Dan at DC calls and tells me the car is ready for pick up... He then tells me that

'Oh by the way, it gained 25whp from ported intake and.... 5th and 6th gear

feels great!!... woo hoo...:headbang:

Finally picked up the car from DC and immediately I took the car to a remote

place I always go for a brief road test.

First impression of ported intake was better throttle response and the noticeable

power gain in the top end. Dyno graph shows 10-15whp gain from 2000 to 5500

and 20-25whp gain from 5500 to 6250 so the real power gain can be felt up

north. Now it screams at upper RPM and begs to be driven at redline.

(I only have a printed one so I will scan it and post later)

Now, the 5th and 6th gears swap feedback... wow, what a difference!!!

Most of us would think the shorter 5th and 6th gear wouldn't matter because

we rarely get a chance to top out 5th and 6th gears however it didn't need

to top out at those gears to appreciate the improvement. Under

normal driving the car consistently accelerates from 1st thru 6th that it just

feels right at home. And it feels even better at accelerating 50% throttle. I

never knew the viper with closer gear ratios would make a such difference

and offer a much better driving experience. Oh yeah, when it's driven hard

at top end.... the car now just keeps pulling hard. Before it felt more like I

had a 30mph head wind soon after I put in 5th gear but now it feels like I

have 30mph tail wind.

IMHO, it still feels little too tall for my taste and I think the fix can be made with

3.55 rear gear. Many have said Dodge didn't put these gears in the vipers so

that we can get 20mpg on the freeway and save money on the gas guzzler tax

but it puzzles me why they didn't offer this as an option?? Anyways, I'm not here to

rant but to tell everyone that this is a great upgrade who seeks true performance

what viper is capable of.

Lastly, I want to thank Dan at DC for his expertise and taking time to make

this happened. Great Job DC!!!

Now, if I don't sell the car soon... 1 mile event, here I come... :headbang:

Sounds awesome, congrats! Can someone explain to me how, if at all possible, you can increase HP from changing gear ratios?

I've got teh 3.55's in my snake, would I benefit from a 5th/6th gear swap?

Sorry for the thread hijack and feel free to delete or have me move it...

I think he means he got 25 hp from this round of mods - not the gears. Doing the shorter 5th and 6th along with 3.55s gives the Viper the gearing it SHOULD have come with (like the ZR-1 has), i.e. nice even steps all the way to 200 mph. In a standing mile race I would think the shorter 5th would be a huge advantage.

No, changing gear ratios won't increase the power. 25whp gain was from the ported intake manifold.

Great report!

Your feeling on the intake and your dyno results are exactly the same as my 2008 feels with the ported intake.

When the Dealer swapped out my intake for the ported one I specifically asked them to let me know if there was any oil in the intake--he said no, none. I suspect that my driving style is just not aggressive enough to put oil in this location. So, I am waiting now on the catch-can mod.

I am exploring the 5th and 6th gear mods though!
