I have been considering a 2003 Novi car and it has 30k miles with 20k on the blower. Owner claims no issues. Says it runs perfect. I have heard here and the alley that they need to be rebuilt because of a seal every 10k miles.

Is this true??

Who here has had experience with this???

Thanks

No. It should not be true assuming a stock kit and proper maintainence of the vehicle. I have 18,000 trouble free miles on mine and I believe there are a number of people on this forum who have more than 25,000 miles on the supercharger. But, just to be safe, before proceeding further with your purchase, I recommend that you take the car over to Larry Macedo, who is located in the Orlando area and is a well known Viper tuner and let him inspect it. It would be money well spent.

It bothers me that people post the same question on multiple forums. :rolaugh:

I'm not sure who gave the idea that a paxton needs to be rebuilt every 10k miles. The smartest thing to do would be to call Paxton and ask them rather than speculating. They will give you the MTBF (mean time between failure) figure and you can go on with your life.

On the other hand, how many people can claim that they bought a used forced-induction vehicle and had thousands of thousands of trouble-free miles? Not many unless they kept the boost super-conservative.

Ditto Phil, but I will give you free advise. To rebuild a paxton you are looking at about $500 and about 2-3 weeks done time. Take if off yourself and ship it to them. No big deal.

I bet if we did a search on every post that you have posted on this site that 99% of them you are asking about a car or trying to sell a car. You do not add anything to this site. :dunno:

Thanks for the technical input.

And yes I do have the nicest vipers in the country when I put one for sale.

The car I am asking about is going to be for me personally and I wish I could show it to you but I dont want anyone beating me to it!!

Don't listen to this guy. He is a qualified Viper tech with many years of experience under his belt. He could rebuild an engine blindfolded.

Paxton charges $420 for new seals. Takes 2 weeks. I personally would send it to someone else for seals. Call Doug Levin for the definitive answer. You can test the blower to determine if seals are bad. Crimp oil return line at the pan (maybe by using hose clamping pliers that you can buy at Sears or any auto store), disconnect oil feed line and attach vacuum pump to blower inlet. Pump up to 4 lbs and see if it holds vacuum. If it does the seals are good, if not new seals are needed. If seals are bad there will probably also be a bunch of oil near the blowoff valve. Located on drivers side under the intercooler tank.

I have 43K miles (55K Total) on my Paxton with no issues. But, a lot of those are highway miles with limited "spirited" driving. I change oil every 3K miles and just replaced the S/C belt. Once the belt was changed the stock Paxton pulley produced almost 10 lbs of boost.

Guess I got one of the better ones. Also highly recommend Larry Macedo. He's done some good work for me.

Gbatejan is right from what I'm told. The paxton SC doesn't have to be rebuilt but new seals are a good idea. I'm told they can last anywhere from 10k to 30k miles.

I'm going to have mine checked out this winter to be safe.
