Maybe it's blasphemy, maybe it's not, but I'm toying with the idea of updating every Sneaky Pete on my car for Fangs (where possible). That would include valve covers (with spacers), the hood emblem, the hood badges, the gas cap door (I have MGW), the bumper badges, the third brake light (if it's a direct replacement) and anything else that can be gotten to with relative ease.

I like symmetry and for more than one reason dig Fangs more than Pete from an aesthetic point of view, even though Sneaky Pete holds a place near and dear to my heart. Has anyone undergone this task? I think it would update the look of the car slightly and would look badass. Pics? Thoughts?

Bad idea :crazy2: but as Dave said: it is your car.

Don't expect that other people (or a potential buyer) will like it :eater:

Oh, and do not forget to paint a dolphin on the hood :D

:You said it.....Blasphemy :nono: I hope your joking. :crazy2:  If you going to change the badge's just make sure you turn fang upside down. That would make just as much sence. :smirk: And while you just paint it PINK

To a non Viper person (and to some Viper owners unfortunately)...they would have no clue...so, it could go either way?

But for grins, let's identify the logo branding placements that could be changed shall we?
1. fascia
2. center rear tail light
3. maybe change from Viper to SRT-10 Viper on rear bumber?
4. gas cap (if you have a logo on yours)
5. key (if one has this)
6. shifter (if you have a logo on yours)
7. steering wheel
8. center caps (if you have the stock rims)
9. valve covers
10. floor mats (if you have stock)
11. glove box door (if you have a logo on yours)
12. cig ligther (if you have a logo on yours)
13. anything else?

Updating the logos doesn't make "sence"?

The lines and design of the car are timeless; most of the non-Viper people that I run into think the car is brand new. The logo, however, looks like it came straight out of the late 80s/early 90s (which it did). The Fangs logo and wordmark does not. It's still clearly the Viper mark but has been updated to change with the times.

As Ryan said, most non-Viper people won't be able to tell the difference.

I didn't buy this car for potential resale. If I did I wouldn't have bought one as heavily modified as this one. If I wind up having to sell it, it's not going to a Barrett-Jackson snob who wants an all-original vehicle. No worries there.

What makes it so "wrong"? Why is the area that sacred? Throwing a 'Vette logo on there would be blasphemy; updating the marks doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Is it still blasphemy or the anti-Christ if you swap, say, a red badge for a silver one? Where is that line?

Guys with the new Chargers throw the old badging on there. Guys with other American muscle cars do the same, but do it to "lie" ("Cobra" logos on a GT, "Z06 logos on a C5, etc.). Other people shave the badges off for a cleaner look. Is that also against the purists' code as well? These questions are not rhetorical; if you have an answer, let's hear it.

Sniper, I don't want a Gen. III because they're ugly. I'm content with my GTS. The post is about badging, not the entire car. I should have made my original post/title more clear...my apologies.

For those of you that think that updating a logo is on par with the Dolphin Viper or painting it pink (I'm lookin' at you, Captain Spelling), then you are the purest of the pure. I pray for the poor sap that uses anything put a Mopar oil filter on his Viper because if this mob gets wind of that, it's all over.
Personally I think that people "interpreting" the logo all on their own is blasphemy. Putting stripes through it, modifying scale or color, locking up the mark with other words/characters...companies have brand standards for their logos for a reason, but a good number of owners butcher those standards for whatever reason. That ruins brand integrity, but using a Dodge-sanctioned interpretation of the mark doesn't seem to ruffle my feathers like it does others on here.

Baz has a decent idea...upgrading the vinyl stickers to the SRT stuff but keeping Sneaky Pete.

New rule: If you say "don't do it" try and back it up with at least ONE reason grounded in logic, not just some asinine opinion and a poorly-spelled jab about dolphins.

And for those of you that think THIS:

...you're a ********. Start your car in the garage and leave the door closed. You'll feel sleepy, but I promise you all will be fine.

Um. You asked our opinion. Yet it sounds like it does not matter. Or that you are mad that we are not encouraging you to proceed.

You in your last post gave all of the justification that you need for yourself to do it. So do it.

The key to your initial post is the last question...Thoughts?

You asked and you received...surely you knew that there would be a number of opinions against changing the badging from Pete to Fangs, you've been a member here for 2+ years :dunno:.

That's worse than when Corvette owners change their badges to different generations....it usually makes the owner appear ignorant.

I asked for opinions and hoped people would actually justify them rather than just shooting off-the-cuff remarks and making childish jabs. "DERF DERF DERF MIGHT AS WELL BE PINK DERF DERF!" If the conversation was a little more adult, I wouldn't have taken offense.

My "thoughts?" inquiry was aimed more at the logistics of the swap, rather than if the general population actually thought I should do it. I should have been more clear (that's sincere). Things like if the third brake light is a direct replacement, steering wheel, valve covers, etc.

I am definitely in the minority because I have thought of doing the same to my GTS. I don't think Pete goes with the car. Bad ass car-cartoon emblem. Never sat well with me. All of my Viper shirts have Fang on them
For now, my car is badgeless except the third light. I kinda like it when people circle the car trying to look for the name.
Do what you will, it IS your car. And it itsn't like it is permanent. Just keep the old ones.

Dude. Take a pill (that's sincere). Where are all of these off-the-cuff remarks and childish jabs? You make it sound like this thread is blooming with them. Overwhelming with replies to ruffle your feathers. It is more the opposite.

I don't have to justify an opinion that logos are sacred ground. The concept that it is my opinion is the justification. You're allowed to disagree with it, but that does not deny that my opinion is fact to me.

You are correct that this thread should have been titled something like How do you... or What parts does it...

No worries, still love ya man (that's sincere). :D

Switch from Sneaky Pete to Daffy Duck? Are you serious man?

Not worth the time or expense....especially since I like the Sneaky Pete logo a lot more....

If you don't like Sneaky Pete sell the Gen-2 GTS and get something you like the badges. Easy fix.

Sneaky Pete is THE SYMBOL for GEN-1 and GEN-2 cars.

Nothing else.

NEVER!

...if you find a spelling error you can keep it for free ...:D

Why not just put a FIAT badge on it? After all you DO have a degree in graphic arts right?

Leave PETE alone!

I've thought of doing the same thing, but the purist in me always shakes me back to leaving it alone. With that being said, I think it looks great and more up to date.

Seriously, it isn't like these cars are an appreciating asset.. It's a car folks, and its HIS car, just give your opinion without the flaming and we'd all be better off

I say YES do it..;)

Merry Christmas folks...:usa:

I say do it. I'd like to do it also. For those that ay they should not be touched, changed, or otherwise messed with, those cars better be bone stock with zero modification to make that claim. Switching wheels, or God forbid, performance modifications are sheer blasphemy compared to changing badges. It's not like you're marking the car an ACR when it isn't or anything.
