Lets just hope they offer any ACR at all in the future since production ends after the 274 cars planned to be built in 2010.

If Dodge came out with an ACR option convertible, who'd be interested?

I would be very interested.

In our region (Pacific NW), I am only aware of one club (BMW CCA) that has a uniform ban on convertibles. Most other clubs in our region (Cascade, Team Continental, BMW ACA, OR PCA etc.) allow convertibles at DE and HPDE events as long as the car has legitimate rollover protection. For my 2008, this meant the installation of an Autoform rollbar and a 1 inch lowering kit from Northwind Engineering to meet the 1 inch "broomstick test" of measuring a striaght line from the top of the rollbar to the top of the windshield frame. There must be at least 1'' clearance from this line to the top of one's helmet or you get sent home.

Also, I have to say that--for me at least--the fun and thrill of an HPDE is magnified many times by the open air experience. There's just nothing like it; it's like driving a modern day 427 Cobra.

If the SRT Engineers can’t handle it, then there is no money to spend on any design whatsoever on the car. Lets just change colors every year and be done with it.[/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT]

I asked the SRT engineers about roll bars and they ran for the hills! :D

Seems more like a legal issue than an engineering one. Maybe Herb can chime in on this.

While I personally would never buy an ACR convertible. Convertibles are OK for the track. Not unless you are a serious semi pro racer in real competition, then maybe you may not want one. But are you guys forgetting how many Boxsters, Spec Miata's, S2000's etc... are running in the SCCA? LOTS! and as long as you have the correct roll over protection, you are just as good, and usually a lot better then a coupe with no roll over protection.

Like someone else said, Ferrari did it with the F430 Scuderia 16M. I would say the car is more of a race car then an ACR (forgetting the price). I mean for the typical guy track guy who street drives his car and does some DE's, are you honestly saying you cannot have a properly made convertible on the track and still be ok or safe? come on! the answer is yes! Let's all not act like every weekend we drive in the Le Mans GTS series. Again, would I ever buy an ACR convertible. NO!

Until you've been at the track in a fairly "simple" incident that left someone you care about hanging upside down, you likely won't understand the need for a lid at track events.

Stuff can go wrong quickly at the 165 MPH speeds the Viper routinely sees. You should want every bit of protection you can get.

Exactly! Everyone is concentrating on the rollover protection from getting your neck broken, but what about debris flying through the air at over 100 mph that can kill you as well. Debris you would otherwise be protected from with a roof. And I have to laugh at the picture of the 1965 Shelby Cobra. Yeah, nothing has changed since then. :rolleyes:

I am just curious what you think a Viper Coupe's roof would do for you in a high speed rollover.

True it is more than nothing as on a convertible, but not enough to really mean much if you are going over 60 mph....

If a Viper is running over 100 when it rolls I don't think that the coupe's roof would do enough to make a difference.

A roll bar is not an option but a necessity for anyone running on the track, vert or coupe.

I think everyone understands that a coupe is safer than a vert on the track. Let's put it like this...would you rather have the aero working with an ACR vert, or just go out in an SRT-10 vert and turn corners at 100+? Isn't that downforce a good thing? I suppose that you could put a top on it like they do (or used to do) in Viper Days, then go ******* on the street.
