So I'm cruising back from Red Eye's dock bar yesterday doing the typical 70ish mph with my buddy in his 2001 GTS in tow when I see a cop shooting radar at the side of the road. I roll off and hit the brakes....too late, he starts to pull out. He gets behind me and pulls me over. I immediatley pull mu DL and Reg and put my hands on the top of the steering wheel where he can see him, giving him as much courtesy as possible.

Cop: License and registration
Me: Here ya go officer
Cop: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Me: I have an idea (with a smile on my face)
Cop: Do you know what the speed limit is on this road?
Me: 65???? (with a smile and laugh)

Cop: 55. I clocked you at 77. However that's not why I pulled you over. I wanted a better look at your Viper. This car is sweet!!

Me: Thanks I apperciate that!!

Cop: I'm gonna make sure you don't have any outstanding warrants, if you don't, I'm gonna turn you loose as long as you promise to keep it under 90mph.

Me: I'll do my best. (laughing)

When he came back we chatted for around 5 min about the car and what work I had done to it. How the Viper is one of his favorite cars. And get this, as he's going back to his car he tells me, "go ahead and give it a lttle gas when you leave...nothing crazy though!!!"

How cool is that!!!!!!:D :D :D

Nice to hear a good story. There are definitely cool cops out there, but ufortunately there are a lot of little ******* who were bullied in high school and feel the need to use their "authority" as well. It's those guys who give all cops a bad rap.

Explaining Viper things to you
Any cop that pulls you over to check out your car is an ass. I'd rather get a ticket and walk away a man. I've had that happen before and the feeling is the same when you see the lights in your mirror. Cops do not have a right to be your friend because they have a gun and a badge and a car with blue lights.

As I've told before, same thing happened to us in Alabama. Montgomery county--Lt to me to "mash it" when leaving. Good guy, no ticket, just a stop for checking us out because another driver called in stating we were going 135 MPH. NOT

PSSSST davey--he HAD probable cause--over the limit, but didn't write him--good deal.

I call that "cutting off your nose to spite your face".

He had me dead to rights, 22mph over the posted limit and didn't write me because he liked my car and i was courteous to him. I got ZERO problem with that. Now I'm quite sure if I acted disrespectful toward him I could of talked my way into a ticket and higher insurance and all that good stuff, but I'm really not into that. :D

Davey, shouldn't your reply have read "BANDI?" Try to keep up, shall I type slower? hahahaha

Aries, that's a good attitude, be a lil humble to the lil people and go on your way with no ticket.

Back when I was a cop--long long time ago, I too would pull over people to oggle their cars. Never a problem, a few compliments and let em go.

I had a hot rod 67 Vette coupe which I would race the guys in town, but tell em when I was on the job, it's a no no. AHHHHH those were the days.

PSSSST bambie--the cop was an ass.

Ok let's replay this ordeal but with Dave666 being pulled over:

Cop: License and registration
Dave6666: Here ya go officer
Cop: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Dave6666: No
Cop: Do you know what the speed limit is on this road?
Dave6666: 65

Cop: 55. I clocked you at 77. However that's not why I pulled you over. I wanted a better look at your Viper. This car is sweet!!

Dave6666: Are you kidding me? You know just because you have that badge and gun doesn't give you the right to pull me over whenever you please!!!!!!

Cop: I'll be right back sir. (10 minutes later) He're ya go sir, here's your ticket for 77mph in a 55mph, and another for reckless driving. Also, I'm going to ask you to step out of the vehicle and place your hands behind your back. (in MD anything 20mph or over is reckless driving and is an arrestable offense). I have a tow truck coming to impound your car. I'm sure the tow truck driver will be really careful not to damage the front end of your car that sits only 4 inches off the ground.

So, I'm thinking my scenario is much better than getting $500 in tickets, $500 in impound fees, Insurance going up, going to jail, 8 pts on my license, having to go to court and possibly hire a lawyer, but hey, I guess I'm not a man? :D

I agree with Dave, to an extent, on this one. Seriously, it's one thing to be pulled over for allegedly committing a driving infraction but another to be pulled over and profiled by the police simply because of the type of car we drive. Viper profiling.

Dave 6666 has a very dry sense of humor. It is just possible that he was, and is, pulling your leg.

you guys are looking at this in completely the wrong way. The cop did not just see a motorist in a nice car driving by at 55 mph and then pull him over just to view the car. This police officer had significant PC to pull him over. 77 in a 55 is a ticket all day as far as Im concerned.

The cop had choices and based on the OP's pleseant disposistion and really kool car the Police officer decided to just give him a verbal warning. belieave it or not a verbal warning from the officers perspective is really no differant than a ticket. Weather it'sa money ticket or verbal warning as long as the officer has gotten through the motorist head that he needs to slow down signal ect. Then the cops job has been done successfully..

