I recently bought a 2000 RT/10 after being Viperless for 3 years. A good friend of mine has decided to buy a 2001 Z06.

We used to drag race our old muscle cars furiously. I have a 68 Barracuda and he had a 69 Mach 1. We went back and forth for years.

I'm looking forward to having a buddy to make owning my Viper more interesting. I'm sure the Z06 will be a fun car to race against. Steve is an excellent stick shift racer.

Can't wait for summer now!

My car is stock but I plan on getting some exhaust from JonB and I'll call it good.

Thanks JonB, we spoke on the phone a couple weeks ago. I'll be in touch soon!

When Steve and I started racing our old muscle cars they ran high 12's. 3 years and $15,000 later we each we had 10 second street cars. LOL

We said we wouldn't do that again. Yeah right!

Here we go again.

You're faster stock, but his upgrade options will be plentiful and cheap. But in the end... the Viper still looks better. :D

I'm sure he will look for the easy and relatively inexpensive upgrades. I don't know much about the Z06 mods but they are quick cars. Plus their light.

I'll do air filters and exhaust. Other than that there really isn't much I can do without major cash. Not worth it to me. I have a ten second car already; don't need two.

It really shouldn't be too much of a contest, if the only mods he considers will be bolt-ons. He'll need forced induction, H/C, nitrous, or other high end mods to keep up with you in the 1/4mi.

I've had several Vettes. The last was a '02 Z06. It had a Vararam cold air intake, Kooks header, Borla exhaust, high flow cats, and a tune. At Beech Bend Raceway, the best I managed with that set-up was a 12.7@116. I later added a 75shot of happy gas and ran a best of 12.1@122. This was done on the stock tires with my crappy driving skills.

At the same track, my '97 GTS with smooth tubes, exhaust, and high flow cats, has run a best of 11.9@123. This was done on PS2s.

As a courtesy, you should make sure your friend verifies the piston rings have been replaced on his '01. The '01 Z06s had issues with high oil consumption rates, losing 1qt every 600 miles or so if driven aggressively. There is a TSB out on that problem that calls for the piston rings to be replaced.

Good luck! :2tu:

stock vs stock, you will have no issues, BUT the LS engines are easy and cheap to upgrade, and they run very well when modded.

Thanks for the info on the rings. I will pass it along. Might be too late tho!
