The Devon GTX also runs on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, and yet this new 2010 ACR beat that car at laguna seca by 2 seconds. Which tells me theres got to be more than just a gear change, and a new rear wing. Another words, this new ACR has to be making more power..