If the OP had an bad attitude then obviously the police officer just talking to him might not be enough..And $$$ may have beeen needed to make a point..

I think you just ran into a kool cop like you stated...

As far as towDog talkjing about cops being lil bi***es who were picked on in high school. It couldnt be any farther from the truth. At leaste half the cops Ive ever known were ALPHA males..And half the woman are butchy and more man than a lot of us on this site..

Go spend a week with a bunch of guys who can bench press 350-550 pounds and do all that mma crap ect. And the woman who will bring you cup cakes and then want to arm wrestle and then tell me how they were all picked on in high school...

Viper profiling is very real..No doubt. But so is 77 in a 55..In Hawaii thats only 8 mph away from being arrested

I just dont know about this one bro....I guess if it was like back in the 80's..maybe even early 90's...But these days you detain someone and take away their freedom of movement with no PC..Well...You never know who it is and you could be sewed. As stupid as it sounds but everyones trying to get paid these days and those blue lights are a legal detention as Im sure you are well aware...

I could never personally pull some one over just to tell them nice car. Ive been puilled over 4 times now in the past 7 weeks due to viper profiling. The last one scared the hell out of me as i was driving on a dark road and didnt even know there was a car behind me when suddenly these blue lights and siren scared the hell out of me and I actually lost control for a split second as my reflexis wondered what the hell was going on..

It's scary seeing those blue lights and I just cant do that to someone to just check out their ride..

What about when they get scared and try to pull over as quick as possible...Even I do this as I dont want the officer to give me a ticket for failure to stop or evadeing. So I just pull over as quick as possible..OHHH..Are trhose sticks and a lil pipe sticking out of the ground, Darn hope I didnt damage my car!!!!But i gotta quickly stop for this officer..

So now Ive had the hell scared out of me with the blue lights..Almost lost control..Pulled over quickly next to the woodline (a place I would never ever ever ever quickly park my viper) for this cop to walk up and ask mne how I can afford the car???????

True story..And i just cant do that to someone:dunno:

Wow *******! Re-read my post. I did NOT say all cops were that way, but quite a few are. I am friends with the Sheriff and a LOT of the deputies where I live and have hung out with them on and off the job, so you can come down off your horse now. Maybe you work in the only police department in the world where ALL the cops bench press 350 and are MMA fighters! Hahahahahaaaaaa! Whatever

You even said it yourself that "at least half the cops were Alpha males". Where does that leave the other 49%?

1/2 is a pretty big percentage. Ive worked at places that had 100 guys and maybe 5 of them worked out or played any sports. Im just saying that a good percentage of people who want to be cops are actually in pretty good shape and not the picture you painted with them being picked on ect..,

Id say 50% alpha male...25% average guys...15% fat guys (im one of them)...10% high school picked on 145 pound guys and butchy women..

I belieave that is typical

When have I said I hate cops?

Like I said, there are some cool ones out there. It's just unfortunate the ones that are complete ***** are the ones everybody remembers. I have had some run-ins with both.

I have friends and relatives that are cops. Police play an essential role in our safety and freedom. They are relatively well compensated for the most part these days but their job is otherwise pretty thankless. Their lives are on the line because they get thrust into the middle of situations that we all have the luxury of just avoiding. They have to put up with crap from all sorts of low lifes especially in the Urban areas and their actions are under constant scrutiny. I didn't always feel this way but now I have come to appreciate cops in similar fashion to our troops overseas. Ok... some cops are pricks but there is good and bad in every walk of life. My experience is that most cops just want to make a living and go home in one piece. If a cop pulls you over to look at your car or he cuts you a break both parties will benefit if you show a little appreciation.

The cops I know are all pretty average looking guys except for the one guy who benches about 450... He does like 26 reps of 235 or something crazy like that but he's probably the best of the bunch so you can't always judge a book by it's cover.

I won't mention any names but I happen to know a few police officers that are also Viper owners. Many of them VCA members also that are regular contributors to this forum.

Odd I have never been pulled over in my vipers, I have been followed or had cops pull in to the gas station or wherever I was parked to check out my car. I even had state troops pull into a reststop on my first drive home with the viper in 94 to ask me to 'gun it'.
I was however pulled over several times when I had my 68 Cadi Hearse. I had cops pull me over just so they could call it in and hear the reaction when they called in a 'hearse'. It never really bothered me though because 7-10 times it happened I was breaking the law in at least one ticketable offense. Heck I even got escorted down a emergency access road once durring a traffic jam on I-15 between Las Vegas and Primm. Most of the times I got stopped I had illegal lights on the car but never got a ticket for them because the cops thought it looked cool.

I know a great deal of cops and I would say of the few ***** cops I know its the job that has made them that way. Cops aren't jerks.... people are, in any job!
