Grease on inside of wheels?

I noticed a buildup of grease on the inside of the rear wheels on my 2006 coupe. It looks like it could be from the ball joints or axles (like if the CV boot was torn). I initially noticed it, completely cleaned the wheels, and now its back again. I visually inspected the CV boots and the ball joints and I dont see any sign of leaking grease or broken seals. Yet, there is no question its getting on the wheels from somewhere. I primarily use this car for autocross and track days, but I do drive it on the street as well.

Has anybody experienced this?

Could be all of the above.

I've had a CV boot leak which put grease onto one rear wheel.

I've also added too much grease to my rear ball joints (my mistake) and had it seep out onto the rear wheels, so be careful adding grease.

Shock oil is a bit different than the other two "greases" but will collect dirt and make a mess over a short time.

Sure it isn't the "2006 leaking shock syndrome" ???

I'm confident it is not from the shocks, I just installed a set of Moton shocks and they are still really new.

This is sure what it seems like to me. I just cant seem to find any visable rips, tears, etc.

did you check the wheel bearings?

No, I have not, but this could certainly be it! Thanks for all the suggestions - I love this forum.

Dan, I've had all my ball joints seep a bit of grease, probably from an overzealous grease job at some point. I'd just keep an eye out for rips or tears in any boots, and perhaps do the lube maintenance more aggressively than usual if the car is driven hard.

Thanks Jason - I hope the autocrossing is going great! I should have let you know I was at Buttonwillow last weekend. Sorry about that...
