Hello everyone my name is mike, I’m 21 and I’m in the navy here in San Diego. I recently bought a viper after returning from the Middle East. Here is the story of how I came to have this 2002 GTS and the problems I have run into.

Well it all first started on deployment when I wanted to surprise my "ex" fiancé with a 06 Z06 after I found out that she was less then faithful I started looking for a car of my own. That is when I found a GTS in Lubbock TX for 30k. I thought what a deal and made plans to go pick it up 4 days after being back. Once I picked up the car I started my way back and roughly half way into Arizona she developed a rod notch! I thought great I don’t have the money to replace a whole engine! Well I take her to the dealership and ask how much the damage is and to my surprise... Its cover under warranty!!! Wow how lucky I’m I right? Well 3 month later I get her back and take her to work at the end of the day I go to start her.... nothing the start goes bad. Well the dealership covers that to. A week later I get her back again and have her for about 3 weeks when I’m taking a buddy for a highway pull when the car starts grinding going into 5th and popping out of 5th. At this point I’m ready to run this car into a wall but once again dodge comes through and covers a new transmission free of charge!!! So though all the headaches and frustration I still love the car and I’m so happy I can say I am one of the few viper owners

Sorry to hear about your relationship and car problems. I wish my trans was covered under warranty. I had a few problems pop up on mine and I got those worked out for time being... I want to really refresh a lot of the car. Already did some paint refreshing lol.

Welcome to the Viper Nation! Congrats on the car as well!

You are onbe lucky guy with the warranty! I might suggest prior to warranty expiration, you have someone check the car over to make sure there is nothing else that is close to breaking! ;)

Thanks as well for serving the country! :hail:

Well consider yourself lucky, not only you own the fastest color, you also own a complete new one by now...

Do I understand it right that you have a complete new engine and gearbox?!?!?

So the record states, it was NOT me this time! I was trying to be soooo good and not mention the color thing. Did not want to corrupt a new member so quickly... :rolaugh:

Welcome to here.

Sorry about your troubles... rather unusual for the GTS..or any Viper. How many miles on your Viper? High mileage?

Interesting on the warranty. My 01 GTS had the 7/70 factory powertrain but it was just for the original purchaser. Not the extended MaxCare that is transferrable. Found out when my water pump went out at 14k miles in 2006. Bill Pemberton clarified all this for me at the time. Was your warrantee the Chrysler MaxCare one??

Welcome! I'm in the same boat (pun intended)! I just picked up my first Viper, a 2001 GTS/ACR, and am starting my drive from picking it up in Central California to home in Arizona. Hope all goes well. It's been running awesome, and minus a loose positive battery cable that gave me a problem yesterday, all seems well. Running right between 185-210 degrees between highway and city, so all seems well there. Slapped on new BFG KDW's yesterday, and we're heading out today.

Best of luck to you, bro. I spent a lot of years stationed in and around SD while in the Corps.

s/f,
Pete
