I found this on another forum, spoke with the person who posted everything, and got the okay to post it here.
Anyways, check this out, it's very cool.

This picture below shows a Dodge Viper with a factory alpine stereo. This unit comes stock in these vehicles. A lot of times this unit gets replaced with a similar replacement or a pop out screen.

This picture below displays a Double din touch screen with navigation, i pod interface, blue tooth and all the other great items it comes with an options it provides. Observe how the buttons and climate controls were relocated.

I asked "if you can make a template for this (so people can diy), you would make some serious cash."

Their response
unfortunately cant do a template. its all custom molding. depending on the radio brand you'll also have a differnet gap as well. plus pretty labor intensive as well. a lot has to be done not only to the dash but behind the radio as well. extend wires, plugs etc.

Why not just go with a single DIN with a pop out screen. Something like the Kenwood 819DVD. That's what I did in my 06 Coupe. Ipod hooks up and the on screen controls by Kenwood rival the ipod's for ease of use. Plays movies and you can listen to music with screen open or closed.

So does someone actually make that console panel, or is that just to tease us with what we could do ourselves if we owned a plastics manufacturing company?

It's really not that hard. My audio shop did it with no problem.

All he did was take the stock panel cut out the cross bar between the two sections and molded in the ashtray for the switches. You can tell by the bevel of the stock piece. That's difficult to replicate when you hand make one.

Pop out screens ****.
I have an Alpine CVA 1006 in my H1 which replaced the CVA 1000, and had a CVA 1005 in my Grand National.

GTSnake, I like the Defi's.

Well goes to show were all different, Sorry to say That's not a mod I would make :( I'm in the process of upgrading my Alpine unit, but I'm going the single Din motorised unit route :)

I installed the DEH_P790BT Premier into both my snake and my Stealth TT. I like the Sat,MP3,CD,ipod,Blue tooth that fits into a perfect little package.

I just installed a double Pioneer P8000BT into my Black Stealth TT because it was cheap and all they had left after 2 weeks of Blue tooth being the law. The double din was a design made for cars like the Stealth and many Daytona Turbo cars that came with the stock high-end Infinity stereo Cassette units with the CD unit underneath. The double unit looks kinda ugly and simple but it does save you needing to build a tray to fill the empty space created by installing 1 unit into a double hole. The trim is loose still and I may need to purchase a new trim ring.

Yeah, that's exactly why I went with a single DIN and pop out screen. Although there are more choices out there with Double DIN I didn't want to do any cutting if I didn't have to.

Yeah, that's the weakness of pop out screens. It's clear that the trend is towards double DIN but it's just not worth cutting things up IMO.

Maybe your problem is not the pop out screen but the fact that the failures were all Alpine. My research showed that the Kenwood is about the best out there. I've had zero issues with the unit and as I've said before the touch screen controls are fantastic for controlling your ipod or other inputs.

I completely agree, if there was a way to incorporate it with minimal modification to the dash (behind trim) so that if you wanted to go back to stock, it would be possible.

FYI, I'm still running the stock radio with a FM transmitter for the iPod (it *****) and my phone for navigation. :rolaugh:

Actually Alpine is one of the if not the highest rated cd players for vehicles. Kenwoods are up there but Alpines are known for their reliability, sound and quality. The only thing I dislike about them is they are very plain in styling, I like flashy head units.

Alpine has lost a lot of their glamour. Since they started out in Lambos they were perceived as top of the line. Lately their quality and durability has diminished severely.
